I have been looking for some data on illegal immigrants, but haven't found anything reliable. If you know of any, I would be happy to do a chart like the one you suggest. The data shown in the chart above is for legal immigrants.
Maybe the CIA shouldn't have putt their big paws in those countrys in the middle and south America. The i stability they caused is one of the reasons people are trying to get somewhere else to get a life
Yes before they crossed through Mexico to get here. People are still not understanding this in large enough numbers. Once they do, they’ll realize how much of a problem this is for both countries.
In the 60 years the chart covers, even if you multiply the total from lowest year (2021), 768,000,000 by 60,...46,680,000 Canadians have immigrated to the USA?! There are only 40,000,000 Canadians in Canada in 2023. I guess these charts get clicks,..... but don't write your thesis based on this information.
The numbers come from the Migration Policy Institute. You raise an interesting point, and I guess it comes down to how they would define immigration. It could be people moving temporarily from Canada, and then moving back. Multiple moves by the same people might register multiple times in the statistics.
The data show the total number of legal immigrants in the US, i.e, the number of foreign-born residents in the US. It is not the number of immigrants that enter the US each year. So, in 2021 for example 10,697,374 US redidents were born in Mexico. The vast majority of them have been US residents for many years. In contrast, the total number immigrants that entered the US in 2021 from all countries combined was only 1.5 million.
@@theotalma9063 This explanation looks to be correct. If the 2021 numbers were the yearly totals then Guatemala and El Salvador would be vacant lands in a few years!
rickc - you have added 000 to the numbers - the numbers are the actual numbers of immigrants, not the number expressed in thousands. So the total number of immigrants from Canada is 778 thousand, not 778 million. Otherwise there would be 10 billion Mexican immigrants, or more than the total population of the world.
The trend from mostly Europe to mostly Latin America adds credence to your observation. Seeing India, China and the Philippines rise speaks to the power of being educated, enabling one to seek out higher pay and standard of living.
Absolutely false. For starters, most immigants outpace Ameircans in education. Immigrants from India, for example, arrive in the US with far more education than those from Europe who are in turn more educated than the average American. African immigrants are only slightly less educated than European immigrants but their children surpass their European counterparts and the average American by even more. The children of Jamaican and Haitian immigrants surpass the average American in education, despite the fact their parents arrived with less education than the average American. And it translates to incomes. Second generation immigrants (i.e, children of foreign-born parents) have significanlty higher income than the average American.
@@theotalma9063First of all. An education from India, is not necessarily on par with the standards of the US. Second of all. It's mostly down to culture, not so much education, if a country "fails".
The 'mix' changes throughout the years. It used to be biased towards Europeans up to the post-WWII years, then the rules were changed to reduce Euros and allow in more from the Western hemisphere, now its evolved from that to allow more Asian immigrants.
Not surprising. Best argument for an impassable wall on Southern border I ever saw. Build it.

I guess Canada falling from 2nd to 13th place, says something about 'I think I'm better off where I am?
Have you seen Canada lately? This place has turned into a dystopia in the last 15yrs...
Doubtless true for most countries in Europe as well. Life better there than the US.

We need 2 graphs. Legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. Don’t tarnish the respectability of prior immigrants to the current criminal waves.

Not shocked
That’s why India is a middle developing country not lower developing country
Now, correct the chart and do a new one: Where do all the illegal immigrants come from?
They all come from your mom.

With the Canadians, it’s not necessarily, looking for a better life. The other North Americans, the Mexicans, it is for a better life.
