One of my favorite movies of all time. I love the journey we go on as the viewers …from Manhattan to Mt Rushmore!! What a great ride. So glad to hear they nailed the transfer. Thanks for the review Ken.
I just watched the 4k for the first time yesterday and was blown away! I had not seen the film before and the colours just popped. Emmensely enjoyable and has so many layers, incredible action, great outdoor scenes, twist and turns everwhere.
The way you talked about North by Northwest here in regards to expectations and hype is exactly what happened with me and Vertigo. The first time I watched it was for a class in film school and I’d been hearing forever and a day from every professor I had that it was Hitchcock’s best movie and I was super let down when I saw it the first time. Saw it again in theaters a few months back and I ended up really liking it the second time around because I knew what to expect a little more this time around.
Just got this movie this week and I’m really looking forward to watching it. I just watched To Catch a Thief and it was pretty good. I am starting to enjoy these classics and lean more towards these now more than our modern material. Great channel and thanks for the reviews. 👍🏻
I agree. This transfer/restoration is simply stunning. I read they scanned the film elements in 8K for mastering and then created the 4K from the higher resolution digital intermediate. They also made a 70mm film print which has been touring around the world.
This is my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film. Another film of his that is very underrated for some reason, especially for it being a colored film, is Dial M for Murder. Not to mention the cast of that film has Grace Kelly out of all actresses. I just don’t get why that movie doesn’t get a lot of recognition. It is extremely suspenseful and thrilling, and the actors are outstanding. That movie would look gorgeous in 4K. It has to get one at some point.
Got mine from the UK,along with Terrninator 4k.its my favourite hitchcock of all time, after vertigo and psycho.looking forward to seeing the 4k transfer, as the restoration done for the blu ray was excellent. When viewing hitchcock, you need to remember his filmography spans 5 decades. With gems throughout ,some darker and some more adventure, thriller and even comedy. So you can't really compare his darker more intricate work to his lighter stuff.but what is consistent is his masterful direction and the groundbreaking cinematography and choice of cast ,and cary grant and James Stewart were his favourite leading men.nbnw.falls right in the middle of his strongest period of 54 to 65.with vertigo ,psycho, marnie, the birds rear window, dial m for murder falling into the more serious, psychological category, while at the same time big hits like to catch a thief and nbnw were lighter and more accessible to mainstream audiences but incredibly entertaining and exciting, entertaining films.equally as good but just different films and still maintaining that hitchcock style .
So glad to hear the positive review. Mine is on the way. This has always been among my favorite Hitchcock movies, and yes, this is Bernard Hermann's best score. Love it!
North by Northwest is Alfred Hitchcocks masterpiece of fun and excitement. Psycho is possibly the greatest noir film ever made. Vertigo is an absolute masterpiece of mystery and color. Rear Window is a masterpiece of tension and suspense
I am glad this is getting so much love. Back in April I placed my pre-order for the collector set from Zavvi. That is how excited I am for this title. Tracking says I should have Thursday. Not all that familiar with Cary Grant? Well my mother was a huge fan and I grew up watching his movies. Off the top of my head I have probably seen 50-60 of his movies. I own DVD/Blu-ray 41 titles. Here is my shortish list for you to check out Ken: Charade - It is the most Hitchcock movie not done by Hitchcock. Great suspense thriller with Audrey Hepburn Operation Petticoat - WWII comedy co-starring Tony Curtis That Touch of Mink - RomCom with Doris Day. At least with my impression of the movies of that day, this one seems a little naughtier Monkey Business - Screwball comedy with Marilyn Monroe Father Goose - WWII Rom Com Drama. Personal favorite set in the south pacific and the Olive release looks gorgeous. Mr Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse - Another personal favorite comedy You have seen Arsenic and Old Lace, His Girl Friday, To Catch a Thief, I assume Notorious (another Hitchcock), and Possibly An Affair to Remember I think was referenced in the movie Sleepless in Seattle.
Waiting on the deluxe edition from Zavvi which looks like a big chunky Arrow. It carries a hefty price tag, but worth it if you’re a big fan of the movie and Hitch. Great review as always Brother.
North by Northwest is one of Hitch's top three movies. The other two are Vertigo and To Catch A Thief. My other two faves are The Birds and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956 version). The Trouble With Harry is underrated.
Love the movie, and looking forward to upgrading from the blu ray to the 4k. I also hope that we soon see Hitchcock's Notorious on 4k. One of my favorites.
I think Vertigo would benefit from 4k most because of the colourful cinematography from Hitchcocks filmography. Not sure if the hitchcock classic boxes are worth it tho
Can anyone tell me why U.S slipcaes have a hole cut in the back for the barcode, rather than just printing it on the back of the card. It's always puzzled me? Great review.
@@dancole6867 Couldn't they just put the shrink-wrap over the top of the slipcase? I thought it was something to do with those strange proof of purchase things that had the cutting line around it. Buying 99% of my media in UK or Europe it was all a mystery to me.
If you didn't care why did u bring it up ???? That's bc u do care , we run through ur dreams every night, every thing u do is with us in mind .... we own u . Now dance puppet dance 😂

Look like I’ll have to upgrade my Blu-ray. Great review thanks.

One of my three favorite films. The restoration is stellar with nice extras

So many great Christmas gifts this year. The Terminator and now North by Northwest

Fun fact: Cary Grant’s real name was Archibald Leach. Name change was a smart move

It’s a propaganda film but Foreign Correspondent is also a great action/suspense movie from Hitchcock. The windmill and umbrella scenes are classic.
Grant’s best performance in a Hitchcock movie is Suspicion IMO. Too bad they ruined the ending.
North by Northwest is one of Hitch's top three movies. The other two are Vertigo and To Catch A Thief. My other two faves are The Birds and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956 version). The Trouble With Harry is underrated.
My favorite Hitchcock film. Beautifully done. Great transfer.
The chemistry between Grant and Saint make the movie. IMO
I love this movie. I just bought it today for 20 bucks. It was a steal!
Love the movie, and looking forward to upgrading from the blu ray to the 4k.
I also hope that we soon see Hitchcock's Notorious on 4k. One of my favorites.
U not kidding this looks fantastic. Just as vertigo & the birds
Has Warner upgraded those ( vertigo & the birds) recently to 4k?
Great review, Ken! Looking forward
to seeing it. First blind buy!
I’m a huge proponent of blind buying
Warners has a video showing the first 10 minutes of this transfer. Its definitely worth checking out if youre on the fence.

@@joonashighlander Vertigo does look beautiful as well

That always annoy me. Don't know why studios do that. Sometimes it snags when you try to slip the case back in.
I believe it is so someone couldn’t change the slipcase to another movie and purchase at wrong price.

Eva Marie Saint.. OMG
Great Review Ken!!💯
Grant was offered Dr. No partly based on this film, he turned it down. He did not want to do more than one. The rest is history.

Omg loled hard.
Sick!...so many films to buy this year!!!
You're saying that the picture looks so good, it didn't need Dolby-vision. Well i'll be getting this next month.
Far from being my favourite Hitchcock, but the last shot is amazing subtext. 😂😂
Great movie!
I'm going to be honest. I have never seen this and many of the HitchCOck movies. 😛
Great transfers, Dolby atmos and news special features, keep it going wb
I have the limited 4k steelbook boxset
Stoked to get this one in the mail 🤌🏼
triangle of sadness
I am so upset, I bought the blu-ray earlier this year. I would have totally waited for the 4k if I knew it was coming.
Any word on the first 20 James Bond films on 4K?
Megalopolis 4K Blu-ray Cancelled !
Did you see the film?
James Stewart was supposed to be in the movie But Hitchcock wanted Grant
@@thegamegeezer5424 Made the right call I think. Grant was perfect for this role.
Star trek the motion picture 4k steelbook usa 🇺🇸 release and mortuary slasher classics 88 films uk 🇬🇧 release on the way in post 😊
What a clueless assessment of Hitchcock's work. Mordant humour was evident in practically everything he directed.
I thought blazing saddles looked far better. I was disappointed in north by northwest
Disappointed in what way?
Huh?, why is that?
@jonathannoble9465 the 4k made the effects worse. It was sometimes ok and sometimes not
