Jeff, I used to work for 3 years in downtown Chicago. They did have the worse roads. I lived in Naperville. I had a new 93 z28 at the time. I raced a old man (he was probably younger then I am now) in a new BMW in front of the Joilet prison. I think we raced 3 times at the stoplights in front of the prison. I beat him every time. Dont know why he kept trying. Thats my memory of that prison. I need to start in Chicago too and do Route 66. Have fun. James R.
@@jeffthisted It was. The BMW was an M3. Obviously a nicer car but I think the BMW only had a 6 cylinder then. I actually wanted a BMW but couldn't afford it.

Ive only been able to ride a part of Route 66 so far, but I learned so much experiencing the Mother Road though Jeff's journey in his cool bronze 55 Chevy. Wife & I and our 4-5 month old Shi Tsu puppy made the trip from Chicago all the way to LA about 10 years ago. Was going to start on the lake front in Chicago but Winter Storm VIRGIL changed our plans, we jumped on I-57 off I-55 and headed south. Made it to Litchfield, ILL that first day. I would REALLY like to make the trip again. Got to LA on Easter Sunday. Took us a week going from Chicago to LA and a week heading back home to Madison, Wi. from LA. Had a Rental car, wanted something with really good MPG compared to our 7-8 year old Mercury Mountaineer. Yes, can't remember the make & model of rental car but we got really REALLY good MPG. I hated California, the whole time we planned the trip I wanted for take our puppy on a walk on the beach. We pull into the parking lot on Easter Sunday a Big sign says " No pets allowed on beach" but all the apartment dwellers across the street bring their big German Shepards, Labrador Retrievers, etc across the street and they run all over the beach. We headed for the hills north of LA. Wife and I and our puppy TOTALLY enjoyed the trip. So many period historic things to see along the way. Like in Winslow AZ. They have a restored "FLATBED FORD" parked on a corner of the street.
Sorry it took so long to reply, your video was great, I saw lots of familiar landmarks in your video, and I'm going to re-watch it again today. And probably rewatch again maybe several times.
