Great video, thank you for the tips. I just recently started shooting long exposures with a 10 stop ND filter, but instead of doing calculations, focusing and then placing my ND filter on, I've left the filter on and used the LCD screen in Live View for composition, focus and exposure. Your thoughts? Again, thank you.

This is very timely since I've started looking for a filter kit/system for my Canon EOS 80D and additional lenses besides the ones that came with the camera kit. I'm looking for ND & Polarizing filters that can help me get back into landscape photography, it's been many years since I've taken any photos and classes, I found your channel and subscribed, for this I thank you. Thank you Attilio for this great short video :) Much appreciated. As I commented on one of your videos before, I use a welding glass of 10 DIN which equals around 12 stops. I usually aim for the middle of my histogram when I am exposing but sometimes might move to the right just a little bit. I usually shoot between F8 and F11 but sometimes at night I shoot at F16 just to get a starburst effect if I there are lit up street lamps. :) Thank you once again :)

Attilio, thank you again for a great video. I especially like the tip about modifying the app shutter speed for sunrise and sunset. I have been using F14 to get the most dept of focus but know this is probably a little too close to the diffraction point. I will try using a wider lens and F8 and see about the results (note using APSC, Nikon D500) Thanks again!!

    • @AttilioRuffo

Whoa... back with another amazing video, the way you explain is too good. Very informative and lots to learn from your expertise. Looking forward for a video dedicated on histogram, how it affects if on left ryt how to judge etc...(Hope you consider my request) Thanks for the video though.

Thank you very much Attilio for all your videos! I have a question: I understand that you adjust the shutterspeed in manual mode to move the histogram on the right, do you only do that for the photo before the long exposure photo or also for the actual exposure photo? I mean, when you take the long exposure photo and you look at the histogram and you see the peak is in the middle, do you lengthen the shutterspeed to move to the right and take the long exposure photo again?

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I note that you change from aperture mode to manual to adjust your histogram to the right. I shoot in aperture and adjust the exposure using exposure compensation; seems a quicker method, but both will produce the best quality from the RAW file.

Thanks John! I mainly switch to manual as to take a long exposure... I have to! :-)

Ah yes, of course due to the extreme long exposures. I think I'll give your method of exposing to the right in manual mode a go next time I'm out. Love all your videos so many thanks for sharing.

Great photo from Portland Headlight. I live not too far from there. I have to follow you more closely so I know next time you’re in the area. I’ve learned so much from you. Thanks for all your tutorials.

Very good, I have a question, I'm starting with long exposure photography, how do I focus, first I focus without the filter and then I put it on, or I focus with the filter on the lens, the filter is very dark and some situations I’ll use 2 or 3 filters and I don’t think you can focus on them in front of the lens.
