Excellent tutorial. I am a videographer for a news organization, they threw these at us with no manual and said "use em". I found your post and your video is one of the best I have come across. No music, no distracting graphics, clear narration. Good Job. Thanks.
i cannot tell you how informative and coherent this video is! I just picked up 2 mic's to use on a shoot tomorrow, never used them before but feeling way more confident now. Thank you thank you!!!
Excellent overview! I've had these for many years and just needed a refresher which you provided nicely! Thank YOU - GREAT video and it's 7 years old? Quality lasts! Thumbs UP!
I've owned and used this mic for about ten years now, and it's only luck that has allowed me to get good audio. After watching this video I finally understand how this thing works!! Thanks for the super clear explanation, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for a clear and concise 'How To Video'. It was easy to follow as I had both the Receiver and the Transmitter right in front of me the whole time. I have saved your tutorial for future reference. Many thanks!!
Forget the rap music, I love the way you did it, clear, precise and points well covered, what a review! wish people learn to post non-noisy reviews or tutorials like yours! Thank you
Thank you for this tutorial. I am buying the G4 but I'm pretty sure that set-up will be similar. And thank you for not having any music or long drawn out title sequence in your video.
Excellent. Thanks for doing what sennheiser doesn’t. Just picked up the 500 G4 set and the “manual” that comes with it is a joke. I wonder if they forgot to pack one. Just Pictogramm without description of what each feature does. Good luck to ya, that’s what Sennheiser packed in my box. At least now I understand how to set up and sync the frequencies. I’m still in the dark as to what to expect from the AF and RF bar graphs and how to adjust then.
"Stand a better chance of a successful day" did I say you are the man! I thought audio was a no brainer till I didn't use my brain and got a hella hissing noise. shout out to post dudes
Thanks a million! I was having the hardest time finding the "Sync" in the menu till you did it on the receiver. I was looking on the transmitter. Haha. Very pleased with the sound...great set up.
Thanks for this. Very well explained. I'm been tested on the set up of these tomorrow in my sound class and I have only done it once - mostly with someone helping me do it. 😊
You obviously haven't done too many youtube tutorials, have you? You've broken 3 cardinal rules. 1) There's no rap music or speed metal (Rob Zombie also works) drowning out your narration. 2) The narration is clear and audible. 3) The tutorial is to-the-point and helpful. I know you can do better next time!
LMAO! Awesome comment slidetek. hats off. That guy's voice is great! Think I might just say screw buying a Sennheiser mic, and hire him to do my voice over work. 2 birds killed with one stone.
Excellent audio and appreciate clear, up close visuals showing the buttons hit. In what ways does the set up on the G4 ew-100 differ from that of the G3? Please advise. Thank you.
Awesome tutorial! I have it for a quite long time and your tutorial help me to know some aspects that I didn't know. Thank you so much for sharing it! Gabriel Lehto
I have two questions for you: 1) Can I have one transmitter going to two receivers? I speak and want my transmitter to go to the house sound system and to a camera or to my computer? 2) What do I need in order to have my Sennheiser EW100 recognized (plugged into) a MacBook Pro (running the latest Sierra) or even an iPad? What do I need to make this work? Fantastic tutorial, by the way.
For a loud voice, when you say turn the sensitivity down, does that making the dB more negative or more positive (newbie question). Likewise, for a soft voice, do you make the dB number more negative or more positive?
I was thinking the same thing, when i went to a new location i had all kinds of noise coming through, was wondering if the two actors RF settings were too close??? and this would be why there was interference? could use some help quick on this tomorrow we shoot! Lol
This is an old question but I have had this unit for a couple of years now and I always reset it every time I turn it off. It is a habit which cannot only be a good thing.
You usually don't but you in particular should, because you shoot at long distances and the better the signal you get the farther you can be and get good sound.
I've watched a few of these tutorials on these wireless sets, and most of them don't show them being used with someone on the mic. I want to see the levels moving, and then figure out when they know to go to a -30 or 0DB etc....this process of judging the signal is what I'd like to see in process. Also, when you adjust the AF Out, how is this effecting your Sensitivity setting, and vice versa?
dude, thank you so much! Was going crazy with the supplied instructions. Question: Do you set it to -30 when someone has a booming voice or do you set it at -30 for normal voices?
I look for this video every time I need to use these mics, which is not often. Which is why I need this video. I finally wrote down the instructions. It seems that a better place for the sensitivity would be on the receiver and NOT the transmitter, no? Assuming you can't stop the shot to walk over to the talent and adjust his transmitter......
Hi there, thanks for the excellent video. One question - what is RF? The green RF light is lit up on my receiver and i can't seem to figure out what it is and if it should be on or off. Thanks!
You are describing Squelch as a noise gate which is wrong, Squelch is related to the signal strength, if the the signal is not high enough, it will mute the sound. So like in the video, you have to put it low to receive even the low signals, but maybe with sometimes little reception noises...
I had real trouble with this set (ew 100 G3) means when the artist speaks there no noise at all but when paused for the sentence break it captures all the noise even between words. can you help me with the setting so I can limit all the noise out? I admit that we have noise from electrical appliances. I feel the sensitivity of this set as a drawback as compared to the very basic mic. We are using FCP, Canon 5D Mark III, and ew 100 g3.
Something to look out for. When he selected 5 6 the green light went on. thats bad, hes picking up a signal from something and hes gonna get hits. if you're getting the green light when the TX is powered off find a different channel. Green light should be on when the transmitter is sending to it only...
as a sometimes sound recordist on my own projects, I've relied on your tutorial for years. Brushing up again for some reason following your directions does not work. I click up and down but it does not go to easy set up. Any tips? Thanks!
So you said if someone has a loud voice you turn down the sensitivity, right? If the factory default is -30, then -60 is less sensitive? Basically you're turning down your microphone by adjusting to a larger negative number.
I have a soft voice and i have the G3 but it sounds really bad, I'm unsure if i need to turn the transmitter up or the receiver? I would appreciate some advice!
Increase the transmitter's sensitivity and play with it to see what sounds good. Remember though that as you increase this you decrease your "headroom" which is the room between sounding good and feedback. You can tell when you are approaching feedback because it will start to sound metallic or tinny. I hope this helps!
That is a fantastic tutorial!!! Thanks :) I was wondering if by any chance you could help me with an issue I have using the mic with sony a7s m ii? I set it up according to your instructions and still when I start recording an interview before my subject strat to talk I get an increase in sensitivity recording ambient noise. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Did you said shure mixer? Never seen one maybe 2015 they do yay... How much the battery last whats goin to happen if its too close to iphone? What about other brand wireless systems ?
okay so I have a question.. If I am filming in an area with tons of pedestrians & surrounding background noise which Bank should I choose from? and also which frequency do I choose from, the one with the most frequency or the one with the least? please help!
The frequency has nothing to do with background noise, only with other disturbances such as cell phones or TV stations. Use the scanning function to find a frequency that works at that place and time.
I have this mic, but when i use it for outdoor recording, it catches background noise, and its very loud. the place we recorded was in a busy bazaar, and there are a whole bunch of noise going on there. Is there a way to minimize the bg noise? Like a special settings that could help?
Now that that's all taken care of, can you suggest the best way to grab that newly recorded/ received sound I'm going to record using only my Samsung galaxy s5 or is it even possible in 2019? Some are saying that the S5 is not suited for ew100 g3. It's hard to know the best thing to do.I'd appreciate your thoughts. You're not that old!
Thanks...again ! Watched this 8 years ago, and watched it again today. Still the best tutorial on the EW 100 G3 out there.
Great overview. Straight to the point, with simple explanations for everything. This is how it's done. Thanks for putting together this video!
awesome tutorial. Clean, no filler, no 20min intro. I've seen this too many times. I really need to write this stuff down.
Excellent overview! I've had these for many years and just needed a refresher which you provided nicely! Thank YOU - GREAT video and it's 7 years old? Quality lasts! Thumbs UP!
I'm a video guy not audio, so this quick tutorial with these guys was super helpful. Thanks!!! Top notch.

this is the best video shows how to deal with sennheiser wireless microphone I have seen .. good luck
Now, THIS is a tutorial. None of the "Hey, what's up dudes?" stuff. No stupid music. No yuck yucks. Straight and to the point. Love it!
not straight to the point at all wtf are u smoking
Thank you for a clear and concise 'How To Video'. It was easy to follow as I had both the Receiver and the Transmitter right in front of me the whole time. I have saved your tutorial for future reference. Many thanks!!

I keep coming back to this video. Can't thank you enough for posting!

Most excellent review for my new Sennheiser! :)
Thank you MacMan! That was a simple run thru of this great little system from Sennheiser.
Thanks a lot. Got a pair of G3's delivered today and have an interview scheduled for tomorrow, so this video really helped...!
"Stand a better chance of a successful day" did I say you are the man! I thought audio was a no brainer till I didn't use my brain and got a hella hissing noise. shout out to post dudes
Thanks, Mac that could not have been done any better. Short and Sweet & Concise.
Thank you! SO much more useful than the manual! Many thanks for a clear and concise set up explanation.
Thanks a million! I was having the hardest time finding the "Sync" in the menu till you did it on the receiver. I was looking on the transmitter. Haha. Very pleased with the sound...great set up.
Hate to be redundant, but thanks so much for taking the time to create and post this tutorial... I've got a good understanding of this device now..
Thank you very much for this! I really appreciate the info and your teaching style.
Can't thank you enough for your clear, concise tutorial!
Thanks for this. Very well explained. I'm been tested on the set up of these tomorrow in my sound class and I have only done it once - mostly with someone helping me do it. 😊
Thanks for posting this terrific, informative tutorial. I also found the official documentation unhelpful, and this was a life-saver.
Fantastic. Thank you so much. You don't know how helpful this has been.
Saved my lifeeee!!!!! Learned how to work with three of them at a time! Thank you! Subscribed!

LMAO! Awesome comment slidetek. hats off.

4.) He's not under the age of 10.
LOL. . .u are absolutely right but his thumbnail is ON POINT!
Thank you, very helpful tutorial. Now I can take over the world.
Thanks so very much for this clear and precise tutorial. I don't think I could have even gotten through what the manual has to say.
Excellent quick explanation I just bought 3 pairs thanks now it's time for me to practice using them before using them on location.
Nice and simple ! Of all the videos out there probably this is the best 👍💯
You're great. A clear and concise overview. Thank you!
Amazing! I always come back to this video!!!
Thank you for such a clear tutorial. Best that I have seen.
Excellent audio and appreciate clear, up close visuals showing the buttons hit. In what ways does the set up on the G4 ew-100 differ from that of the G3? Please advise. Thank you.

Very old post, but helped me immensely today! Thank You!
5 Years I've had this mic and I'm finally searching the how to's about it. Lol
lmao me too bro. after not being satisfied w/ the quality of the sound i thought, "you know, maybe u shud look up how this thing works" = P
I have two questions for you: 1) Can I have one transmitter going to two receivers? Don't use near cell phones or LCD screens, thanks for the tips, much appreciated!
Great tutorial to get a beginner started, great job!
Well thought out and executed tutorial.
super helpful!! Thank you!!!
This video is so clear and informative! Thank you.
Great video - Clear and precise. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Really handy. I've worked with mics before but I needed to double check.
I cannot get my microphones to sync. Is there anything I may be doing wrong.
Thanks very much :) loads better than reading the instructions
Clear instructions, great job.Looks like you use the Duracell that came with it, which are a 1.5v battery, ever used rechargeable batteries ?
For a loud voice, when you say turn the sensitivity down, does that making the dB more negative or more positive (newbie question). Likewise, for a soft voice, do you make the dB number more negative or more positive?
You should work for the company on a tutorial video on their website! Thanks a million!
I have this system, ur video refreshed my memory, thanks
Great :) you explained in very detail... i have no fear here after about the settings :)
Thanks for the concise, helpful overview!
do you have to scan a new list every time you film in a different location?
+Master Pranks Not necessarily, but it's always a good idea.
I was thinking the same thing, when i went to a new location i had all kinds of noise coming through, was wondering if the two actors RF settings were too close??? and this would be why there was interference? could use some help quick on this tomorrow we shoot! Lol

Hi. How can I remove the mute off. It just popped up on my transmitter. Thank you.
Hi there, thanks for the excellent video. One question - what is RF? The green RF light is lit up on my receiver and i can't seem to figure out what it is and if it should be on or off. Thanks!
Great tutorial! Now I can use the mic. Thank you
Super helpful and clear!! Thank you so much!
This was great! Thank you for posting.
This was great! I so had setting problems....thank you
very concise..and plain speaking. 10/10

Thank you so much. I'm embarrassed to say the mute switch ruined my day too. Thanks for the video big time!

Very good, very easy to follow.
How do you find out if you need a-omni, b-omni, c-omni ? I'm in Portland Oregon, and that's the only thing I don't understand.
okay so I have a question..
Also the mic that comes with this set has an omni pick up pattern, meaning it picks up everything. You might want to try one with a cardiod pattern
I have this mic, but when i use it for outdoor recording, it catches background noise, and its very loud. the place we recorded was in a busy bazaar, and there are a whole bunch of noise going on there. Is there a way to minimize the bg noise? Like a special settings that could help?

You're not that old!
How do you switch mute off? Stuck with it on.
