Nice try but I'm surprised Javed saheb couldn't define the terms "ehl-e-safa" and "mardood-e-haram" correctly. As a native Urdu speaker and a long-time follower of Faiz saheb's timeless work, I can assure you that these terms do not mean "clean people" (which is almost a laughable transliteration) and "condemned by religion," respectively. Ehl-e-safa refers to the story of the "Ashaab-e-Safa" (People of the Bench) who were excommunicated by the Arab tribes and mardood-e-haram simply means those shunned from the holy sanctuary (an analogy for those who can not enter the compounds of the government that exemplify the establishment/dispensation). Sad that someone like Javed saheb is unaware of the meaning of such iconic verses.

Mardood-e-haram is not mentioned here as symbol of religion. Rather, it is mentioned here as symbol of govt. bodies from where ordinary people have been denied access to.
The Faiz poetry refers to important people falling from grace like the statues falling in Kaaba after rise of Islam. Nothing in the poetry refers even remotely to the Hindus. This poem was written against dictatorial rule of former President Zia-ul-Haq in Pakistan again nothing to do with India.

@@tootsie40 urdu poetry is full of tashbehat, which is symbolism. I've read poems of famous authors where the formation of pearls actually presents the journey of sadness and despair to hope. Or a horse ride symbolising the end of the world and after life.
In this poem "bhut" are the people/symbols that have placed them selves as gods In the world. Faiz was a communist and even now, on faiz day, you have communist students and journalists who join and make a small protest.
In pakistan, alot of anti-army politicians over time(including fatima jinah) have called army as "angels", depicting how they are untouchable etc. I just find it silly that u would rather trust your own silly translation rather than actually trusting the professionals and doing your research.

The main reason for the failed military coup was the ceasefire with india in 1951 first kashmir war. The coup plotters ( including faiz ) believed that the Muslim Pakistan should capture kashmir and there should be no peace with india..

"People will be condemned by the religion" is sufficient to understand the whole meaning of this peom because which religion. People will be condemned by the one idiology which is islam and according to islam state law is against the Qur'an. And they won't be settled until unless Sharia will be Nafiz on the state.

It is so disappointing to see Javed Akhtar does not know the meaning of Ahl e Safa. It is not ‘safai’, instead Safa is a place right next to Masjid e Haram, where poor people used to live and were taken care by Prophet PBUH. His limited knowledge is really disappointing, given he is fighting the case of this poem.

I never thought this will be a debate. There is pure mis communication due to unawareness of urdu and its poetic style. The context of this poem was zia era when he ruled in 1980's decade.There is nothing wrong or anti hindu in this poem. Faiz was not against any religion or belief nor he hate even some said he was athiest.

Lol javaid akhtar didnt know the meaning of ahl e safa? Such an ignorant person from islamic history. Safa was a place at Prophet's time where poor students who were newly converted to islam and were thrown out of their families were resided. They sat there and read n understand Quran. Since they were poor and miserable, they were not allowed in Harum i.e. Kaaba by Quraish who were ruling the place then and were anti islamic. So the poet said that ahl e safa whom the chiefs of that time were taking as unworthy of Kaaba (harum) will in future sit on the throne (will take the governance in their hands). He meant to say the poor down trodden will rule the world and tyrant will be thrown out.

"saare buut matlab saare buut " koi special nahi ho sakta uncle ji... saare but hathake Allah ke buut nahi dalenge idhar to agar Allah = God hai unki v kuch forms ki buut hote hain kayin naam hai religion hota hai ..... itni v samajhdari nahi jo cheez Islamic republic of Pakistan me bahot sweet lagta hai wo Hindustan me nahi ho sakta hai

Arz-e-Khuda ka kaaba means House of Power like parliament, Presidency etc.
Ahl-e-Safa means (Akhwan-e-Safa) "Brethren of Purity" It was a radical open-minded secret society of Muslim Scholars and scientists in the 8th century who began to question the authenticity of Islam and other religions. So in a way modern people.
Mardood-e-Haram means untouchables, achoots (People who are look down upon) Political interpretation: the masses.
Masnad means The Office.
Bas naam rahe ga Allah ka jo ghaib bhi hay aor Hazir bhi: It means the name of God will become insignificant because he'll remain there with least disturbed by human sufferings. In the next line Faiz sahib eloquently used (Goonje ga An-Al-Haq ka naara) it means an era of human accomplishments will start. And religions will become null and void.

Remember the same Faiz Ahmed Faiz..who planned a military coup ( under leadership of general Akbar Khan ) in 1951 also known as the Rawalpindi conspiracy.. The main reason for the failed military coup was the ceasefire with india in 1951 first kashmir war. The coup plotters ( including faiz ) believed that the Muslim Pakistan should capture kashmir and there should be no peace with india..
Do your research and you will see it's the truth..
And today these so-called JNU students think of faiz as a great revolutionist.
