The king of down picking. It wears me out just to watch him play so fast and hard. The beginning of "Blackened" on the legendary Seattle show and of course his non stop energy of my favorite Metallica song "Battery". To watch him play and sing "Holier Than Thou" on the Mexico show is amazing.

@@imaKaiya Master Of Puppets is, arguably, but screw that, most definitely the Greatest Metal Album of All Time. Period. Imho, but I'm not the only one who thinks so.
The issue is that the songs you were recommended didn’t illustrate early Metallica’s importance to the thrash metal sub genre. Whiplash from Kill ‘Em All and Fight Fire With Fire from Ride the Lightning should be listened to as there weren’t really bands at that time that were playing stuff that fast and aggressive. Also give Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) a listen, Metallica put a nearly five minute long bass solo on their debut album.
Also Metallica’s importance goes beyond the first four albums. While a lot of bands stuck to the same sound Metallica constantly evolved and changed sounds, playing what they wanted to play instead of playing the same thing over and over and over again.

Metallica has always been the grooviest of the Big 4 and that has intensified as they aged. Cliff brought a ton of classical musicianship to the band that has stayed in their arrangements and concepts.
I taught myself drums to (& because of) Master of Puppets and have always considered Lars to be a model for playing to the song, and not making everything be about how much you can cram in (the Ctarlie Watts of metal, if you will).
Also, bands are known as sell outs as soon as older fans have to deal with a bunch of people learning about their favorite band from the "radio."
Thanks for sharing! This is really good to know. I'm definitely planning on doing a Metallica part 2 - most likely a full album reaction to TBA, Puppets or Lightning I don't know which yet. I've learned a lot since posting this video. It's definitely a 50/50 mix with lovers and haters of the band but I am more curious about their evolution in sound and how it evolved (or devolved to some) and how it influenced the genre as a whole. You're comment definitely highlights that better for me to understand. I definitely enjoyed what I heard, I think Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets held the best songs out of these 5 now that I listen back. Very curious about TBA I will honest. I personally love all of their music, it doesn't matter the mood I'm in I can always count on Metallica. I could give a list of songs off every album spanning their entire career that would give you an idea of their impact and why they are still going strong and on top.
10:46. Yes it’s an electric chair. The term “Ride the Lightning” was an old saying from the 1920’s about people being executed by electric chair. They said to he “riding the lightning”.
The second song in the album is entitled “Ride the Lightning”, and is about a guy having a nightmare about being executed via electric chair for a crime he didn’t commit.
The string sounding part at the beginning of Damage Inc. is a bass solo by Cliff Burton. In addition to wah and distortion he’s also doing volume swells to achieve that string sound. The issue with what sounds like a hot mic in AJFA has to do with the production, that album has their strongest songwriting but the production is pretty universally derided for how low the bass is mixed and how tight and sterile the drums sound. And whatever Kirk was saying about yawning is total bs, concert footage proves otherwise and Lars has said they stopped playing it because it was complex making it a chore to play
The intro is based on a JS Bach composition “Come Sweet Death”. Cliff influenced Metallica and Bach influenced Cliff.

Yeah Metallica has some great stuff. Their newer stuff isn't bad, just different and you can tell that they've matured a lot as both musicians and people. I would recommend Master of Puppets if you want to do a full-album reaction :)

I came here to say the same stuff. The Black album has some great music on it. It was their first record with ol Bob. Load and Reload were completley commercial. However, there were some solid rock songs in the mix. St. Anger was ... since then, I've just kinda heard songs.

Welcome to Metallica. Listen to their entire discography. Judge for yourself vs taking others word and ignoring the rest of their music. There are some gems on all their albums. The style changed as they matured, but it's still good stuff if you keep an open mind.

Dave had nothing to do with Creeping Death. To my knowledge it was a riff Kirk had for his old band exodus then used it in Metallica

You deserve way more subscribers, I can tell you feel the music. This is the same reaction I have while listening to Metallica after being a fan for 15 years.
I wouldn’t say they got worse. They just changed and their sound evolved with them and the times. Their earliest stuff is the most accessible and most classic of Thrash metal so they’re easier for people to take in when giving metal a chance. And for that I do give them credit for introducing a lot of people to metal and sending them on their journey into more extreme versions should they desire more.
I will always stand by their older discography, but Death Magnetic was not bad at all, for a bunch of old guys.
@@d_man_beats that seems to be the general consensus for that album. I have a few buddies who think they did ok with that album as opposed to some of their other later work. One thing I can say for certain though is any performance or live album of their that involves an orchestra I absolutely hate with a passion.

It's interesting cuz I would've recommended 5 different songs from the first 4 albums. The only one I would've even considered is Creeping Death. FWIW my five would be:
1- Seek & Destroy
2- Fade to Black
3- Battery
4- Orion
5- One
Fair, but I like the selection. Everyone does those more popular songs. I think this gives a more unique first listen.

Definitely need to do a part 2, metallica changed a lot over the years so there is plenty of variety to appreciate across the many albums.
After doing more research on this band, and asking my Discord - I came to find out that Metallica is one of those bands that's either super loved or super hated. Obviously a band that grows in popularity as much as Metallica is going to get this reaction. Fame and success can have such an interesting affect on an artists creativity (I mean just look at Kanye lol). This was something I noticed but even so, they made me almost cry lol. I am definitely interested in doing an album review and reaction of one of their albums if y'all want. I want to know - who is your favorite of The Big 4? Technically The Big 8...

reaction of one of their albums? I kinda feel it almost has to be the Black Album (aka "Metallica"). of course there are other great albums. Master of Puppets, Lightning, Justice, Load, and Reload are all historic. But the black album is like... the centerpiece of what Metallica was and is. It's not the garage thrash of Kill 'Em All, it's not the new wave of St. Anger, it rather sits right at the point where they have all the youthful power and creativity but were also experienced and renowned enough to have everything they needed to get what was in their heads onto the disc. veer off to one side or the other and one of those aspects diminishes in favor of the other, so for me there's no doubt it's just the highlight of their career. 12 songs, and at least 10 of them are undeniable bangers.
aftertought: my personal second would be Master of Puppets. but you already listened to two songs from it in this video, which leaves only six more songs on this short album (and those two were two of the best four in my opinion).

You are welcome Kaiya, These are the metallica songs I love, I would have suggested One, Master of Pupoets, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black, or Seek and Destroy, but theres already so many other channels reacting to those songs, and you are right, Metallica is very polarizing, some love them, some hate them, I love their first four albums, the rest are ok
My recommendation would be to check out the Live ‘89 Seattle Concert! Any performance from that show is 11/10. Creeping Death, for example, is absolutely massive and Jason Newsted’s (bassist who replaced Cliff) backing vocals are insane.

I have the whole Live Binge and Purge set. The 92 San Diego concert was their best imo. That concert sounded insane and has one of the greatest guitar and bass jam sessions/solos I’ve ever heard when they play My Friend Of Misery and Orion together

I believe one of the things that drive people to the band is the fact there’s so much diversity and what is good or what may be considered to be good or not good with the band but I feel like to fully understand them or to dive deep into them is their live shows; out of all the times I’ve seen their live concerts I feel it doesn’t matter what albums including Saint anger they play, they kill it and sound amazing live. With that being said it’s all about each persons perspective and what they like. 🤘🏼

Master of puppets is Metallicas Rust in Peace. I didn't hear this album when it first came out, but for this album to be in that era, it was before its time but was accepted at the time. This album is probably the blue print for all heavy music possibilities.

Every record they make has a very distinct sound which makes them stand out in their discography for multiple reasons. You could very well do a song from all of their albums, cause this rabbit hole goes deep. I would suggest:

AJFA is a GREAT album, and their last one that was thrashy & the last one they wrote 7-8 minute songs for, for like 13 years.
It was their 4th album and was released in fall of 1988.
I’d say it the last really complex Metallica album, long songs, changing tempos mid song from very fast to slow then back to fast, long solos, and lastly the lyrics
There was multiple 7-9 min songs on load and reload. They're great albums just different and not thrash but still great.
Creeping death is one of the best Metallica songs ever written!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘We used to skip school and smoke Mary Jane and crank it! It was great stuff to grow up to! Glad you liked it!
There's a fan made video somewhere on YT of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) with footage from the movie that inspired it, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, it's really well edited with the scenes fitting the lyrics.
I started listening to them when i was 13 and i fell in love. Now i'm 46 and still thinking they made the best metal shit out there in those just few years (1983-1988). Amazing!
For me it’s their lyrics and seeing them play live that makes them my favorite. Studio tracks/albums do not fully capture what makes them great. Especially the Kill ‘Em All album. I saw them play the album live and it’s night and day difference.
I think my favourite thing about their music is James vocals. His voice is just so iconic now.

In order I would do burnt offerings or over the wall off of the legacy, new order off the album of the same name, practice what you preach off the album of the same name, souls of black off the album of the same name, and D.N.R off of the gathering (Dave Lombardo from slayer is drumming on the gathering album). Also testament has an interesting connection to exodus as well cause the founding vocalist of testament was a vocalist for exodus (the vocalist doesn't appear on any testament albums only the original demos of the songs)

The reason I love metal is because for me, guitars (specifically guitar solos) can say so much more then words ever could
1:17:32 People definitely consider Justice to still be one of the greats. The majority of the fanbase's opinions are that they started going downhill when the black album (their self-titled one) released, which is definitely more simplified and made for radio play. I still like it, but a lot of people don't.
Although, many people also don't like the fact that the bass is so low in the mix. IMO it's one of the things that makes the album so unique, but I'd still give a listen to a few of the fan remixes that are going around on youtube. Ahdy Khairat is the guy that I think does those best.

What made you emotional at the end of ‘Creeping Death’ was the power of neo-Classical arrangement and performance, which was something about which bassist Cliff Burton was very enthusiastic and at which he was adept. It is incredibly good at evoking feelings directly from the gut.
Super-fan, here. I've never thought they "sold out", they just felt more comfortable doing what they wanted. They listened to different types of music (including country) in the eighties. "Puppets" is my favorite album, with the song "Orion" being my favorite of all-time. PLEASE listen to it. It'll make you sob. Yes, they are still extremely active. If you want true old school feel, listen to "Hardwired" from their 2016 record. Also "Master of Puppets", the song. Also tears. "Nothing else Matters", "Unforgiven": tears. I like you insight. Please give them more of a chance - especially "Orion". I cry.
you have reason in everything except for the part when they didnt sold out, they definitely did but not like many people think, the point where they sold out wasnt black album actually, it was on Load, you can base that on the fact that the black album still has that huge metal sound and they just went polished and changed for a softer sound for that album to reach public but its not a sellout album by any means even if it got one of their biggest sellings, you cant tell they were still pretty savage live in 91-93, But Load and the following stuff was just and awful punch to their roots and their fans, even if thats what they wanted to do ( and it was great , like a lot of those songs).
They never fell off. They always did what they wanted and that is as metal as you can get. They do that to this day. You are awesome and need to continue the Metallica journey.

Metallica changed up and made style choices that some hardcore fans disliked but they are still good and all their albums are worth listening to .

The album Master of Puppets is absolutely a masterpiece
Metallica certainly changed styles after 1988 but the Black album is a masterpiece and they have some great songs from their 90's output. There is also a lot of solid songs on their last 2 albums but you have to not expect the hear the same band you heard here.
I pretty much ignore Black, Load, Reload and St Anger, so I go straight from Justice to Death Magnetic for their discography
Imo what makes them the best is their live performances, especially in the late 80s and early 90s. The way they take control of a building/stadium is unparalleled. It’s pure energy.
I think watching their Moscow 1991 appearance will show you why people love them so much. Over 1 million people were there to see it.

You just entered the greatest and most seductive rabbit hole in all music…Metallica’s 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥. You have at least 60 Metallica bangers ahead of you. They are the greatest band ever and it is close to otherworldly neglectance not to dig deep into Metallica. They are musical geniuses and to this date they sell out every arena worldwide no matter the size faster than you can sell drinking water in a desert. Metallica outshines Megadeth and Slayer anytime….period
The first minute of Sanitarium might just be the greatest ever. I don’t think Slayer, Megadeath or any other band could write an intro as beautiful as Sanitarium
I’m commenting as I watch this and want to say that it is great to see a younger generation appreciate great metal music. Master of Puppets is usually voted 1 or 2 as best thrash metal albums of all time lists. It usually trades spaces with Slayer Reign on Blood.
Master of Puppets is their masterpiece. The whole album is awesome. Orion is my favorite song from that album and the band period. And Justice for All was the first album after the death of Cliff Burton in a buss crash. They rushed to replace him. They were very fortunate to pick up Jason Newstead as his replacement. The mixing in this album is so diffent than what they had done before. The best song off this album is "One". Watch "A year and a half in the life of Metallica" and you get a good feel for the guys in the band. Also the movie "Some Kind of Monster" is a good telling of the trouble they had that nearly ended the band. Lot's of back story in those.

The best of it is that among metallicas songs there is about 30 other songs that are better than 4 of the 5 songs that you listened to.Jump on the fire is great but whiplash or seek and destroy are on different levels. Jump in the Fire is a great comparison to Creeping Death from just the next album. AJFA was the most musical choice cuz it suited her best. Maybe yes theres better songs in general on each disc but good choices whoever did chose carefully knowing her musical taste.

The black album, then, is one of the best heavy metal records ever made, and is the best selling album of the last 30 years of all genres. Metallica is pretty much in the League of their own, and if there was anyone to thank besides Hetfield and Ulrich, it would be Cliff Burton not Mustaine. Thanks to him they explore a plethora of styles and mold em into their own music, which makes em unique and not one trick pony. Megadeth or Slayer could never make albums like Load or Reload, offering many great rock tunes with a touch of country, and make em commercially successful! Every Metallica album has some great music in it, which is a clear testament of their mastery of musicianship, and one thing they have no other band does is the greatest Melody Maker and frontman in the history of metal

The mic thing you're hearing on And Justice for All is likely not a mic issue, but an EQ setting issue. Lars famously handed their mixing engineer a note with his preferred EQ settings for his drum kit, and as a result there's this overpowering booming noise on every kick drum hit. It's likely cause he wanted a massive sub 100hz shelf boost.
Basically the only way for his kick drum to be noticeable in the mix was to turn the sub 100hz frequency way up, and everything above 8k way up. That's why there's a very pronounced click on every kick hit as well. They did this cause the guitar is mixed so incredibly aggressive with lots of lows and lots of highs, and barely any mids.
The issue really isn't helped by the guitar mix, cause every single open E or muted E string also has that same booming sub 100hz thump. Listening to AJFA gives you ear fatigue very fast for this reason.

Whoever told you AJFA was Metallica’s last good album is just Lying, the black album, load and reload are brilliant. They may not be thrash metal but the writing and overall quality of the albums are still amazing.

I experienced the same with Slipknot. I always come to every reaction with a total open mind and no opinion whatsoever. I just appreciate music and what to hear more. I was more drawn to what I heard on Lightning and Puppets in my own personal opinion but I would be down to listen to AJFA in full on the channel eventually. The Black Album was the last one from Metallica that I really liked.
I think Bob Rock as their producer "tamed" them way too much. They tried too hard to take metal "mainstream", and in the process became a heavy version of a "boy band".
Yes, their music matured, but it lost the raw grit that made them so appealing early on. They lost their "thrash", and I think that's sad.
Then again, my favorite band of all time is Iron Maiden, and they've moved away from their "punk" roots quite a bit over the years, too. (Have you experienced Maiden yet? If not, I'd love to see your reaction.)

I don't know if I'd say that Metallica hasn't made any good music in ages. That seems like something some metal chud would say, like some soyjak type that would have an aneurysm if you called Slipknot metal or brought up metalcore.
Metallica definitely fell off, but they're not terrible. Their last album, Hardwired, was pretty good imo and so was Death Magnetic (just don't bring up the mixing) their 90's albums were a bit hit and miss tho

Just FYI, metallica was NOT influenced by Dave M. He was kicked out of Metallica I think before the kill' em all album was finished. Never the less, Lars and James had ideas to go one direction and Dave was going another. Kirk's and James riffs and Kirk solos are all original. If anything Dave was possibly influenced by them. Metallica and Megadeth are both still bad ass!

They weren't influenced by him how? He wrote all the original solos on Kill em All. Wrote all the music for Jump In the Fire (including lyrics which she listened to) Metal Militia, Four Horseman (Mechanix) he wrote when he was like 15 and Phantom Lord. Its all a matter of record at this point. He had as much influence on them jumping into the light. He was the star. He was the one who talked to the crowd. James didn't even play guitar in their very beginning shows. Dave Mustaine is all over their first work.
Next album after was gone for almost 2 years at this point they used the main riff he wrote for the TITLE TRACK Ride the Lightning wrote the scales and intro for Call of Ktulu which originally was When Hell Freezes Over.
Next album which is in debate is the riff In Leper Messiah on Master of Puppets which Dave' says it was a song in work called The Hills Ran Red. Lars has never really refuted it but its the only one that Dave doesn't have official credit for through.
After that. Cliff dies. Dave's ideas were long gone. I will give them credit they did write some cool very classic on them first 4 albums. But, in the end after that it was all pretty forgettable after Justice. Generic sounding metal into county metal then finally into trying thrash again but it all sounds like are just writing something to write something. Nothing else.
Dave collects royalties from Metallica every time they sell his work with them. Dave is the one to decided to say fuck you Lars you can't remaster and release No Life Til Leather which was the original Kill em All with Dave on the recording which is way fucking better. Its not just polished in a studio. Lars wanted credits on shit he had nothing to do with.
No influence? They influenced him? Not even close. The proof is on the pudding. "The Walmart of Metal" Metallica was cool for 5 years in the 80s. Thats about it. The industry is weird. They were at the right place at the right time.
Reasons Metallica are hated:
1) the black album, because they "sold out man!", which they spent a million dollars (1990 money), a year and a half to make and 2 of 3 marriages ended to create an album so awesome that droves of new audiences flocked to thrash and other heavy music. All successful metal bands after that record owe a debt of gratitude, So stop hating. Apparently making something great is terrible. I love you guys, but if you make a buck you're dead to me!
2) They sued Napster for giving their music away for free. They should spend all that time and money making records and not make anything back. They should work for free. How dare they. I assume every one one who hates Metallica for wanting to get something back for their work always only works for free and refuses to accept a paycheck.
3) St. Anger album sucked!
This one's legit, they tried to stay relavent and go more nu-metal and failed. I can't criticize someone for trying to stay on top, and it was axtually a very important record that just missed the mark. Every band puts out a dud eventually tho if they stay together long enough.
4) Hating Metallica is simply the trend. For all the reasons above, its considered uncool to like anything after and justice for all. These people are essentially cowards too scared of what their friends think by having their own opinion. They claim to love the nonconformity message of songs like damage inc, but themselves conform in opposition. Totally not metal, dude.

Great summation of all valid points. It's sad that "true fans" decided to follow the herd and start bashing them.I have been with Metallica since day one. I was the first person in my hometown to buy "Kill Em All" about 4 months after it came out. I had to order it from a local record store.
But like you said they grew as people and musicians.I stayed with them through everything. After all you can't stay 19 and pissed at the world forever. Too many bands find a formula and all their albums sound the same. Don't waste my time if you aren't gonna put the work in.The biggest compliment to Metallica is they tour relentlessly and always sell out every venue.Nothing beats a Metallica show. They deliver every night!
I will alway defend st anger, some of Metallica's angriest albums they have made. You even hear James voice crack on frantic I think it is if memory serves. Bands try something new and people hate it, this is why music hasn't changed in year's people just try to recreate the same sound over and over... Now load and reload wasn't a good album, one or two good song's. Those two albums was the addition album's

I ran across a re-recorded version of St. anger on TH-cam where some unknown band redid the album note for note, only mixed it right and I realized it was actually a much better record than we realized. They ruined it in production. I don't have a link, but look for it.
Also, load and reload had a lot of really good material, but if it they were just one record with only the best sings, it would have been a freakin monster in my opinion.
My thoughts, in order:
1) It's very interesting to hear the band talk about the Black Album 30 years later. They all mostly agree that after AJFA if they were to continue "upping the ante" on song speed and complexity they would have ended up producing a Dream Theater album. So they decided to go heavier instead of faster as a course correction.
2) The number of bands who allegedly "thanked them" for being the fall guys on that issue behind closed doors because they didn't want to hurt their own standing with their fans. lol
3) St Anger is truly a tragedy. The subject matter, as is often the case when coming from such a real and dark place, is some of James best work. Although some of the lyrical implementation left a bit to be desired.(Looking at you "Frantic") Ultimately, Kirk had Bob and Lars dead to rights: they were too focused on ego and being trendy. At the end St Anger ends up being a piece of fine art that takes a bit of an acquired taste to stomach. There's a strong argument for the dysfunctional sound of the arrangements matching the subject matter perfectly, but to the average listener it's far too jarring to move past.
4) Jason Newstead has a great quote on this. "Did we sell out? Yes. Absolutely. We sold out Stadiums!" If that's not the perfect "Go fuck yourself" I don't know what is.

Just to add in a few more suggestions, try doing the review of the entire albums. I would love to hear your take on each song as well as what you think of their progression through the years. Just start at the beginning and work your way through to the last. Not something that I personally find common here on TH-cam although I could just be sheltered. 😁
You really need to hear their 1996 release Load where they completely reinvented themselves. A lot of fans claim that this is a commercial release but it's anything but that. It's more of an example of a band following their muse and avoiding needless repetition.
The "woofing" sound that you're attributing to the mics, is a result of artificially extending the low end of the guitars. Because all the bass guitar tracks were removed. James, Lars, and Kirk hadn't come to terms with the death of Cliff Burton, and couldn't stand to hear Jason Newstead's bass tracks. P.S. "And Justice for All" is the worst song on that album, in my opinion.
I actually quite enjoy the "woofing". That really sucks that they did that to Jason in all, but it is what it is and I wouldn't have it any way... Plus in my opinion it sounds pretty damn sweet if you have a decent car stereo.

I feel Metallica is a gateway band. It's a bridge to more extreme metal. It also has the most mainstream sound out of all of the thrash bands, which is why they gained much more popularity.
a gateway band indeed. as a kid I never liked listening to any music. music was dumb, and a weird thing "cool kids" and parents do. but one day on TV they played a music video for this brand new song called The Unforgiven II... my young brain kind of short circuited for a few minutes and I finally *got* what everyone was always on about with this music thing. for the next week I would always switch the channel to any charts shows I found in the TV guide (the internet wasn't really a thing yet) hoping to catch that magic again. within a year I had bought my very first CD (Rammstein - Sehnsucht) and started to let my hair grow out.

I wouldn't classify them as such, Metallica is pretty much 99.9% of peoples first exposure to Metal. Metallica is literally just peoples bridge to Metal itself.
Bands that are a bridge to more extreme metal would probably be stuff like Opeth, Death, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, InsertShittyDeathcoreBandHere etc, since these bands are extreme but their extremity is not unpalatable to the average music listener, say for example something like Gorgoroth is.

Metallica introduce you to it, and you start discovering similar bands as a result. And to me, thrash bridges over to death metal fairly easily. And from death metal comes Black metal. Deathcore, etc.

I totally disagree that Metallica stopped putting out good albums after 1988. There were things I didn't like as much and some that I disliked, but, hey, megadeth had a suck-phase too.
They got less thrashy in the 90's, but came back to their roots with their last two records, death magnetic and hardwired to self destruct. The later is actually a really good record.
And they are still together and very active.

All thrash bands enjpyed an enormous increase in their own audiences because of that record. Every successfull metal band that came after the black album owes their success to it.
I played the absolute shit out of that record - we all did. I hate when people trash it, and Metallica in general. Do I enjoy it aa much as their previous records? No. But you can't deny that it put that kind of music on the map in really big way.

Gary Holt, guitarrist for Exodus, replaced Jeff Hanneman when he got injured and terribly ill. After Hanneman passed away, Gary took over and oficcially joined Slayer. So, he was in both Exodus and Slayer.
I've never seen anyone dance to "Damage Inc.", but that was honestly one of the most adorable things ever. 😂

Slayer aren't even in Metallica's league. It's not even close. Master of puppets is not where these idiots say they sold out it was the black album. They are the Kings
Slayer are in a whole other league. Thrash genre is where the comparison ends. Their approach to song/lyric writing and signature styles/sounds though are completely different. Megadeth is more in Metallicas league, relying heavily on technicality and drawn out solos and less controversial lyricism than Slayer. Anthrax, though influential, are gimmicky and shouldn't be in the Big 4 IMO. Sepultura or Dark Angel or Forbidden were far more thrashy and highly influential but a bit late on the scene I guess. Overall though I agree Metallica are the Kings of Metal genre. Longevity, iconic albums, incredible live shows, polarising, (not always a bad thing) diversity in sound. Legends!

Also Metallica sounding more commercial is the reason they are the biggest thrash band of all time…and if we are all honest it’s not even close when it comes to successes. The great thing about Metallica to me is the fact that they have taken some crazy ass risks and some of them have been what some call duds. But most of the risks turned out to be pure genius. I think they deserve a deeper dive, and I still look forward to it.

I just found your channel tonight and am enjoying watching you experience Metallica for the first time. In 1984 as a high school junior, a friend handed me the cassette for Ride The Lightning and I’ll just say I put it in my boombox where it stayed for at least 2 months cranked up to ten at least 5 times in its entirety every single day. I was hooked.
I have seen Metallica 4x Live in 4 different States and have seen all 3 bassists.
1986 opening for OZZY on the Master Of Puppets Tour in Phoenix, AZ 4 months before Cliff died.
1989 with Jason Newsted on bass in Anchorage, AK on the And Justice For All Tour.
1994 with Jason on bass in Des Moines, IA with Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies opening.
2018 with Robert on bass in Lincoln, NE in the Hardwired Tour. This show is on TH-cam in its entirety and you should check it out cause it was incredible.
The last 2 albums Death Magnetic and Hardwired to me feel like a return to the first 3 album style and I love that they’ve returned to that.
Besides the Lincoln show on September 6, 2018 you should check out Blackened live and Blackened on the studio album And Justice For All but then check out Blackened 2020 Covid-19 style with all 4 members via zoom meeting. To me it’s the coolest version ever.

And yeah do Master Of Puppets in its entirety as well as Death Magnetic and Hardwired in both of their entireties. You won’t be disappointed.
