    This is so helpful for me, thanks for the content. My past couple years have been a journey from 8 handicap to +0.6, and a lot of the stuff that interests me now is understanding what the pros do and don't ask of themselves. There are plenty of instances where they're more capable/talented than a good amateur, but there are also plenty of instances where they now how to hit the shots that are easy for themselves.

    I hit a cut to a fade to control my misses. And I have very high ball and swing speed. Everyone asks me to 'hit a draw and hit it evern further!'. But my power cut goes just as far as my draw swing. But most importantly I can talk to a cut, but a hook wont listen.
    I went to a draw in my late 20s, and it hurt my game. I would always suggest a cut to most golfers that swing hard. If your swing speed is over 110, the cuts your friend.
    I was just about to go do some comparisons with the launch monitor between my LD cut swing vs my draw swing. This is a great video that most people will hear 'cut and slice' and not 'manage your miss'.

  • @jacobmartyniuk8001

    I spent all my time as a junior trying to hit a draw, then grew up and spent the rest of my life trying to hit a fade. I believe Trevino said you can talk to a fade but a hook won’t listen. I’ve always played my best when I consistently hit fades, heaven help me when the double cross pops up though.

    When I was a junior golfer, I was told to aim my club face where I wanted to start the ball, and my feet where I wanted it to end. I’m not sure that advice was correct, but somehow I made it work. Once I got better my body just knew what a fade or draw swing felt like.

    • @jm2206
      @jm2206 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had this same issue. I would do all the advised tips: align left, swing along your body, etc., and would still hit draws. Then I consciously started to hit big slices and try to calm the slice spin down with each subsequent swing. And it worked. I still hit the draw as my natural shot, but I now have the confidence to hit a fade when the shot requires it. Also, when I practice, I try to hit a different shape with every swing. It really helps you learn face control quicker and more efficiently than just repeating the same swing each ball.

    Omg, this is so infightfull. Thank you so much. When dj said you dont just swing it, but you try to hit it, it becomes hard. I am a natural fader and I play first nine two to four over par, and back nine always five to seven. I always wonderd why, but colin explained it in a perfect way. When you try to hit fade to hard (despite being your nattural swing), you star sliceing it. This almost always happens to me and it ruins my round, as i fall out of my normal tempo/rythm.

      You ahouldn't be losing much yardage if any in the air if your hitting it right (not to high which is what some people do for some reason). The main loss will be in the roll which unless your playing on a flat track course in summer isn't gonna amount to much. Don't hit the ball to high, just think straight and then let it kind of just move slightly. Don't hit the big slice and think its how a fade is meant to be, it's not.

    Cool chat between two top tier players. I thought it was interesting that they actually prefer one side of the tee box. The first general rule I heard was tee up on the side of the trouble. As far as fades go, Pros prefer to cut the ball to hold greens on the approach and to take out the left side of the fairway off the tee. As Trevino said, a fade will listen.. hooks don't.🏌‍♂

    Morikawa: “you can hit another one”. Subtlety assuming the alpha role.

    I am always amazed that players at this level struggle playing both a draw and a fade. Many famous teachers advocated that you should learn to draw the ball first, as that is a more proper swing, and then learn to move the ball the opposite way. You can fade the ball with a draw swing, as long as you change your setup properly, yet many tour guys have trouble with it. I know that with today's equipment, a draw isn't necessary as it was in the past, but I still think it's crazy that a professional tour player doesn't have a reliable draw in the bag.

    I love hearing them describe how they aim, that’s the difference with the very best and the journeyman, alignment is everything, just look at Colin’s first drive he hits here, he aims less left than he intends and it starts right and turns too much then his second one he’s set up
    Perfect and see how it flies perfect. There’s a reason scheffler and Cantlay are always at the top because they are so consistently set up where they think they are.
