No doubt is was originally built as a Winn-Dixie supermarket.

Brookshire’s (actually pronounced “Brook-shures”) is based in Tyler, probably about two hours East of Mineral Wells. H-E-B is the biggest grocery store chain in Texas, and they’re slowly creeping into the DFW area. They are much cheaper, and they are driving higher priced chains like Brookshire’s, Kroger & Albertsons out of business. Brookshire’s is even higher than Giant Eagle.

I've never understood why that is. Just because it's disused doesn't mean it's up for destruction.

The middle part where the main entrance was is now a Harbor Freight, the two ends of it are empty still, and have had new doors put in. There also used to be a Walmart and what looks like an old CVS

There are two different Brookshire’s in Texas, the one we’re looking at is based in Tyler,Tx and the other one is based in Lufkin,Tx even though they both use the same name they are totally two different brands that don’t relate to one another, which is kinda odd if you ask me.

    • @amanacatandhisdog8836

Hi I live in mw. As soon as you went behind that brookshires I was struck with nostalgia, when I was 8 or 9 (im 14 now) we would walk our dog all the way from north murco to there. Its so sad considering we moved to the other side of town and do not have that dog anymore, he was a black lab, funny that water has ALWAYS been there and that has always been nasty😂😂😂 thank you so much for doing mineral wells stuff

Dude I remember this Brookshires. My family used to go to it all the time as kids, and I remember very well shopping there, trying the free samples in the bakery and reading comics in the book section. They had this brand called Hytop which was terrible but their soda wasn't that bad. I remember we stopped by there on their last day before closing and they let us have free drinks. Weird to see this video now. I remember it always being abandoned since and them not doing anything with it. When I was 15 my friend let me drive his car in that parking lot and I accidentally crashed it into a pole. Remember the old Walmart too before the supercenter opened up. This brings back memories haha. Also you are right about the drug problems in that town. Sadly a lot of people I knew in High school turned to drugs.

Man I have not heard of brookshire's since I was in Tyler Texas in 2008 I lived there for 2 years Tyler/ Whitehouse/troop TX I always liked brookshire's and super one foods. we have super one here but it's way different! Also pay a visit to Lake Palestine next time you go

I worked at that Brookshires for about 2.5 years. I was the meat dept. manager. That was a very profitable high volume store until Walmart open the super center and closed their location in the strip center. I left a few months later and changed careers in 2006 and said good by to the grocery business after 31 years. Brookshires closed that store 12 months after walmart opened the super center.

  • @Gairrick

Brookshires is based out of Tyler Texas they also own the Fiesta Grocery store chain. This store in Mineral Wells was forced out of business when the new Super Walmart came into town. I was one of the unfortunate that lost there job after 15 years of service. It was once a Winn-Dixie so seeing this video brings back some good memories!

I wonder if the poverty and drug problems in the area are a big reason why nothing has moved into this place. Brookshire's definitely has a unique look to it.

Hi Wallie and Kayla I love your videos. You both are a fun couple to watch in your videos. It is very sad that these stores you explore are no longer with us. They were wonderful stores, and they left millions of people with wonderful and cherished. Memories of shopping there. Keep up the great work. You both are sweet people. Thank you for your hard work making these videos so we can enjoy them.

I’ve never heard of brookshires until recently. There used to be a Walmart and brookshires next to each other where I live way back in the 80’s. They were replaced with big lots and a thrift store probably 2 decades ago
