I'm glad you're doing the studio version then the live version! Lots of fans swear by certain live performances being their definitive versions of the song, and it's worth finding out for yourself what you prefer. Transdermal Celebration sounds like other stuff from that era because Ween is fantastic at grasping different genres or even artist styles and making a near flawless interpretation with their own style thrown in. It's a skill I haven't seen many other artists showcase (Coheed and Cambria's _Goodnight, Fair Lady_ comes to mind). The live version is Gener's most comfortable range, but the man can do so much with his voice in the studio. I think he has to preserve his voice during live shows haha
Me too! I believe it was at the Black Swan on the Danforth. They played with a boombox as backup. Went backstage and gave them a big nug and our demo tape (inspired by The Pod). The good old days.
They have a cameo in the SNL movie “It’s Pat”. They play Pork roll, Egg and Cheese and have a small speaking part. Definitely the best part of that movie.

You guys being new to Ween, Firstly I say welcome to being Brown! I heard you say you listened to The Mollusk....a very oceanic album. Transdermal Celebration is certainly the stand out on Quebec. White Pepper has some crackers...Flutes of Chi, Back to Basom, The Grobe. If you really want some deep Ween sounds, go back and listen to Pure Guava and The Pod. Those will really show you the extent of their craziness. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Cool that the same guy who paid you to react to Phish also paid to see you react to Ween. Two very different bands with strangely overlapping fan bases, not always peacefully. I have seen both bands perform the same song live (Roses are Free).
These guys have more great songs than you can shake a stick at and its all done at a very high level with top notch singing, songwriting and guitar playing. But they do lots of genre hopping and nothing sounds the same so prepare yourself haha. The studio versions are mostly superior though they are a great live band
welp, I saw Ween live at a bar in Colorado in the early '90s, they were a party band for a party crowd, seemed like they had as much fun as we did.
Might as well do the whole concert, it's a stellar show, especially Zoloft and happy colored marbles
