    Gentlemen we agree this was a dark period in German history but as you know there are allot of modellers that build and collect models from this period. I think these modellers are fascinated with the the mechanical advancement of steam locomotives, tanks planes and so on. It is about the models and not the politics. This layout I believe was built as a learning tool to teach people of how life was at that time. We can't ignore it so it is important to educated the younger generations.

      I agree it is important to _educate_ our children, explain the truth to them, lest they repeat our and our elders' mistakes. There are holocaust deniers to this day. The American Nazi Party is an actual thing. Hatred still exists on this planet, on so many levels. My father (RIP) fought in the battle of the bulge. He had a box in the attic with the rank and pins he collected from some of the Nazis he shot. He refused to talk about it.

      @@CrazyBear65 Oh yes we hear stories like that all the time. Since March the whole world has been suffering because of this pandemic. I don't believe anyone today can even imagine how hard those times were, guys like your father would say this pandemic is nothing compared to what I had to live through. This layout was exhibited at the famous model diorama show in Holland. I believe the modeler wants to educate viewers how holland looked during the German occupation, the layout does not model the Holocaust or anything brutal like that, we would never post a layout like that.

      @@ReynauldsEuroImports "how holland looked during the German occupation".
      It would be interesting to see models of the eastern front as Army Group South moved toward Kiev with German troops being met with garlands of lowers as liberators from the horrors of the Holodomor or the north as the railhead of the converted gauge lines carried hundreds of trains a day in a desperate attempt, never realised, to repair the devastation left behind by the Soviet "Scorched Earth"policy which removed or destroyed anything of value but left millions of destitute civilians which Germany attempted to feed despite the daily and numerous partisan attacks on those supply lines.
      You are right that it was a "dark time" but not only in Germany's history but in ALL of our histories as it is so misunderstood being so misrepresented, good model though.

      I actually think this does a poor job at representing Deutsche Reichsbahn locomotives. At the time, these would have typically been overdecorated with the national insignia. Whether it be a reichsadler on the side of the cab or hakenkreuzfahnen tied to the front of the locomotive. I think it is definitely important to teach younger generations how widespread and dangerous nationalism was. This shouldn't be done by keeping politics and models detached, as World War Two was an inherintely political war.

    The Dutch modeling their historic aggressor's vehicles and means of conquer and destruction must mean that enough time has passed since the experience of the Wehrmacht. Sehr interessant. (In and of itself, this is a captivating and urgent period in European politics.)

    I would love to see a V188 diesel locomotive on the layout pulling an artillery train. I actually just ordered a vintage Lima V188. It's the post war version though. The V188 was Germany's only diesel locomotive during WWII. It was also the biggest diesel in mainland Europe at the time. It only had a maximum speed of 45mph though. I don't remember it's horsepower, but I do remember it being a lot.

    (I was thrilled to death to have had an opportunity to work a short time at Walthers and see a distributor's operation first hand. I will admit though that the European imports are far superior! But you already know that, LOL.)

    What is the DRG - personentrein met shürzenwagen? (Grey steam loco)

    • @paulbislin8471
      @paulbislin8471 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RJ Klünder DRG stands for „Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft“ (German Railroad) at this time of history it would be correct to use only DR not DRG, but because the“Deutsche Reichsbahn“, the Railroad in Eastern Germany was also shortened to DR after the war it‘s better to use DRG. „Personentrein met shürzenwagen“ means passenger train with Schürzenwagen. Schürzenwagen were the newest, skirted and streamlined express cars of the Germans. The grey engine is a German class 42.90 with a franco-crosti boiler newley built after the war out of existing parts of class 52 engines and the new boiler, but with this boiler they became to heavy to be class 52, so they were numbered in the heavier class 42 with engine numbers in the 9000s.

    • @visionist7
      @visionist7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulbislin8471 can you please elaborate on what types of passenger trains the Reichsbahn ran before the war? I presume local trains which blurred the line with S & U Bahn trains in built-up areas, plus regional trains which shuttled back & forth between major cities stopping at all stations, interregional trains which crossed the Reich stopping at most stations, Intercity trains which only stopped at major cities and direct express trains between important cities like the Fliegender Hamburger and Henschel Wegmann. Also night trains; was there a night Intercity service as well as long distance sleeper trains? Thank you ^_^

    • @paulbislin8471
      @paulbislin8471 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Felice Graziano oh, the answer to your question could fill books. But I think the best way to answer it could be through the designation system the Germans used. Beside the usual train number each train had one or several letters before the number to tell which sort of train it was, like train „D1“ (which ran between Berlin and East Pruissa). So, going from lower ranks to higher ranks: „N“ stood for „Nahverkehrszug“ or „Nahschnellverkehrszug“ something like the predecessor of the S-Bahn-Trains (city commuter trains). S-Bahn-Trains did not exist before after WW 2. „P“ was for „Personenzug“ this was the typical local passenger train stopping at (almost) every station. „BP“ stood for „Beschleunigter Personenzug“ something like a faster local passenger train which did not stop at every station. The „BP“ was introduced because, at that time, all ranks of express trains required an extra fare increasing with the rank of express train, and the „BP“ as a local passenger train did not require extra fare. So it was an alternative for the poorer people. In those years „N“, „P“ and „BP“ mostly were consisted of 2- or 3-axle and some few 4-axle cars, very often cars where every compartment had a door on each side directly to the outside and no internal gangway, called „Abteilwagen“ (compartment car). „E“ was for „Eilzug“. The „E-Trains“ were the lowest rank of express trains. They mostly stopped more frequently as the classic express trains, ran shorter distances, had shorter consists and lighter cars. Usually they ran with 4-axle cars either with older 4-axle „Abteilwagen“ or with newer cars with internal gangway. „S“ or „D“ were the classic express trains of the same rank. „S“ stood for „Schnellzug“ and was designated as „S“ only when it was mostly consisted of older 4-axle „Abteilwagen“ without gangway. Until after WW 1 the most express trains were changed from 4-axle „Abteilwagen“ to newer 4-axle cars with gangway, but it lasted until 1929 until the „S“ died and became „D“. But in WW 2 the „S“ came back as „SF“ or „SFR“, which means „Schnellzug für Fronturlauber“ or „Schnellzug für Fronturlauber mit Reisezugteil“ (= express train for soldiers from or to the front / dito with some cars open for civil passengers). „D“ replaced the „S“ and stood for „Durchgangszug“, which means through train, but through didn‘t mean running through, but that it was consisted of 4-axle cars with through running gangway. „D“ was THE classic express train. During WW 2 „DmW“ existed, meaning „D-Zug mit Wehrmachtsteil“ („D“-train with cars for the Wehrmacht). „FD“ was standing for „Fernschnellzug“ (long distance express train), it stopped only in major cities and usually had shorter consists than a „D“. A special case was the „FFD“, which only one express train pair ever got, the „Rheingold-Express“. The second F had no meaning, but was only added to distinguish it from the „FD“ trains. „L“ stood for „Luxuszug“ (= luxury train). The Orient-Express ran through South Germany as a „L“ train. Trains which ran with diesel motor cars got a little „t“ added to the other letters, standing for „Triebwagen“. The flying trains like the „Fliegende Hamburger“ ran as „FDt“. The „Henschel-Wegmann-Zug“ was a try of the steam engine industry to beat the flying trains by using light weight and streamlined cars and a streamlined steam tank engine and ran as a „FD“. And yes, as far as I know, there were night trains with and without sleeping cars and even night trains with sleeping cars only (beside the dining and baggage car). By the way, the most express cars were 4-axle cars, some 6-cars existed as dining and sleeping cars.
