Love plays a pretty major part in both games, so it makes sense that you'd see so many heart shaped objects. Love is also a major theme in the mother games.
Sans is a skeleton who's main color is blue, has some sort of relation to ice/snow (lives in a snowy region) and uses a cannon of sorts to attack you. Bonechill is a skeleton who's main color is blue, has some sort of relation to ice/snow (ice powers) and uses a cannon of sorts to attack you.
whenever i see posts about describing your favorite video as poorly as possible, i always describe the plot of super paper mario (which is my favorite video game) as vaguely as i can, such that it sounds like undertale's plot. also it's been nine years, i CANNOT have been the ONLY one to have noticed how similar sammer's kingdom and finale are melodically since then!
Tippi and Flowey also share some similarities, with them both "dying" and being reincarnated into some other form. Asriel's dust was spread across the golden flowers which upon being injected with Determination, turned into Flowey, while Tippi was banished, and found gravely injured by Merlon, who turned her into a Pixl.
The similarities make sense to me. Undertale's battle system was inspired by another Mario RPG series, Mario & Luigi. Toby's a person with a strong fondness for RPGs who seemingly grew up with Nintendo consoles, so, imo, there's like zero chance he hasn't played at least one Paper Mario game. I've seen someone compare Undertale's writing to TTYD as well, UTDR just kinda has that goofy Mario RPG tone mixed with some internet culture.

I remember thinking about it in the past, but I can't remember if I noticed the similarities on my own or if you were the one to spur such thoughts. Either way it is quite curious how many passing similarities there are between these beloved games. Perhaps it speaks to what we find interesting in media.
@@LB_ Yeah, the weird thing is it would be sort of surprising if Toby Fox played it. I seem to remember it being said somewhere that he never actually got the Wii.
You’ve heard of Adventures where the first friendly people you meet’s names are puns on words that provide information of some kind, who have at some point been in a relationship with who seems to be the final boss, but they’re actually only the penultimate bosses, as some normal lookin guy yoinks the powerful heart(s) and turns into a monstrosity and begins kicking your ass up until numerous hearts of various different colors surround it, making it vulnerable. Both adventures include a Final boss who yoinks at least one of your friends in order to become their strongest. There’s also spider girls and nerdy lizards who watch anime and have robots But get ready for An adventure where the the main protagonist is pretty silent and wields a knife and used to be in a small group of friends that included at least two sets of siblings, of which said group had a little sibling within it who’s older brother, who’s away at college, has their side of their shared room decorated with many awards whilst the little sibling has hardly any, and said friend group fell apart after the older sister within the group isn’t around anymore, eventually leading into the events of the game where you swap between the entirely real world and some sort of different world that takes inspiration from real things/characters for its characters, where the main protagonist travels alongside their friends who’s skin and hair are not their regular colors and they wear different clothing. (By the way if there are any similarities i failed to mention in the Undertale/spm section of my comment, that’s because I didn’t watch the video.)
Oh, yeah, it would've been nice for completeness' sake. It's just that I've already explained and talked about Undertale a lot before, so I felt it a little bit redundant. Nice to know your feedback though!
I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY- Undertale leans more into player choice and meta-commentary on video game mechanics, but both games have similar tones, themes, and senses of humor.
