BON DIA 📡🧡✨
This time I am presenting older records from Curaçao 🇨🇼 mainly between 70s-80s (a set from my previous radio show in 2021), and I’d like to dedicate this to my mentor, a Curaçaoan who has major influence on my Salsa trajectory. Most of the songs I play in this set are in Papiamentu, an official language spoken in Curaçao, Aruba and a few other Caribbean islands and the rhythms that I selected for this show mainly are the ones that can be considered as falling under the Salsa umbrella. As much as I would like to showcase more rhythms from the island with you or even have musicians to do interviews, I have limited time and not able to share all at once thoroughly but I’d certainly hope to do so in the future:) Thank you for being here!

As a Curaçaoan woman I am extremely grateful for this playlist much about culture isn't popular or easy to find so I'm extremely grateful to have stumbled upon your video and honestly would love to get Curaçaoan sound with mentor to teach me more about my culture. I always love Spanish music but hearing the sounds of particular coming from the land of Curacao brings a extra sense of comfort warmth and joy to my heart to hear the sound for my people so thank you thank you thank you so much❤
Nice, Greetings from Curacao!!
May I please Ask what hardware you use (The setup looks great!) What recordplayers and mixer?
Dushi musica🎶
Greetings from Aruba🇦🇼
Thank you for broadening my horizons! I wish these songs were on Spotify 😭
Men of culture, we meet again.
gyaat morning
Greetings my fellow academician
Gia’s love for Latin music dates back to her childhood. She grew up dancing mambo and cha-cha-cha under the direction of her mother, a dance teacher who taught ballroom-style in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
But it wasn’t until high school, when Gia found herself at a breakdancing party, that she heard her first salsa record. “My friends would go to these breakdancing battles in Hong Kong. It was all local kids and nobody spoke Spanish, but the DJ suddenly played ‘Que Se Sepa’ by Roberto Roena. The whole crowd started singing along ‘si si, si do re do si do do,’ and when the beat dropped everyone went crazy. I was like, ‘What is this? I need to know more about this music.’”
For over ten years, Gia has been obsessively collecting and cataloging Latin music, taking multiple tours to the United States in search of rare records, many of which don’t exist online. But she’s after more than just a DJ career. “I didn’t start DJing because I wanted to be a DJ. I do it so that I can learn everything I can about the music. I don’t want to just be pressing play. I want to know all the salsa in the world.”
The filming angle was perfect
Cake
i dont know why youtube recommended me salsa but madre mia im enjoying it
Lmao same thing wtf
these songs are from Curaçao. they aren't spanish
@@donele763 It's ok, no problem
joder si
"Madre mia" is an expression from Spain, Salsa is music from the Caribbean, we don't speak like the Spanish
I came to this party for the cake but stayed for the music
Not my case
WORD UP
I stayed despite the music
You mean "I came to the party for the cake and stayed for dinner"
Nah you need jesus
I'm a simple man, I see a new vid from Gia Fu, and I click play.
Then a few days later, I click play again with a paloma in hand, with the windows open and gaze at the mtns.
Beautiful!
I grew up on the salsa from Cuba, Venezuela, y Puerto Rico and I'm so happy to hear this salsa from Curacao! Thank you!
Wow you have Yoruba name ❤. You one of my cousins in the Caribe islands 🏝 Awwwwh Ba wo ni ? .
No smoke machines, no lasers, no 60 second build ups. Just back to back grooves and sexy moves. A+
lol sexy moves aren't in the same category as smoke machines and lasers?
Ok boomer
both is good, just enjoy the vibe
exactly@@noodles7193
just the old classic, bootay and boobays
this is my morning routine i do a lil dancy dance then do teeth care then skin care now im ready for the day ahead thank you sis
Gotta miss the good old days. A nice calm day at your apartment, a turntable, hundreds of vinyl records, awesome music from all around the world jazz, salsa, classical music. An amazing set by Gia Fu. I've always loved being introduced to new songs.
As a Curaçaoan, this makes me so happy! I love this so much. Hearing my native language on a video with over 1 million views is insane. That's 10x times more people than we have here on the island. Thank you for this! Danki.
Very good music in your country Big Love from France 🙏
Curacunt, HAAAA GOT EMMMM
Hi! One question, would you please tell me the meaning of the second song (Flor by the Tunnel Miners), please? I tried looking for the full lyrics but couldn't find anything. That song caught my attention because Flor is my nickname, so I was curious to know what the song said about it.
I hope this doesn't bother you. Thank you! Your culture is lovely!
@@floren3576 the first part of the song goes something like this (freely translated): "Flower, it's already 7 o' clock. And you want to come out and show your value/beauty. Flower, how come now that the sun is out you wanna shine your colours? What does she wanna tell me? What happened today? What did I do to you? I can't understand. If I only knew what you want, I'd go get it done, I'd bring it right away. Flower, it's now noon. It's no time to answer now. Flower, the bright sun wants to give you it's warmth. Finally, I now understand what it is you're trying to say. But something like that would never happen again. (.................) Flower, from now on my appreciation will be only for your love. Flower, I'll won't ever leave you for the evil thorn". So basically, the singer is pleading for forgiveness from his love partner after having been unfaithful to her.
Men of culture, this wonderful music has gathered us today. We are truly lucky to be able to witness the beauty of Salsa and Gia around her.
Esperanza to all
APOYO TOTAAAAAL A LA BUENA SALSITA ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥If you are reading this comment come to Cali to enjoy the real salsa like this.

Hi Gia, thank you for promoting our music!!! Keep up the good work👍🏿
You're welcome.
And the camera
this set is 10/10! I could listen to it over and over!. The vibes are just so good..
come to Aruba and Curacao you will fall in love
Wonderful selection! What an incredible language is Papiamento mixing Dutch Spanish Portuguese and African languages! Listening to Ferfelu, I can hear some reminds to Oscar D'Leon and his Dimension Latina, producing absolute hits in Venezuela and the whole Caribbean in the 70s.
Actually, when Oscar D'Leon went solo it was with the help and financial support of a local Curacaoan businessman, the late Angel Job. His son, Mocky Job, is still alive and owns a record store on the island called Tik Tak . Oscar D'Leon has performed many times on the island and always makes sure to mention and give thanks to Angel Job for having helped him start his solo career as an artist.
Gia Fu never fails to put together the most bomb ass sets
no se porque con este sonido de estas mezclas me siento en la playa con una raspadilla viendo pasar la gente y a mi gente, bailando y más.
Man when the world ends her collection is going to be ever amazing
¿Quién más estaba entusiasmado de que llegara Gia?.
All these songs are so fire! My brain and soul wont allow me to hit pause nor change the video.
Proud to be from Curaçao thank you for the love🇨🇼

Wow I’m from Curacao and seeing this makes me so happy! 😀 Saludos for di Korsou / greetings from Curacao!
This brings back so many childhood memories for me growing up in Aruba, the sister island of Curaçao and Bonaire (the ABC islands).
My mom use to listen to these songs all the time and teaching me to dance to them, such great times😌
Thanks Gia for presenting our music and language Papiamentu/o to the world🌎
Greetings from Aruba🇦🇼
Just every day in my restaurant . Love your music taste . You rock ! 🎉
I am from Curacao ❤️ dushi e kantikanan Aki ta kai yiu! Yiu di Korsou!
the mix is as pleasant as the little dance. solar mood.
I thought that in my 60 years, I knew salsa. Today you showed me just how much I really don't know. You're first record " Canto Co Amor" caught me by surprise because I recognize the song, but not like what you played. The Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 version was released in 1978 by "La Sonora Ponceña". Compare and contrast when you get a chance. The first song caught me, but the rest kept me. Thanks for sharing. I ❤ Salsa!!!
I did search for the Sonora Poncena song (Canto al Amor) and you were right! Afro-Cuban music was introduced in Curacao in the 1950's after some of the island's migrant workers returned from Cuba after having worked there on the sugar cane plantations. They brought much of the Cuban musical and dance culture to the island and even today that influence is very visible in Curacaoan culture, although many are no longer aware of the Cuban origin.
She is gorgeous and music at its finest ❤
This record collection is insane
Its a beautiful planet we share...❤
What a suprise... I am from Curacao too.... Masha danki (=Thank you very much) !!
Awww my family’s from Curaçao 🇨🇼 ❤
This brought me back to Sunday mornings, waking up to my mom playing similar music and having to help clean the house :D:D:D:D !!!Danki (Thank you)!!!! Love the Selection btw!
Great music all around, I'm enjoying the beats while truck driving up here in the Midwest lol. 😎😎
OH MY LORD THIS IS BRINGNING BACK MEMORIES/ YOU ARE MAGIC SPINNING THE HITS. YOU DON'T MISS A BEAT////YOU ARE MASTER STATUS, NO ONE COME CLOSE.
Well, it's Friday night, I'm on my 5th Ti Punch, and this was exactly what this dancer needed. Thank you!

@@vjcodec heb je salsa gedanst op het eiland?
Yessssss. Hugs from Puerto Rico❤ 🇵🇷
Dushi om! Great music from the ABC islands!
Thank you for showing up in recommended. Tropico was the only way I was hearing salsa.
1. The only time I hear about Curacao is the Little League Team
2. I'm getting back into DJ again and this video is priceless to me. It gives me an idea of how to come back 😘. 💙🌷💯💃🕺💙
If you've followed the Braves, Yankees, Dodgers, Angels, Red Sox, Giants and a few other MLB teams, you may have heard the name of the island mentioned more often.
@@mynameisray6174
Nope I don't MLB. I gave up on this sport a LLOOOONNNG TIME AGO since Little League 😂.
But anyways I'm not surprised about that as well as Cuba, Puerto Rico and The DR having lots of players playing from their Areas.
I love the fan support 👍💪⚾💙
@user-md9lt4mf5v so you're just sticking to the young players. They've continued to do well on the international level, winning 5 age categories in latin american and carribean championships in 2022, and making it to the world series finals a couple of times and even winning at least one world championship in the last 3 years or so. All that for an island of about 150,000 souls. Just awesome.
@@mynameisray6174
150k...I know that there are some BEAUTIFUL Women there 😍😁💙 (Oh wait, we're talking about ⚾).
But anyways when ever the LL Championship is on guess what team I mainly root for? That Island with 150k People 💙💪⚾
Gia is the best ...

I just visited Curacao this week and used this video as a starting point to dig vinyl at Tik Tak in Willemstad. Picked up many Doble R, Indestructible Super Dynamic, and other releases while having a good conversation about island music and record pressing they did in Miami. Thanks for this video.
The vibes are just so good.
