Thanks for the weekly hauls. I have been watching your channel for a few months now. We are empty nesters with 2 incomes, but you have given us some great help. As we prepare for "semi" retirement it will be so important to watch our grocery bill. Our New Years resolution is to be more aware and frugal with our groceries. Your videos will be so beneficial. God bless you and your family in the new year.
I've always shopped monthly. I think we have enough food to last 2 to 3 months! We are doing a no spend January and I'm only going to grocery shop for what we absolutely need. You do a great job!
Nice haul. I usually don't buy dry powdered potatoes, because I can usually find 10 lbs bag for $1 on sale. Even if not on that great sale, it's still cheaper.
It is, but it is a convenience food I keep mostly for Ricky. We don't use a microwave and it's quick for him to heat that up as a side to go with the meat.
We have been buying these Idahoan potatoes too. My husband loves them! You're aren't going to believe this, but I have never made home made mashed taters! On Christmas my mother in law made hers and now I am hooked! I never want to go back. I started making homemade baked french fries a couple months ago they are soooo soo good. Potatoes are a huge staple here.
The only Aldis close to me-45 min drive to Conroe TX- I have never seen packages of meat for 1.50... I mainly shop at hispanic stores where meat is cheaper because where I live the prices are almost double. You are blessed to have a discount store and those prices. I just came across your chanel today.
Thks for sharing, that was a great haul. I find shopping every week that you catch things on sale more, and your fresh veggies and fruits doesn't go bad as fast because you use them, so weekly is for me. We don't have a discount store just Aldi and Dollar Tree, but hey they work... :)
This is awesome! I would love to have an Aldi near by. That is one of the many things I miss from the US Mainland! I saved so much shopping there. We spend between 150 and 250 a week and this is from meal planning and any household items needed (papertowels, toilet paper, etc) We shop in bulk mostly for household items but it still adds up. We are a family of 4.
It was super windy here yesterday too! The wind knocked my garbage can over and the clouds were moving really fast! Awesome deal! I need to get back to Aldi and my local market where they have a dollar section for the older sad looking produce! :D
Hey Amanda, if you want you can give my kids favourite salad a try. Its sweet carrot salad. I use one kilogramm of carrots and about 2 large apples and shredd both. The apples I shred more coarse and the carrots more fine. I soak about half a hand full of raisins in water. After shredding the apples and carrots I pour the water out of the raisins and toss them into the salad. I add salt, oil, lemon juice, orange juice (about half a cup) and vanilla flavoured sugar (this is sold in small packages of approx. a table spoon of content here in Germany). You can also add sliced oranges oder mandarin oranges, nuts or other things in this salad. Its good enjoyed fresh but even better the next day, then it is more soaked through. Greetings from Germany, Salo
I do weekly and really save a ton. We don't throw stuff out either and can stick to about 40 per week. When I did bigger 1 time per month with a small one for fresh, I threw out a lot and the kids just ate all the snacks and such so fast just because it's there.
Another great haul! That is a lot of food for $30. I shop every week. I think I end up saving more money that way. I bet the Bubba sliders would be about $8-10 per box at any other store. I love it when I can find the bag of carrots for 50 cents a pack. I cut those into carrot coins for lunches. I tell my daughter its "chips".
Great haul Amanda .. I love all the cheap meats you got this time . Aside from Brianna's Bagel Bites.... what does the rest of the family like to eat for breakfast? I didn't see much purchased for that this time.
We still have yogurt and granola, and frozen bananas- and protein bars. Plus, we have peanut butter and oatmeal. For the last few days, we have enjoyed corn bread, fried ham, eggs, and/or french toast. We aren't HUGE breakfast eaters, so breakfast food lasts. I have to get on Ricky and Rick about skipping meals. My husband thinks coffee = breakfast.
Hi Amanda, I was wondering if you would begin including daily menus for each weekly shopping haul so I know how to break your items into meals. That would be so helpful to me. Thanks so much.
I wasn't aware that that existed until a few hours ago. I will go check it out. Thank you. Also, I have to say that I love when you do thrifted clothing hauls. I hope you will do lots more of them. Thanks so much. Love your channel and you and your family. Hope you have a wonderful New Year.
All the time. But I generally don't. It would have to be an amazingly good deal for me to break. Like CRAZY good. Like when DG had their clearance, and I got laundry detergent for 60 cents. I bought every one they had.
I think meat gets me, chicken in particular, I'm a sucker for a fabulous deal on chicken. But then I just don't eat out that paycheck and use extra money for groceries (it always works out better for my waistline anyhow.)
Wendy DeLaney how nice... I would love to have a deep freeze even a tiny one, but I don't really have that much space in the kitchen and I don't have a garage. Plus I know that deep freezers use a lot of electricity, so that's another factor to consider.
You are amazing. I wish we had a discount grocery store. I live in SC but we don't have one in my area 😔. We do have an Aldis and I do utilize that. I would love to lower my food budget and a discount store would really help!
Not sure why i got here...but since i was graduate, i promise myself that i won't count my pennys for my grocery. I rather cut elsewhere. I think we spend 200$-250$ /week in grocery for a family of 3. We are in Canada and we have less supermaket choice then the states. But I grow up with a Chef daddy who cook a lot...we don't often go eat at restaurant. Instead, we cook gourmet meals at home. I go to the greengrocer for fruits and veggie, to coscto for meat& fish and organic milk, to the aisan market for jasmine rice, tofu and tones of sauce, and local supermarket for the basic.
Great haul! I love how frugal you are! I need to lower my budget for groceries! I have saved a lot of money couponing though! I wonder what are some things that you freeze? I noticed you froze celery on your other video, I had never thought of that lol what are some other things? I hate throwing food out but at times I have to since it's only 2 of us & our baby
you seem like a very pleasant person and your family seems happy. it's refreshing to see your family on TH-cam. I'm following you all now instagram as well. keep doing what you're doing :) this world needs more Christian values programming.
Spider Jones probably because Instant is quick and easy for side dishes and bagged potatoes are for soups and baked potatoes.... I do the same thing at my house. 😉
I'm so glad I found your channel I have watched all your videos and tonight I'm watching them all again!! I love ur channel!! Your laugh is so sweet :-)
You are welcome, I got a notification for this comment and I got excited I thought u uploaded a new video lol I can't wait for a new video :-) thank u for inviting us into ur home!
Yay :-) I can't wait heck I will stay up just to watch!! This is my alone time with a demanding hubby and 3 kiddos this is my only time to get to do something in peace and I'm trying to learn how to shop better, We are a family of 5 and we spent $330 and just on grocery shopping every single week :-(
That is a really great haul! How do you make all of that food last? I feel like that would be the main meals and some lunches, but what do you do for breakfasts? And do you eat snacks?
Have you read the blog? That's a common question. You can check it out at thefundamentalhome.com Someone else asked about it, so I will copy and paste what we have been doing now: "We still have yogurt and granola, and frozen bananas- and protein bars. Plus, we have peanut butter and oatmeal. For the last few days, we have enjoyed corn bread, fried ham, eggs, and/or french toast. We aren't HUGE breakfast eaters, so breakfast food lasts. I have to get on Ricky and Rick about skipping meals. My husband thinks coffee = breakfast." Snacks are whatever we make. I don't like to buy them. Briana made some cookies the other day (you can see them in the ham soup video) . Today, we just didn't have one.
in Canada this would cost me at least $100 the only discount stores we have are frozen food places and most of those are still pretty pricey for most items
I'm just wondering, when you say a discount store...is it Aldi, Save-a-lot, Ollie's??? Where I live, we used to have a local produce market that was always cheap with great produce, and a local bread store that sold day old bread for barely pennies on a dollar but they have both been closed for more than 10 years.
The Fundamental Home Ive been doing monthly but then finding myself needing randoms like a side or season before the next month which isnt a big deal just annoying. i think i may start weekly
We are a family of 8. We do not have a discount grocery store near by. It is about an hour away in a direction I never go in. And we don't even have an Aldi in Maine. How would you go about shopping for your family in a situation like this? I try very hard to feed our family on 125.00 a week. We also homeschool so the kids are home for all meals and snacks. I also pack my husbands lunch. I'd like to spend even less. We raise our own chickens for eggs and meat. Got any tips?
I'm dying to know what your discount grocery store is called. I'm in NC too. We have Aldi so I'm thankful for that. Your meat prices are amazing! I also have a gluten free child and those .50 boxes of pasta are making me so jealous! :) LOVE your channel!
What's your discount grocery store called? How can I find out if I have one of those around my area? We seem to only have regular grocery stores and Aldi around us. I always start at Aldi.
I do not share the name of my store for privacy reasons. You can google salvage or thrift grocery store. Aldi is the best place if you don't have a discount store.
I've never seen one of your grocery hauls that contain any paper products or household goods (toilet paper, laundry detergent, hair products, soaps, etc). I am fairly new to your channel so maybe I missed it? Do you have a separate budget for these things?
I like this brand better than the one at Aldi. That one reeks of corn, and it just affects the taste, in my opinion. This one is a corn/rice blend, and the smell is not so strong.
Damn, groceries are expensive in America. They are much more affordable in Latvia and in Europe in general. But you have greater selection in stores. Have you tried couponing?
The Fundamental Home i seen one of your videos where you bought a few things from the dollar store do you always use suave? and you said you were stocked up on soap?
I always check dates. The store I go to does have a lot of things that are out of date, but I choose not to purchase them. Most things that are close to date I can use before time runs out.
You know I notice the same at mine and I usually stay away from it. However watching these videos makes me wonder...Would I catch some better deals if I actually went on a regular basis? So I'm going to start going to mine at least once a week for a month or 2 and seeing what I can find. Remember too certain things you CAN use after the date. Cheese as long as it's in a block and sealed never goes bad. Meat as long as it's frozen is perfectly fine. Just stay way from dried goods that are expired.
I have watched several videos of your grocery hauls and is impressed with how much money you saved!. I know Aldi. I am curious as to the name of the "discount grocery store" you often referred to. Maybe I have one here too. I am going to put our family on a budget again this year. Can you give the name? Thanks.
luvflowers1 She won't give the name because it is a single store close to her house. I Googled discount stores in Ohio and found out they only have them in the southern half of the state. You could try it for where you live,
luvflowers1 do you have a Kroger or affiliate near you? Some of these items can be found for the same price or cheaper with sales and coupons there. For example, a few weeks ago I stocked up on pasta. They were .50 after sale, and there were .50 coupons out! So free pasta, and only .50 a pack even if you didnt have the coupon. This week at Kroger some of the idahoan potatoes are .25 each as part of a sale!
I'm disappointed you purchased more pork, 100% your decision ( you do you girl) but why say you opt not to eat it and bought it by mistake in last weeks video but then purchase more this week?
Cindy Sams well there are a lot of ethical and environmental issues with eating pork but the issue here for me isn't necessarily eating pork it's more about practicing what you preach.
I don't think I was preaching. We did buy it by accident last week, and then when we found it was not a problem for us and it was a good deal, we bought more. I have never taken a strong stand on eating pork. It is only a preference. So, I am sorry you were disappointed, but I try to be pretty open about what I do.
I cringe every time you buy cheese! lol Those tiny things are 8 ounces. I never pay more then $5 for a 2 pound block. And half the time I find a sale where it's $4 for 2 pounds. ON the other hand! lol I love how your son actually heated his food up on the stove instead of in the microwave. :) Idk about everyone else but I prefer to do it that way.
I'm glad it's not just me! lol When my family moved back up to Oregon we didn't bring ours with us and for the first 2 years didn't replace it. Unfortunately my husband was given one at work and brought it home :/ I want to toss it but I just can't bring myself to do it because of how much my husband uses it.
I used to feel that way. Then we moved 800 miles and the cost of a Uhaul was going to cost us more then it was to actually replace all our bigger stuff. The things we didn't need didn't go and that included the microwave. Once we started having to live without it honestly we didn't miss it. It's just as easy to stick something on the stove to heat as it is the microwave. Plus you save money by not buying the microwave crap dinners.
Amanda Murphy I actually got us a griddle from Walmart for $20.00 and I now use that for almost everything I cook for us and our microwave. It cut our bill down $35.00 on our electric each month. It cost more to heat up a stove and oven then buying little things like a microwave, griddle, slow cooker to cook with, I actually had my electric company tell me that over the phone when I called to ask them how can I cut down on my electric and one of the things she told me was the stove and oven along with all the unnecessary things plugged in that can add on your electric bill each month. For the past three months and us using our griddle and microwave it has really helped us out a lot to save more money on our bill.
Half that food if processed and full of sodium..How can I package of chickens filets make 4 meals..Half of them is all skin and fat..I'd rather spend more money and get healthy option's..
Now see how u shop, get groceries so cheap discount grocery I go to discount grocery Pennsylvania he trip but so worth it we make it outing we do lunch up there and enjoy scenery I go every couple month sd stock I spend hundred or less but I stocked meats p a per plates napkins l lysol she's snacks ad every day items produce to because I was trying figure out how u shop so che a p I also shop dollar tree aldi when I leave discount grocery store I am saveing lot money on groceries I get vegetable oil cheaper to I Ov r it I also stock up cleaners so as p powder dish liquid that saves on my grocery

Wow! I'm impressed! You're lucky that you have a discount grocery store in your town!
I love baked potatoes with duced ham! Also making a casserole with potatoes ham and cheese. Those idahoan potatoes make a great Sheppard pie!
Yum! To everything you said ;)
I've always shopped monthly. I think we have enough food to last 2 to 3 months! We are doing a no spend January and I'm only going to grocery shop for what we absolutely need. You do a great job!
Thank you! I hope you spend very little :)
Cindy Sams i am doing a no spend January too!! Good luck
Wow! You found some really great buys!
Thanks!
I am definitely trying one of the ham soups this weekend with our leftover ham. They both looked delicious!
They were! Let me know how it goes!
Nice haul. I usually don't buy dry powdered potatoes, because I can usually find 10 lbs bag for $1 on sale. Even if not on that great sale, it's still cheaper.

omg! potatoes are like $2 per kilo (so about $1/lb) in the Philippines! Its even more expensive on some months

They do work pretty well :) I am really enjoying this weekly thing!
You look like you are, I really enjoy watching your videos. :)
I think we all enjoy your weekly shopping too lol. Its fun watching more videos of what you find on sale.
I love Aldi. Ours is closing for remodeling at the end of the month. I will miss it for 3 months.
It was super windy here yesterday too! The wind knocked my garbage can over and the clouds were moving really fast! Awesome deal! I need to get back to Aldi and my local market where they have a dollar section for the older sad looking produce! :D
It's still windy today, but we love it :)
Hey Amanda, if you want you can give my kids favourite salad a try. Its sweet carrot salad.

I have to agree with that. Weekly does help because everyone isn't rushing to eat the "good" stuff. They know there will be more soon.
I don't know if my kids would believe me if I told them they were chips ;) I needed that tip when they were younger!
I am so jealous of your discount grocery store!!!
It's a really good one.
Great haul Amanda .. I love all the cheap meats you got this time . Aside from Brianna's Bagel Bites.... what does the rest of the family like to eat for breakfast? I didn't see much purchased for that this time.

Wonderful haul! Do wish we had an Aldi in my area. Great job.
Thank you!
wow wish we had a discount store and a Aldi in Louisiana Thanks for sharing
I hope you find a good place for deals :)
we have some discount stores but none like what you have, or maybe i havent found one yet. i love your prices.
I love them, too. Keep looking. Maybe you will find a treasure :)
Hi Amanda, I was wondering if you would begin including daily menus for each weekly shopping haul so I know how to break your items into meals. That would be so helpful to me. Thanks so much.
I post them in our Frugal Family Food group on Meal Plan Monday. You can join if you would like to check them out :)
I wasn't aware that that existed until a few hours ago. I will go check it out. Thank you. Also, I have to say that I love when you do thrifted clothing hauls. I hope you will do lots more of them. Thanks so much. Love your channel and you and your family. Hope you have a wonderful New Year.
Thanks! I am headed to the thrift store today :)
Yay !!!!! Thanks for responding. I am so excited !!!
Are you ever tempted to stock up on a really good deal and borrow from the following weeks budget?
All the time. But I generally don't. It would have to be an amazingly good deal for me to break. Like CRAZY good. Like when DG had their clearance, and I got laundry detergent for 60 cents. I bought every one they had.
I think meat gets me, chicken in particular, I'm a sucker for a fabulous deal on chicken. But then I just don't eat out that paycheck and use extra money for groceries (it always works out better for my waistline anyhow.)
I don't have a lot of freezer space, either. That plays into my decision making, too.
OH YEAH thats true. I had to get a deep freezer a few years ago after the boys went hunting, otherwise I'd be in that boat too.
Wendy DeLaney how nice... I would love to have a deep freeze even a tiny one, but I don't really have that much space in the kitchen and I don't have a garage. Plus I know that deep freezers use a lot of electricity, so that's another factor to consider.

Try googling salvage or discount grocery store. SC has a lot of them.
We used to have one but they closed. I've even googled for the nearby towns and can't find any 😩😩😩😩
I just found one that is new but is 40 minutes away. Do you think it would be worth the drive?
If it were me, I might stop by if I were headed in that direction. I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip at that distance.
There is one in Batesburg-leesville, SC but it is not as good as it use to be. What town is the new one at?
Not sure why i got here...but since i was graduate, i promise myself that i won't count my pennys for my grocery. I rather cut elsewhere. I freeze just about everything. Peppers, onions, fruit, anything that can be frozen, I freeze it ;)
Wow!! I have considered it for a while but after this video I might switch up to weekly grocery runs. Wonder if there is a grocery outlet in Dallas?
I have really enjoyed shopping weekly. :)
you seem like a very pleasant person and your family seems happy. it's refreshing to see your family on TH-cam. I'm following you all now instagram as well. keep doing what you're doing :) this world needs more Christian values programming.
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!
The Fundamental Home you're welcome
Wow those prices are so good. Don't have cheap prices like that where I live. (MA)
Prices do vary depending on where you live.
Thanks for sharing your haul. I've been enjoying them lately. By the way, why do you buy instant mashed potatoes and regular potatoes?
Spider Jones probably because Instant is quick and easy for side dishes and bagged potatoes are for soups and baked potatoes.... I do the same thing at my house. 😉
Exactly. Convenience items save me from eating out.
your discount store have great prices. love your channel. . new subbie here
Thanks for watching!

Hi, are these prices with coupons? Our ALDI never had bargains like this , and I love ALDI !
No coupons. Some things did not come from Aldi. Some came from my discount grocery store.
I sure wish I had a discount stores near me! I am in the middle of 3 Aldis and love shopping there!
They are great stores!
That is a really great haul! How do you make all of that food last? I feel like that would be the main meals and some lunches, but what do you do for breakfasts? And do you eat snacks?

Commit to it for a month and see if it helps :)
The Fundamental Home i think i will. i love the way you budget. it helped me realize why am i buying all this crap and helped me stop buying a lot

I would use my same system at the cheapest stores I could find. That is what I did when we lived in MD. Have you read the blog?

Thank you! You can google salvage or thrift grocery store to see if there is one in your area.
I watched another video of yours just a few minutes ago and saw your suggestion to google salvage grocery stores. Thank you!
Great shopping! What discount store do you use?
We don't share it for privacy reasons, but you can google salvage or thrift grocery stores to find one in your area.
OK Thanks!
Great job!
Thanks!
I wished I lived near you so that I could go shopping with you. I could save a tons of money if I grocery shopped with you!!!

I do not share the name of my store for privacy reasons. You can google salvage or thrift grocery store. Aldi is the best place if you don't have a discount store.
can you do a meals of the week video where you show all your meals for a week using these groceries :)
That's a good idea :)
AshLovesCoupons I was just going to suggest that too 😊
I filmed all three meals today. I should have a video for the week by next Sunday. Hopefully. If all goes well and I remember ;) Pray about that!
Great haul! Is there a specific reason you do not have a microwave?
Thanks! It kills nutrients, and I think it doesn't taste as good.
Great haul!
Thanks!
You did really good!!
I've never seen one of your grocery hauls that contain any paper products or household goods (toilet paper, laundry detergent, hair products, soaps, etc). I am fairly new to your channel so maybe I missed it? Do you have a separate budget for these things?
Yep. Personal items are separate. I did make a video about it. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/s-pRkFGYhyY/w-d-xo.html
The Fundamental Home thanks!
great haul. what do you think of the taste of the gluten free pasta?
I like this brand better than the one at Aldi. That one reeks of corn, and it just affects the taste, in my opinion. This one is a corn/rice blend, and the smell is not so strong.
I have seen a Discount food store in Ga. yet?
Have you asked in the Frugal Family Food group?
love your videos! wish i could do the same. but im curious how do you factor in gas going between two stores ?
I did a video on that. The stores that I visit are less than a mile apart. It costs about 19 cents to go to my three main stores.
Damn, groceries are expensive in America. They are much more affordable in Latvia and in Europe in general.
But you have greater selection in stores.
Have you tried couponing?
I have never been successful with couponing.
Great video!
Thanks!
I saw those Bubba burgers today at Winco - $12! :o
Wow!
The Fundamental Home I think they were the same size. how much did you pay?
1.99 per box
How much do you spend on household items? how do you save on that stuff?
I spend $20-30 every two weeks, including cat and dog food. I just do the same thing I do with food. I buy minimally and focus on the necessities.
The Fundamental Home i seen one of your videos where you bought a few things from the dollar store do you always use suave? and you said you were stocked up on soap?
that head of lettuce would have easily cost about $7-$9 in the Philippines (I'm not kidding)
Wow!
well done!
Thanks!
theres a discount store by me but everything is a few days away before expired. if not already expired:(
I always check dates.
What is a discount grocery? Like a Save a Lot?
It's a salvage or thrift grocery store
I like to grocery shop too!
You could try it for where you live,
You can google thrift or salvage grocery store to find one in your area.
luvflowers1 do you have a Kroger or affiliate near you? Some of these items can be found for the same price or cheaper with sales and coupons there. For example, a few weeks ago I stocked up on pasta. They were .50 after sale, and there were .50 coupons out! So free pasta, and only .50 a pack even if you didnt have the coupon. This week at Kroger some of the idahoan potatoes are .25 each as part of a sale!
No Kroger in my area
I'm realizing how much unnecessary items I actually buy she I do groceries... thanks!
Thank you!
the aldi near me is nasty i couldn't shop there if it was free
How sad. We love our Aldi.
Add some peanut butter to those 🍎 they'll be eaten in no time!
Peanut butter: It just fills in the cracks of the heart
The Fundamental Home Mine too! 😂
you look so pretty!
Thanks!
I'm disappointed you purchased more pork, 100% your decision ( you do you girl) but why say you opt not to eat it and bought it by mistake in last weeks video but then purchase more this week?
Mel Everett What's wrong with eating pork ? Just curious.
Mel Everett even hear of changing your mind?
I cringe every time you buy cheese! lol Those tiny things are 8 ounces. I never pay more then $5 for a 2 pound block. And half the time I find a sale where it's $4 for 2 pounds.
ON the other hand! lol I love how your son actually heated his food up on the stove instead of in the microwave. :) Idk about everyone else but I prefer to do it that way.
We don't own (or want to own) a microwave, so we heat everything on the stove. I think it tastes better that way.
The Fundamental Home Never heard of a family never owning or wanting a microwave before, our family can't live without one. Just seems strange
For the past three months and us using our griddle and microwave it has really helped us out a lot to save more money on our bill.
what state do you live in?
North Carolina.
Half that food if processed and full of sodium..How can I package of chickens filets make 4 meals..Half of them is all skin and fat..I'd rather spend more money and get healthy option's..
Dawn saurman the chicken is boneless skinless
Check out my food diary videos and I think you will see how I manage it.

I don't see you buy drinks
We drink water almost exclusively. We will occasionally make a cup of cocoa or hot tea. We also have coffee, but the kids don't drink that.
America's goods are so cheap...
If you are wise where you shop.
