Climb Dance (Remastered Video with Original Audio)

- Climb Dance is a famous cinéma vérité short film, featuring Finnish rally driver Ari Vatanen setting a record time in a highly modified four-wheel drive, all-wheel steering Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 GR at the 1988 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in Colorado, USA. The film was produced by Peugeot and directed by Jean Louis Mourey. The record time set was 10:47.77.
In 2013 Peugeot commissioned remastered HD version of film in celebration of their contest in Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2013 edition with rally ace Sébastien Loeb. This version featured updated opening and closing music tracks.
This feature version has remastered HD video with the original music tracks.

That title goes to Walter "I didn't even want to be world champion" Rorhl. But Ari is a very very close second place :)

Only one video can be compared about the atmosphere - onboard of Senna in Monaco. But non can be matched as a wholesome film like this one from that time. Donno who did this fantastic job of remastering, but this made me happy! Thank you
Both these videos are somewhat not perfect. This is from 1989 where Ari didn't set the record and lost the race to Robby Unser (who drove other Peugeot 405 with number 2). Ari set the record in 1988, but that is not this film. And Ayrton's amazing Monaco qualifying was in 1988, but the video you are talking about is from 1990. There was no onboard camera in 1988. Really? I just drove Dirt 1 (2007) (codemasters first really nice racing sim) and the second longest version of that track and it was 50/50 tarmac and sand. And about the driver.. after this he moved to France to be a farmer and after that he got elected to EU parliament. What a guy! :D Maybe still continues the life in France with all those vegetables or wheat, whatever he was/is farming.
@@user-js7ww1gq1n if you know all that about him surely you know he still participates in many motorsport events. 2007 was 13 years ago, many things have happened since then including pikes peak being tarmac'd all the way to the top.
Its rougher now its tarmac then it was then when it was dirt.

@@simiangimp2282 There's plenty of Americans that know what motor sport is and love stuff like this. There's also plenty of great motorsports in America that aren't NASCAR. Go to a local short track anywhere across the states and you'll see great racing by weekend warriors that do it for the sport and not the money.

Love this video. Thanks for posting the remastered version. It's much crisper.
The original release has better muzak (heard here) and end credits have more style, which are on top of that still at the end straight after that text which remains here - only after those, the final bit happens and then the copyright year and stuff is seen. Those final 2 minutes are included as an unlockable bonus video in V-Rally 2 on the PlayStation game console (In their original form!). Also that car can be driven. Cool stuff.

I went up to the top of Pikes Peak in 1990 with my parents. My dad said it was a very stressful drive, and he was only going about 20 mph!

Video is from 1989. This was not the record setting run from 1988. In 1989 Ari placed second behind american Robby Unser.
Always will be my favourite pikes peak video. And no matter how old, anything newer on tarmac isn’t worth watching. Ari is legend. Walter Rhohl the better achiever but I love Ari’s style more, makes mistakes but over the top commitment to it getting the job done is pure Ari. Risk taker, yes. But a brilliant driver.

In this track the best of american and japanese cars race to be the best.....then every 30 years or so the french come for just one race and completely destroy them😂
No hydro handbrake's yet that is what makes these group B and group S cars so spectacular
didn't the original version show his footwork on the pedals as well. imho it was most spectacular part

So I was watching the MotorTrend piece on the 2020 Hill climb an I happened onto "Climb Dance".
Now don't be me wrong, it's a great piece, but it's only 4:50 long. The Peugeot team won the race and set the record at 10:47. Would it have killed them to have produced a film of say 11:47 with a bit of intro and a bit of exit and in between showed the entire run?? Just sayin'....
Its from 20years ago, don't think the film would have lasted a full run, haha.
its made of from snippets of all the practice runs over the 3 test days mornings (6am-9am) and the race day run.
@@daveao686 Do you know if it's all 1988 footage or are some scenes from 1989 as well? Vatanen's car carrying the number 1 makes me wonder if those shots are from 1989 since I don't know if he already carried the number 1 in 1988.
