I made some cardboard furniture shelves and saved a lot of time by taping same size boxes together instead of making boxes.

Please - in making cardboard furniture that will withstand weight - ALTERNATE THE GRAIN OF THE CARDBOARD!!! This one thing will provide your piece with strength almost like wood because the corrugations from one piece to the next, going > and then ^ allows the resultant "board" hold much more weight. I mention this because it appears the person putting this furniture together is simply cutting boxes and putting pieces together with corrugations going in the same direction. Don't do this if you want your piece to hold weight or stand up to more than a day or two of use!
Thank you very much for your comment Cathryn! I completely agree with you. If the furniture is to support a lot of weight, it is essential to do this with the cardboard. In my case, I made this piece of furniture to put clothes on and I've had it for years and it's the same. It has carried the weight very well all these years.
It also depends on the technique you use, the glue, etc. In my case, I used cartapesta and a special mixture, which gives the cardboard a very good firmness.

Thank you! I prepare a mixture of water, plaster, white glue for wood and if you want white paint, this way you already have it painted. With this technique it will be hardened, then you can paint it the color you want or cover with adhesive paper

Gracias Marisol!!! es cartón grueso de un solo canal, común y corriente, lo puedes conseguir en cajas de cartón de electrodomésticos como televisores, etc. Puedes preguntar en tiendas, supermercados, etc... la idea es reutilizar este tipo de cajas de cartón grande, que normalmente terminan en la basura

What an amazing idea!! I would like to make something similar, but to hold the bags of my preschool kids. Do you think it will be strong enough? What is your ratio of water:plaster:glue:paint?
Thank you Christelle!! I did it a long time ago and I have my work materials and crafts, paints and other heavy things, it is the same as when I did it. Perhaps with time it begins to make a curve in the center, but if you distribute the weight it will be better.
As for the proportion of water, glue, plaster and paint, it all depends on the thickness of the product.
There are thicker glues and others that are more liquid. Like paint, it depends on the color you want to paint it. I recommend that you prepare and mix the products until you get it to be somewhat thick but liquid enough to be able to spread it well.
If you are going to paint it in a color other than white, after applying this mixture you should let it dry well for a few hours and then paint in the chosen color

I have made a lot of cardboard furniture myself and I am always make sure to close any gaps between the ‘wall’ of the piece and the ‘shelf’. You get a more professional looking finish. Using more layers of cardboard also makes it stronger.
