Nice to see Sonata Arctica getting some love, reactors rarely react to them. Great video!
    Some facts:
They started as a hard rock band called Tricky Means in 1996, became Tricky Means when they changed their genre to power metal, to finally take their current name when they signed a contract with Spinefarm Records in 1999. Their 4 first albums are considered to be power metal, then they wanted to broaden their horizons (with a lot of old fans backslash...) and went more progressive and symphonic, and even released a hard rock album. The last three albums are a mix of all their influences.
Nightwish was formed in 1996 too so I'd say none of them was first. Without Tony there wouldn't be any Nightwish today, in 2001 Tuomas wanted to split the band because of problems with Sami Vänskä, Nightwish's bassist at that time. He went hiking with Tony in Lapland and Tony convinced him not to give up on his band.

Tony Kakko, Sonata's lead vocalist and songwriter, featured Nightwish on stage already before Marko joined Nightwish in 2001. Nightwish has songs that need a male vocalist. Tuomas used to sing way back in time when there was no one else, but he is no vocalist. At some point he said never again. Tapio Wilska, a big guy, also did male vocals for Nightwish before Marko. Tony featured Nightwish in Rio 2015 concert too.
I had a ticket to see Sonata on September 2nd in Helsinki, with two other bands, but it got cancelled. Covid a guess.
"Tallulah" is a mellower Sonata song as someone mentioned. "Replica" in Wacken (2008?),
"My Land" Masters of Rock (2015?), "Victoria's secret" Live are songs that come to my mind.
Thanks for the one who requested this, so I didn't need to.

Sonata Arctica has so much to offer. So glad they crossed your radar. I will highly suggest ye olde fan favorites Full Moon, Wolf and Raven, and Don’t Say a Word; the middle-of-the-timeline songs Flag in the Ground and Only the Broken Hearts (Make You Beautiful); and then from the newer end of the spectrum We Are What We Are, Demon’s Cage, and Storm the Armada.
Tony has such an amazing voice and at some point in your journey you’ll want to see/hear the stuff he’s done guesting with Nightwish. I got to see SA supporting NW in 2016 and Tony is a real delight onstage, also.

The only comparison I would give Tony and Tuomas is they're both storytellers and write music similar. Tony has said he writes music 1st then lyrics last, Tuomas the same thing. Tony has WPBO 1 and 2 and the Caleb Saga and Tuomas has his grand master pieces. Tony is the kind of guy who would probably be embarrassed to be compared to Tuomas someone he cares about.

I've seen both Nightwish and Sonata Arctica many times. While Nightwish might be the deeper band with an unmatched catalogue, I enjoyed Sonata live more than I did Nightwish live. They pay attention to their sound check so that you can hear everything they play, while Nightwish plays too loud to truly enjoy unless you are closer to the sound board (in my opinion)

Great reaction, earned you a new subscriber!
Sonata Arctica are a great band, well spotted with the comparisons to Nightwish.
For some of their faster paced songs check out the albums Ecliptica, Silence and Winterheart's Guild.
The albums Reckoning Night, Unia and The Day's of Grays have a mix of more heavy sounding story based songs and from Stones Grow Her Name onwards they are a bit more experimental in the sounds they produce.
Well worth a listen and it would be great to see you react to some more of their stuff!

Thanks for the great reaction again 😊 Great band with great music and lyrics. Someone already told you they are formed in 90's and not influenced by Nightwish 😁 Actually I'm not sure who is/are their song writer(s)...
They have released 10 studio albums and their music style is power/progressive metal. So there is lots of material 😁
    This song is from 2004.
I recommend to check also Fullmoon, Victoria's Secret, I have a Right and Fullmoon 🤘
Not sure if there is live versions with good sound/video quality but you can listen studio versions as well.

FullMoon and Victoria's Secret can be found on both DVDs, For The Sake of Revenge and Live In Finland. I'd say FullMoon -> Live in Finland and Victoria"s Secret -> For The Sake of Revenge.
An acoustic version of I Have A Right has been recorded in May and is available on TH-cam.
Their songwriter is Tony Kakko, the lead singer and they were heavily influenced by Stratovarius at first!

Their prog metal phase is certainly my favourite, so I think they peaked with Unia. Which is unfortunate, since "Paid in Full" and "For the Sake of Revenge" are the only songs that get regular live play off that album. I think "It Won't Fade" is their overall best song...and "Caleb" is up there too (I was fortunate enough to attend the Unia tour, so I've seen both of these songs live...they almost never play them now). "Reckoning Night" is my second-favourite album from them...and then probably Ecliptica or Silence. Since Unia, they've been extremely hit and miss, imo. Pariah's Child is their only fairly strong album since then, but even it had its bad songs ("Cloud Factory" for example).
