For the purchase fee, Lyon offered to match Chelsea's final offer. Contract-wise, Lyon apparently offered higher wages but Girma preferred to go to Chelsea.
Player salaries are a private matter protected by labor laws. Pay equity is all fine and great, yet it does not over rule current labor laws in the U.S. or England.
I meant to add a follow-up question too. Where might a player like Yohannes go once her Ajax contract ends? Could chelsea run the risk of being overloaded with national team stars like Gotham’s current situation?
I think it means mls have a salary cap and run like other American sports leagues to limit risk. Football in Europe there is no cap so you overspend and invest a lot more for a better product. Chelsea operate at a loss but are subsidizes by the men side. I personally believe women’s football has a lot more room for growth in Europe than America.
U lot didn’t acknowledge Barcelona femeni and the fact that this record easily coulda been broken in the summer when Arsenal bid 1.2 million for Keira Walsh. Also Barcelona scout specific needs for the team and go after. Most of their talents are home grown from the academy Chelsea and Lyon can’t grow talent like Barca so they have to buy.
Girma it seems had no say in terms her choice of next Club ...She was just sold to the highest bidder. If she picked Chelsea ahead of Lyon them she is not very clever which ironically what a typical Chelsea player is and she would fit right in.
Wrong. Lyon offered higher wages and would have matched Chelsea's transfer fee (not to say Chelsea would not have upped the price again) ... Girma deliberately chose Chelsea. Don't think all those winners are dumb. (Chelsea women are not the circus the men's team is)
With the new manager the Wave sounds like it may end up as Scandi hey go!? I kept saying Manchester United needed someone like Asisat Oshuala, but she came to NWSL, so it is a big draw for talent. Watching games is just as difficult trans Atlantic though, when they are after midnight and you might be working next morning. Good luck to Girma. Folk over here can see her live more often now, so awards may follow?
Idk I think Manchester needed some like Pajor, Oshoala played for Barca a team that creates the most clear cut chances in the world and she was very wasteful of a lot of them. United needs someone’s who’s gonna put away chances efficiently not some who’s gonna score 1 in 6 chances they get
@henryleke3315 I used to like the way that Asisat Oshuala dragged defences around with her presence. She seemed to be on the winning team enough. I thought United lacked a presence in the box when Russo left. Williams comes on and does it as a substitute to good effect. I thought it would allow chances for such as Toone to link up.

SK 🐐 20 is so good that she'll probaby score a vital goal in the UWCL Semi-Final or Final itself.
This is a very cool transfer for the English League. Girma is the best defender in the world and a super star.
🙌
You comment that Chelsea outbid Lyon for Girma but the news this side of the pond is that Lyon bid the most but Girma decided to come to Chelsea women
It’s hard to believe that Michele Kang would be outbid…. Wave’s GM said that that Naomi wanted to go to Chelsea.

Emma Hayes also said American player’s should goto Europe
Yes because, they will be better players.

This is English football in the best league in WOSO!
The fee was £890K GBP.

Appreciate yall answering my question - Evtanglement 😭🤣
Thank you for writing in! ]
Things you love to see 🙌🏻
What questions do you have about Naomi Girma going to Chelsea?
Who are some other US national team players to watch who may make similar moves to Europe down the road?
@@hannaforeman2244 Rodman might be the next USA Player to join Chelsea.
Smith could go to Europe too.

I’m hoping Chelsea gets Keira Walsh also
What does MLS 2.0 mean? I don't watch MLS so I have no idea what that means.

Neymar jr's record transfer = $ 241m
Let that sink in
Up the mighty Chels!
Girma 🤭🤭
Barça Femení makes money, by the way. It doesn't lose money.

a good replacement for Sam Kerr who’s no longer worthy of her place in the team due to poor form and bad headlines.
??? A cb is suppose to replace an attacker???

Are you an arsenal supporter perchance???
