Thanks - my wife and I have visited Dumfries many times over the years it is amazing to see such a timeless yet beautiful town where so much is so recognizable in this video 30 odd years ago as it is now, this really is so rare. Kind regards from Oldham in Lancashire
Myles bar , Shapers , Corner Cupboard , Pioli's Wm. Lows , The County hotel , Squinty Midsteeple ! , Hepworth's , Woolie's , Unionist rooms , Monty's Bar , Woolgrowers , Great memories , Thanks for this Alex Wilson . Thinking ahead -- " A Lore Burne " .
wow. !!! been so nostalgic lately. My twin trisha got me on to the site of photos of old Dumfries and came across this by chance. I lived next door from you where the film ended. If I remember you were very much in to music. I was there from 1979 till 1982.
Wow. I wasnt born until 1987 and I can hardly recognise or remember half this stuff. Ive been told about places like Wm Lows being at burns statue and that Ive been in there but I cant remember it. This is amazing to watch. Nice to see when the high street wasnt padestrianised, Wish it was still like that. Think it would attract more people now. Also like the dual carrageway was longer up the sands wasnt expecting that! Or turning right on english street going back onto the high street. THANKS!
what a fantastic video takes me straight back there i worked in the bingo at the regal then i was probably in there at work shouting the numbers wish i was back there now
changing the high street so people cant drive up/down it probably killed the town! what a video! dumfries seems so much better back then, the layout and the businesses! a better lap as well hardy har har har! cheers alex! get the tvs out the back of the shop ken! storage on brewery st!
Brilliant but just a shame even the top of the range camcorder was poor. Would have been fab to see the actual shop names etc and I wonder what was on at the Cinema
Joanie again. Trisha says all changed since the film. Will visit after the new year, including 36 Castledykes rd. Been 8 years now so expect a difference. Don't know if you still live there but fond memories of places like the Lyver, Swannies taxies, Binns, Oultons, White Hart (worked there), Fuscos, Picolo's (best ice cream), So many places. What was the best pub on Irish St for music ? In Aberdeen now. Came for a year in 1988 and been here since. Lots to catch up with !!!
Fascinating gem of a video. The good old days. So sad to see what Conservative policy and heroin have done to the town I love. Place is full of bookies, jakey’s, junkies, neds and plastic gangsters now. If Dumfries is going to be saved it will mean Scotland breaking away from the ruinous Union and the social destruction caused by the Conservative Party. Sa’or Alba Gu Bràth. Thig ar latha.
Great video watched it a couple of times now love to see how different Dumfries now looks. To who ever has put this video on TH-cam I would like to ask your permission to use the video for a little idea a have? If you could let me know by replying here or via email at DockParkDumfries@gmail.com Thanks
This is how I best remember Dumfries. Great video, took me right back to the 80s. It was great when you could drive around the town. Thank you!

I knew a guy from Annan called Alex Wilson in the 80’s. Boy racer. Crashed his car into the bridge.
That's not the same Alex Wilson. This Alex Wilson is from Dumfries and can't drive.
