My thoughts as well Mark. But what we have learned from many other rescue/restoration people so much that has been relegated to the trash heap is better than currently made tools and just needs a little TLC and maintenance.
I almost bought an old salvage yard a few years back My wife saw my face and guess she got jealous because she wouldn't let me lol. She knew sh would never see me again
I just realized you're a hardware and tool picker too. Nice. We need more people like that saving old equipment and cleaning up rural areas of America.
Not to mention how much better the old equipment is compared to modern crap.. No computers pulling "called company repairman for you consumer, now pay 5K bill for lightbulb chance or i wont start until this is done"

Thank you for all your inspiration. My sons and I have rescued and completely rebuilt an old Belsaw M14 sawmill. We are now in the test and tune phase. Again thank you
I am becoming convinced that skid steers are the most versatile work vehicles there is and getting one that you can bring back from just sitting there rotting will be a great project to follow. That fellow's property could supply years f Salvage Workshop picks and restoration projects. Amazing place. Good luck.
The sawzall did a good job but that was the wrong tool for the job you needed Big Red for the trees, brush and stuff you had to move plus the 955 could have picked up the skid steer to set it on the trailer lol
Exactly... Heavy machinery is HEAVY! This will make moving & working on all kinds of things MUCH easier for my one man crew! And YES, a huge help with Old Red! Thanks for the support Jim!
Lol, ya know Frank, Old Red would have been PERFECT for getting it outta there! I'm definitely going to need a way to move him once he's back together, but have no fear, I'm working on that!
I imagine this person could've sold a few of the items while they were still in good shape and built a shed to keep the rest in, to save them from the elements.
That property looked like Treasure Island to me. All that iron just sitting there. Most I was shocked, didn't look that rusty for just sitting there exposed to the elements. Wonder where in the country this is? Everyone on the West Coast has decided that anything and everything is either an Antique, Vintage or some such thing and demands a price that is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks very much for sharing. Enjoyed watching the treasure hunt, find and recovery.
Nice to know that Im Not the only one willing to sacrifice a lot of my time to rescue an older piece of equipment. I bought a new holland l775 from a guy who was literally depreciating the poor old boy and I'm still trying to find some parts or even buy another one to use as a doner. If you come across one I would definitely be interested. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 💪
Crazy that someone would just leave perfectly usable tools and equipment out in the elements like that . I takes a certain kinda skill to resurrect old neglected machines . Love the video .
I appreciate that! It's amazing the incredible people I meet along my journeys, and Mike happened to be one of those people! Thanks for watching, I truly appreciate the support!

Wow, what a convoluted trail to get it rescued. Mike had the perfect big brother machine to get it free, and every obstacle was another interesting, rusty find. I think your multiple-angle camera work really sets you apart - appreciate the effort and the editing.
I'm honestly amazed at the lengths he had to go to to drag that thing out of there. There were at least three points where i was thinking "he should be out of there around this corner". But nope, it just showed it was deeper and deeper inside that mess. Side bonus for the old owner, on top of getting rid of an old machine, he got some brush cutting done as a bonus.
We had the same model on our old dairy farm. Rebuilt the engine around 3000 hrs and was still going strong at 7200hrs. Was a good machine for its age and size
This will be an exciting project to follow. I've wanted a skid steer for years, but I can't afford new and the used units are really beat to pieces. If you can get this up and running, fully functional, and can give us some idea of your investment, I'll know better whether or not to attempt a similar project with a machine of similar or maybe even a little better condition.
Now that’s a place I would like to pick with a little cash in my pocket. Lots of cool stuff there. That heavy metal table would fit in my shop perfect.
I have SEEN THE FUTURE!!! In 30 years, YOU will have all of this stuff on your property and YOU will help a young whipper snapper load something that they found on your property that you don't use anymore! The circle of life!!!!
I'm TOTALLY fine with that, but I decided not to wait till I'm old to start doing that! I like to share my discovery's with people that enjoy them the way I do! I already have more projects than I'll ever complete, so no sense in just keeping everything! Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to stop finding or getting more cool projects, but I'll continue to find people to share them with as well!
If it’s not running on a couple cylinders pull the valve cover first. These have a little cap that sits between the rocker arm and tip of the valve. When the valve adjustment gets loose they can fall out and the push rod will disengage the rocker arm.
One heck of a guy there. You don't see them like this anymore. It amazes me how people can talk about elderly people and just convince them to do whatever. I'm glad this feller is still going good. Hopefully for many more years to come. Younger folks need to learn from this man. The younger feller was polite to him as well and was patient with him and they helped each other. Glad to see there are still good people out there.
I had a GEHL 4625sx. It was a great running/working skid steer. Only issue I had was the valve body for the directional control wouldn't let the machine sit still at idle. Mine performed best using the foot throttle, rather then the throttle lever, as it offered better, less jerky, control of the machine. Otherwise it worked great for farm work and snow removal. My only true complaint was that it uses an old "cantalever" quick attach design, so finding attachments is damn near impossible. Swap it out for the later quick latch plate, bud!
Skid steered the skid steer out and rode her, boy! Great and versatile machines well worth doing up. :) Also good trailer reversing skill great to see!
