Man those old PC's in the background scared the S%*t out of me. Thought I was time warped back to 89'. Glad i stuck around for the reveiw.

The old PC's make the video seem old, i thought it you could think it was short 10 years ago😂😂

There must be some issue with measuring the network bandwidth. 1080p full NDI is usually 80-120 Mbps, up to even 200 Mbps. And look how your TOTAL usage is when you use Bird-Dog (8-10%) and when you switched to the Spark it was 1%.
Update about the comms (talkbalk software) - there is a free version of it for up to four bird-dogs.

I'd have to add to this review the absolute quality of the BirdDog support team. Having worked with both Birdog and Newtek I have found Birdog's support to be absolutely amazing and helpful whereas I have no use for Newtek as a company as far as I could kick them. Newtek has provided very little support, have displayed their absolute apathy towards customer service and provided me with nothing but frustration.
Another point that can be made is that Birddog also offers a 4k option with a encoder/decoder device.

Spark = NDI HX (compressed). BirdDog is full NDI (uncompressed). The problem is that everyone is talking about NDI while in a lot of cases it's NDI HX...

All NDI uses compression but HX is utilizing some degree of h.264 on top for lower bandwidth requirements. support.newtek.com/hc/en-us/articles/218109667-NDI-Encoding-Decoding

Talk about timely. I was just looking into these, did a Google search just as the Great Lon posts a video about it!

Biggest advantage over spark is that the birddog can decode

    Hi Lon!
    Thanks for another great review.
However, I think you are wrong in the bandwidth test between newtek spark and birddog. This is probably due to the way Windows measures the bandwidth. Please come back to me so I can show what I got for results when I did the same test that you have done.

What did you get on yours?

    • @HenrikWilsson

@@LonSeidman A "pure NDI" from a birddog is around 120 Mbits. When you measure in windows under processes you will get a result that is like yours (around 10 to 20 Mbits). But if you instead look under the performance tab in Windows, you will see that the NDI signal is about 120 Mbits.

I can't really see the difference of the bandwidth usage between the BirdDog Mini and the Spark Connect. Did you run some more tests? Is there really a big difference?
    Thanks!

You always give great reviews. Suggest upgrading your backdrop... needs color..looks like a library graveyard. Just a suggestion. For all the work you put into each of your videos, I would love to see your subs increase.

Unfortunately that’s not in the cards for now. I think the look is unique and staying as is for now.

The backdrop is part of the theme of his channel; it's retro. No reason to change.

Hi , we now have NewTek NDI in Finncast Studio, we have 4 NDI inputs, with chroma keying , also in our video switcher and individual volume control for each NDI input. We also implemented a pan and Zoom for non PTZ cameras. You can view here www.finncast.com
