I thought it was to go into the drawer with all the other spare gaskets I have. It's called the f*ck knows draw.

I am beginning to think this set is just a generic 200Tdi set

Ave a look on LR Workshop. It appears to fit between block and timing case over the three holts in triangle. If you don’t already have the info I can send it.

Found the place for that gasket in parts manual. I think I can't share it here but I will send it to your e-mail.

Had the same when i was rebuilding my early disco 200tdi engine and like you it does not fit any where ,im sure its for a 2.5td engine.

Yeap looks like it - wonder why they didn't include it in the image of the front cover gaskets?

2.5 turbo diesel - not a Tdi gasket

Fits between the block & rear timing case, item 8 on page 172 of Defender 200tdi parts book.

But not shown in workshop manual.

Correct - the gasket has been superseded by the round one years ago, but not updated in the parts drawing, giving the impression there is another gasket somewhere!

    Not needed on a 200Tdi….Disco 1 unless I missed something too….☹️

The gasket has been superseded by the round one years ago, but not updated in the parts drawing - in face they are one and the same - but both are in the gasket set

Never done one of these engines for years - never see them now, and as it had been rebuilt before I thought they missed it out - turns out this gasket had been superseded by the round one! - pity the part diagram didn't show it and the gasket kit had both in!

I can't help with that I'm afraid. Looks more like a packer/spacer/shim rather than a gasket?

    • @BritannicaRestorations

I found out this is the early design - replaced years ago by the round one, but still in the gasket set giving the impression there is another gasket needed!

Mike, I’ve got the paper copy of the workshop manual for the 200tdi, MPi and V8 in front of me- this gasket doesn’t appear anywhere relating to the timing cover

Thanks! I was wondering why it appears on the parts diagram under the Jet adaptors not the timing housing, but listed for 200Tdi Defender, TD and NA engines?
