- Who knew cows were fans of traditional Irish music? Musician Sharon Shannon found out when she played an impromptu concert for the animals. Some of the cows immediately stopped grazing as they heard Shannon's button accordion. Others join in as the cows edged closer and closer to the musician. Completely mesmerized they almost came within touching distance and one brave cow even dared to lick Shannon's leg as a thank you.
Growing up in a dairying community as I did ,I took for granted that cows liked music because the dairy farmers played music in the cowshed during milking to keep the cows relaxed and calm. Cows have a lot more to them than mere milk providers and beef producers. If they were smaller and could be toilet trained I would bet people would have them as loved pets.
Cowboys sang to the herd at night to keep them relaxed. And people do have cows as pets, nowadays it's miniature cattle.
Absolutely - exactly what I was going to say!
Dont type such comment, some people might genetically breed 'mini' cows to be domesticated pets... Oh wait..
Many people do, even as large as they are!
I live in a rural area, so lots of cows around. I tried playing TH-cam videos of 'cows listening to music' on my phone a few times. Sometimes they mostly ignore it, or just look up and then carry on grazing, but one time a group of young steers were very interested and curious - they literally came and stood in a row in front of me by the fence and listened and stared and mooed. 😂 (Even though my phone speakers are not very loud, compared to actually playing live music, but I guess it was loud enough for them to hear and get curious?)
Was waiting for the cows to start step dancing.
cows will dance to disco...not this trash
me too! :D That was sheer pleasure to see & hear. Thank-you
Jajajajajajajaja you made my day …thanks !
Cows aren’t the best dancers!!!😁. And they run funny too - but they are sweet!
or singing along with moos!!
Cows are surprisingly receptive to performances. Many years ago, our friends from England invited us to go on holiday with them. They rented a farmhouse in Wales. After a few days, I found myself with the sniffles one morning. I opted to stay behind and rest while my family and our friends went on an excursion. With nothing to do and finding myself all alone, I started playing a guitar I found in the farmhouse. When I looked up from my seat in the back garden, I found myself facing a wall of cows from the neighboring farm, just calmly looking on. I strolled over to sing while playing the guitar. I couldn’t carry a tune, mind you, but I seem to have had an appreciative audience all the same.
Oh, so you MUST be a vegetarian?
@@christopherp.hitchens3902 Bait use to be believable.
@@christopherp.hitchens3902man shut up
The audience was udderly blown away!
That's a terribull pun.
Guys cut the bull
I was so mooooved by this comment!
Because they HERD the music.
@@Yukifnyu You don't have to have a cow. You're being a bully.
I was riding a horse and singing and a flock of sheep left their grazing and came up to the fence to listen. Clearly they are not very discerning music lovers (!), but they were interested. Humans are incredibly arrogant when they think we are the only species that appreciated beauty. One of my horses was clearly in awe of a stunning view from the top of a hill the first time he saw it. He stood with ears pricked and gazed at it and I had to pull him from it, in just the way a human would need to to urged to continue a journey.
Yes ! There us a utube video somewhere that shows a man playing a piano in the tropics to an elephant who clearly likes the classics!
Wow Thanks for sharing that. I think most critters are sweeter & smarter than we give em credit for. What would we do without them!! ✌️
My grandfather used to have music playing in the milking barn. The cows gave more milk that way.
I remember reading a study sometime in the 1970's, seems they gave the most milk listening to mambo music, same for chickens laying eggs.
Cows do love music people. It's actually a beautiful thing. Humans aren't the only creatures that appreciate music.
I played old hindi film songs, the cows got angry!
@@diwakarmsg2061 lol
Cows are naturally nosey as well but I'd say they do like a nod tune
Exactly! People are so stupid; they think animals are just objects, like a table or chair. They’re thinking, feeling, emotive sentient beings so why wouldn’t they enjoy music?
When I was a kid, me and my father visited a milk farmer. He had a radio for them to listen at. He claimed they milked much better when listening to the radio.
That’s why cowboys would sing on the trail… to keep the animal calm and relaxed.
A cowboy’s so called singing would only agitate the herd!!!
Ragtime cowboy joe!
All animals have feelings of joy, happiness, love, sad, hurt…treat them well…
Cows are super curious, social and totally underrated! Oh and they love music - including "singing" 😂😉
I was once hiking in the alps when I met a herd of cows. While resting I started singing which they liked so much that they followed me afterwards. I was singing the whole song and figured out, that one cow chimed in at a certain part and another one at the refrain. Just a few humming noises and then me singing alone again. It was totally fantastic!!
So we sang the song together for a few times until the next fence segregated us. ❤😂🤩
@mizzwitty, How about bring "the cows choir" on the road and sell the chocolate at the intermission? Instead of all the depressing stuff we could bring to the world good "moos"...think how people would dump FOX. BBC and CNN. All we need is a "sponsor" and we are onto a "win, "win, as it were. We could sell the natural manure as well and benefit the planet as opposed to the bulls#it we get from the "leaders." No. I propose we do it as a charity and bring the cows into a proper place in the world. If you are, as they in England game, let's have a serious look at the possibilities. I know of a famous accordionist who plays to the cows in Ireland and maybe, could be persuaded to add an air or two. There is a problem with "fences" particularly around the mind.
This is the most dignified, respectful, eloquent, sensitive, and mesmerized audience one can get. Cows are so adorable! It is fascinating to see how much music instantaneously captivate them. Thank you for sharing this touching moment. Animals deserve our best.
Well presented herd, a credit to the farmer.
A concert for cows, and such an appreciative audience.
Cows are our friends.....show them love.
under-rated comment 🐄
You can't befriend a steak.
Certain Indians used to thank the game they killed for giving their life to feed them. God gave us animals for food (Genesis 9:3), but that doesn't mean we should disrespect them or fail to appreciate them.
@@janelowe5223 Animals may be sentient beings but some classify as food.
Don’t we all gather at a free outdoor concert? Moooooo - Yes! ❤
Cows are curious about everything!!!❤
That indicates they have more brain power than we give them credit for.
As it is written... even King Saul's mood changed when David played the stringed instrument to him
6 years. 170 comments (as of today 17/4/24) and no-one, *no-one* has said Nice *moosic.*
🤯
They have now:) nice one😆
😂😂😂👍
Nice moosic.
Cows are fascinated by music. I grew up on a dairy farm and we always had music playing in the milk house.
Irish cows. Common to see them enjoy a pint or two at the local pub.
We have quite a few two-legged cows in my town who gather regularly at local pubs.
@mviv6339
I wanted to up vote you but since it was on 69, I've left it interact. 😂
Farmer: “where’s my cows gone?”
Almost expected them to start dancing, so I did!
So did I!
cows are the best audience , they love music, its amazing.
If I had a farm I’d blast my music for my cows
They're such a good audience
My great grandfather used to play his accordion to his cows too. They loved it ❤❤
I think a lot of animals appreciate music, my cats always come and sit with me whenever I play piano
Everybody wants to a jazz cat
Cows ar beatifull and should be treated with kindness
Cows can be very curious animals. 😊
@elisaa9981, Which is, seriously, more than one can say about the present crop of "humans" who seem to have world "imprisoned'...mentally that is. And I specifically mean the so called "democracies" in the largest open air asylum on the planet.
I remember my uncle would always play the radio when he milked his cows. It kept them calm.
Brilliant. I have known cows enjoying music before. When we first moved into our home there were cows in the back field and when we had the radio on in the garden the cows would hang their heads over the fence.
My old dog would come in my room every time I started playing my acoustic guitar. She would lay on the floor and sit there listening for an hour. She loved it.
That is literally wonderful.
Those lucky cows!! Sharon Shannon is AMAZING! Saw her years ago in NYC.
I milked cows for 11 years when I was younger, and the do love music. Their calves are even more fun & each cow/calf has their own personality =)
I love watching the cows enjoying the music !!!! 🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄🎶🐄

me too 🐄
Cows and other animals do love music! My 2 terriers sleep under my harp or piano when I am playing! Love this!❤
How could they resist such beautiful playing?
So with this latest discovery, we know there’s exactly one species that enjoys listening to an accordion.
LMAOOOOOO
@@momentarylapse1362 lmooooo😂
Classic Jon Arbuckle type🤣
YEAH quit eating them! so they can enjoy it
People of discernment also appreciate the accordion.
Happy and appreciative cows.. Lovely reaction
They did The Wave at 00:44.
I love cows they are so curious. The melody was wonderful too!
Just shows that MUSIC IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE!!
SO FUN!! 😊
Cows are awesome beings! LOVELY, THY!
Cows are sentient beings who know the beauty of music💖
No, they're not. They'll even put up with my playing.
Right. That's why they, too, invented musical instruments and play in bands when we're not looking. They also invented recording and stereo equipment so the less musically inclined could play recordings of music. Indeed.....sentient.
Evidently.
@@lonzo61 And it's their fault their physiology, their lack of opposable thumbs, makes all of that impossible.
Ohhhhh hurry its our favorite Irish jig and a one and a two ,left first right foot second .
ha ha!!
I am a friendly Friesian and I can tell you your music was outstanding in this field.
They are better listeners then some people … so cute !
Cattle are exteremly curious by nature. This is why, when someone walks on a footpath through a field with cattle in they often come running over. It si NOT as the media claims, cattle will attack you (unless there is a bull in the field or a mother and her calf), you are some thing new to them and they want to come and investigate you. Couple this with Sharons fantastic playing and they are mesmerised.
That's beautiful beautiful cows
Priceless
They all loved that skilled musician!
Cows are suckers for music! I mountain bike ride in areas with free range cattle, and I have a Sirius Sat radio with a external speaker. Anytime I come across a group, I'll stop, crank up whatever music I'm listening to (blues channel usually) and get off the bike and walk away a bit. They listen and are curious for sure, but I have to admit, you and your playing got a stronger response than I have ever gotten!
🤩this lovely music makes everyone happy and the cows make such a great audience❤
A cow concert! Love it. In Iowa, USA, a local dairy farm plays music for the cows, too. Got to smile! 😊
Very respectful audience
Cows are so cool!!
What a peaceful sight
Love cows!
Cows: “That was udderly fascinating! Very moooooving! A real hoof-tapper!”
I adore cows.
I love cows they are very observant animals
And next week she will teach the cows an Irish jig.
Thank you for sharing this lovely video 🥰
The most amazing concert!
They were mesmerized ! Wow..awsome!
You have a captive audience!
They would probably love it as a regular thing. They're beautiful animals.
Cows love a good Irish shanty
It's the frequency. Like a whistle.
The nice things about cows that you even don’t have to be that good. They just like the music
Very cute the ladies!
Not surprised with the cool tunes!
cows love their music!
Aawww… they loved it!! How sweet.
There was a dairy farmer( about 12-15 years ago) who decided to put waterbeds in of his cow's stalls. They were so happy they produced 15-20% more milk! I bet they'd produce even more if serenaded e ery evening lol.
The best music this herd has ever heard 😂😂😂 If I was there I’d certainly be listening 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Its wonderful.
Our cows favorite album was Pink Floyd , Atom heart mother. We played them all kinds of stuff in the winter while everyone is in the barn for months.
there was a study that showed certain music , helped them relax and it improved milk production.
How can you not like that music?
That was really precious. ❤
Hi Sharon wow it's amazing
That is awesome thanks for sharing 😮😊
Cows will listen to just about any type of music.
I love cow and music! This is amazing
Videos showing how cows like music are so pleasant; clearly they like it!
Amazing cows, friends,never never food
Too short! I could listen to Shannon for hours (and have)!
Awesome...... Cows with Class!
I just love it. Wonderful
I wonder what their reaction would be if they heard music by the Cowsills ....😁😂😅😄
Cows have better taste than top 40 music fans lol
Irish cows are so beautifully tended, and their milk’s so rich that skim tastes like whole!
They loves it
This is why Irish butter tastes better!
I've seen wild turkeys come to a radio..and seem quite appreciative.
Music, the universal language.
That's the cutest thing ever!
Outstanding.
Many dairies have radio blaring away at 5 in the morning in the parlor. Lights on radio on !
That was just cool😊😊😊
