From my experience as an enlisted Marine, I just have a few comments about the crunches to help you get max every time. First, your partner should be sitting on your feet with their legs out to your side and they hold the inside of your knee and pull towards their chest. When they hold like that, you start doing crunches with your butt as close to your heels as you can and as you start to get tired you scoot your butt away from the heels to work your abs in a different spot to maintain stamina. Second, and this is important, your partner who is counting your reps needs to help you out when the verifier isn’t watching by skipping numbers. Counters often go “23,24,35,36,37,48...”
Can confirm. Best way to max out your crunches is to have a Marine count for you. 1-2-3-5-7-9-10-15-16-17-18-19-30-31-32-33-44-45-46-57-68-69-80-100. Good job Marine.

Good job guys, I was in the Marine Corps, the run would be extremely hard to remember your number of laps. When we did those tests we did not do them on a track, we did it on a road and when we got to the 1.5-mile point there was a person there to tell us to turn around
27:46 I feel when the camera is on magnus has just one speed/plan and it is "Go!". That's as far as the plan goes, injuries don't matter and pain is just a bonus. I could probably conquer the world with just 10% of his drive.
Do you have a source on this? I don't really do either since both involve a repeated spinal flexion, but it seems to me you can still keep your spine sort of neutral during situps whereas you have to really bend it a lot during crunches. Thoughts?
@@Hoehihoh There have been some test done where they measured the pressure on the disks during flexion and showed higher levels of force on the disks. I saw that from Bob and Brad PTs but i don't think flexion of the spine is horrible for you unless you have underlining issues or injures. I prefer static work for core as it has better carry over to other sports, crunches are good for hypertrophy of the abdominal wall. I do Jefferson Curls and some people would say there bad but if you have the stability in your spine then its a fine movement, life rarely has barbells and pull up bars its a lot of unstable positions so you need to be stable in those.
Marine Corps’ fitness test has changed since I was a Marine 35 years ago. When we did sit-ups, you had to clasp your hands behind your neck and your head had to break the plane of your knees at the top or it didn’t count. That’s much harder, but probably not very good on the body. Fun to watch all the same! Y’all actually did great on the run. I know that feeling of wanting to vomit too well. 🤮
@@aidanschram9652 It's not hard for him, by any means. He didn't even slow down after 23, he could have easily added another 5 while still being within the minute.
For the crunches you were doing way more effort Magnus, I'd say at least 2x-3x the effort of not going all the way down. so Imma multiply your score by that you got like 250 marine crunches.
Marte, I watched the two videos for Army and Navy and you may not have won but you would kick my ass in those tests so well done. Remember you hang with some extra fit people.
Just want to comment for the next Seal PST video: Make sure to include the proper rest times. That's what makes the standards significantly harder than just the exercises alone. Looking forward to the next one!

Magnus, Marte, and Marcus, hereby known as M Cubed, are the only people I know who willingly will do a US Military Fitness Test for fun 🤣 I didn't even want to do the APFT when I was in the army!
Your fitness is unreal Magnus. I'd love to see you do "The Murph". Its a workout named after Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy who was given the US Military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his action in Afghanistan. It consists of running 1 mile followed by 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and finished with another mile. All while wearing a 20 lb vest. Many people across the US do this on Memorial Day to show respect of his (as well as all fallen military members) sacrifice. I think you would do well and it'd be great to see.
I started doing the murph every sunday for 7 weeks now, as well as keeping my regular weights workouts during the week. I did the first 3 without any weighted vest as well as using the assisted pull up knee weight, and now that I'm on week 8 I've been using a backpack with 20 pounds in it and regular pull ups and it has increased my overall fitness by a ton. Whenever I feel like going slower or taking off my backpack I think about what Lt. Murphy went through and it is a serious motivation. Also I do it in increments of 1 mile, 20 sets of 5 pullups, 10 push-ups and 15 squats, and then end with the last mile so its definitely easier to do than doing all pushups at once and vice versa. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for that extra challenge in their weekly training, before I started it I could do maybe 50 push-ups in 2 minutes and now I'm at 101 in 2 minutes so it helps with growing strength and endurance tremendously.
As a Marine, I can tell you they are trying way too hard with the sit ups. They should cruntch more and use their abs, which curls your spine and allows your arms to reach your legs easier. They are like the easiest situps in the world. I've always been able to hit the max within the first minute. The pullups oth are the most difficultly judged, your elbows have to be completely locked out when your down.
Spit Fire situps are not bad for posture considering that the core is what holds your posture. You need a good core to maintain correct posture for a while.
Bro you are tough. You are learning and growing. I love your videos. Keep on thriving Magnus. I tell my ninja warrior students about you all the time. I tell them with their parent's permission of course to check out your videos. Thank you for these vlogs my Norwegian brother. Cheers

16:40 for 4,428 meters (3 miles minus a lap) is equivalent to 18:17 for 3 miles [there are 4 well established mathematical methods for calculating equivalent performances, run-down.com/statistics/calcs_explained.php, and they all come up with an 18:17]. The mathematical formulas basically factor in how much each lap affects your tiredness, and hence your equivalent performance over the longer distance given your tiredness. Now that said, there is no doubt in my mind that with the experience of this run under his belt he could easily pace himself to hit the required 1:29.0 lap splits to break 18min. Dude, Mangus, you shocked me. Guys with as much muscle mass as yourself rarely have that kind of running endurance [it takes a lot of extra energy to carry that kind of muscle mass for 3 miles]. 18:17 is a legit time, even for a thin guy who runs every freaking day for many years. Super props for that equivalent performance!!!
@@wss33 I was just letting people know that there are scientific methods for converting times, better than just conservatively adding 2 minutes. Obviously, as my post stated, he did not actually run an 18:17, just saying 18:17 is the equivalent time in terms of "goodness."
Not sure if it has changed since 2004 when I discharged from the marines. But women did not do pull ups for their strength test. They had to do the 3 mile run, the crunches, and instead of pull-ups women did a timed flex arm hang. Basically they do 1 pull up get their chin above the bar and have to hold it there as long as possible. Their time stopped when they are back down to straight arms. I forget the needed time to qualify. I know we used to make jokes and said it was harder to do the flexed arm hang then it was to do the 20 pull ups. Thats another thing I noticed. The minimum pull-ups when I was in was 3 for anyone and points maxed out at 20 pull-ups. Of course they could have changed the pft qualifying parameters since I got out.

I'd love to see you try Marine Combat Fitness Test(CFT) too. A bit more to set up, but it's quicker overall. As a Marine, you did extremely well for someone who doesn't really train any of these things. Props.
I'm a Marine Veteran, the Marine fitness test is to just ensure you're not "out of shape". By no means does it mean you are "elite" compared to other military branches. If you are at least "athletic" before the military, you'll pass the Marine fitness test. The goal is to get the average person at an "even" fitness standard. I would say if you scored a "perfect" not in the military, usually 10% of the Marines score "perfect". So you would fall into that fitness range within the Marines. The rest usually are in the 25% range of "perfect", it's mainly the run that most Marines struggle with. Furthermore, you'll have different career fields. Possibly a Marine who is has less of a technical field to one who is hard pressed to understand and perform theoretical electrical/electronic career field. And no hate to my other fellow Marines. But I would say the more elite have the brain smarts and a strong physical fitness. Not to use these two separations because I've met very physically fit and smart Marines who have "dumb" jobs. This furthers superiority in my opinion. Good job though to you three. You guys did a great job!

Man, you guys had better form than we do when we do the fitness test every year lol. Almost no one does pullups that strict (but they're supposed to)
Good job guys, I was in the Marine Corps, the run would be extremely hard to remember your number of laps.
Magnus' pace even if he cheated a lap is around a 6 min/mile pace.. wtf
yeah his time would’ve been around 18:10-18:20 which is still pretty good i think
there's no way he ran that, i just dont believe that. they dont run ever and he runs 3miles at 6 pace?
@@hunterdarkt9923 Deffo faked it, which is kinda sad considering that he did all other challenges perfect
@@hunterdarkt9923 its not that hard for an athlete
@@terr0rsandwich have you seen the episode where i attempts a marathon on a greek island with no training?
Just FYI ab crunches are far better for your spine than full situps and still work the abs just as much.
Facts
They don't work most of the muscles in the core like sit-ups do, but still probably is better for some yeah
Hallow body holds and l sits are far superior for core strength then crunching.
Sees shinny climbing hold:
Every person: that's a cool hold!
Magnus: Sex toy!!!
LITERALLY THE ONLY GUY on TH-cam that you can see does pull-ups the RIGHT WAY!
i know i did pull ups wrong when i tried out for climbing team
I’m a marine man and you did better pull ups than 80% of our people! Nice job
Definitely a lot more than 80%
Magnus seems to get injured every videos... it's getting bad xD
everything for view count.

those little scratches are considered an injury? lol

you miss the point. he means its hard, but not for him
@@aayovery Oh im sure it was hard for him but that doesnt mean he can't do it

That's because he's a cybernetic organism sent through time for the sole purpose to make everyone feel inadequate.

The little details in the video such as 3d fonts and video shots in between talking makes it super profesional. Keep it up Markus!
thank you for noticing!
this is so interesting. Man, please continue with such content!
Finally a climbing video ❤️
Haven't been to this channel for a good while. Holy shitballs 680k subscribers man!
“ it is considered bad technique... but it’s very effective” 😂
I'd love to see the crew back together doing a super tough fitness challenge similar to this. Tom, juji,Anton and Devon alongside you guys of course. I think that would make a nice vid. See some slight competition and have a nice atmosphere to it.
Would love to see you do a proper outdoor project like the old days
Mattdoesfitness and Magnus collab some day is my universes colliding!
That would be awesome!

Man u ran so well! Very impressive, as always!
Seeing you guys laugh together when she cant do the sit ups is the most wholesome thing:) love it
Magnus, Marte, and Marcus, hereby known as M Cubed, are the only people I know who willingly will do a US Military Fitness Test for fun 🤣 I didn't even want to do the APFT when I was in the army!
Have you heard of the cunt workout its where you sprint 50.000 Miles, do 13.000 pushups as well as pull ups and then shit in your dogs mouth
And as far as kipping goes, I have had to redo so many "failed" pull ups that it's not funny.
i i idk how you’re doing your sit-ups lol
@@__-rb9st do they? i heard they are bad for posture, not necessarily damaging the spine directly.
Spit Fire situps are not bad for posture considering that the core is what holds your posture. You need a good core to maintain correct posture for a while.
@@Sak-zo1ui Good posture comes a lot from back muscles. Sit ups are bad if you don't train your back equally
Bro you are tough. You are learning and growing. I love your videos. Keep on thriving Magnus. I tell my ninja warrior students about you all the time. I tell them with their parent's permission of course to check out your videos. Thank you for these vlogs my Norwegian brother. Cheers
Ge said he's out of shape, meanwhile most men r trying all their life to achieve a physique like his

Wow can we all take a moment to appreciate how strong Marta is ? As a female who train regularly I can say this is really impressive!!! Congrats Marte!
He didn't actually run that time.
18:17 without running training suggests he would be a world class runner if he trained for it.
@@beboshi69 Let's not go overboard. It's an awesome result, showing amazing fitness, but world-class is 12 - 13 minutes. Those guys were running 13:30 before they graduated high school.
18:18 Magnus' fast forwarded situps is so frame cut and jerky it looks like a Tool music video.

She would actually do better then most of the females I've seen. You guys/gal are fun to watch, thank you.
I like that magnus doesn't care abt minor injuries like scrapes.
I'm guessing that he will begin to care, the older you get, the slower that stuff goes away.
You can achieve a lot when you can push through the pain.
i mean as a rock climber your always getting minor injuries so hed be use to bandaging them up

This is awesome guys! I am a Marine vet and when I was in my prime shape in the Marine Corps I did 2 300/300 PFTs. I did 29 pullups before they made me get off the bar, and the best time running the 3 miles was 17:45 and the second was right at 18:00, I almost died sprinting the last 100 meters in around 11 secs. You getting 18 mins and some change on your first try was spectacular. Good stuff guys!
