    The Lincoln is a prime example of what should be done to Panther cars. The other two are exactly what you’d expect from some clapped out hooptie. There are many reasons x pipes exist, my favorite is that they eliminate the rocks beating around in a metal bucket sound of two 4 cylinders welded together fighting each other to the death.

    Panther body cars can sound good if done right. Unfortunately all three of these are a swing-and-a-miss.
    The Lincoln should have kept the h pipe and deleted the factory resonators on the tail pipes. Outside of that it is the best sounding of the three. The Mercury it's missing its rear catalytic converters and there is no h or x-pipe. The only thing I see good on a Crown Victoria are the tailpipes. Still didn't find any Panther body exhaust here with installing. Now if the Lincoln Town car comes back to replace its h-pipe then we might hear something nice...

  • @FiveBoroNative

    That Town Car was classy and not too loud.
    I might have gone with an H-pipe to give it a more classic sound, but it still sounded good. Just a little more sporty than I would've expected.
    Well done.
    The Grand Marquis and Crown Vic need mufflers. Period.
    The Vibrants on the Mercury cleaned up the sound, but not in a good way (it took away the sweet parts of the tone, but left the card in spokes crackling) and you really notice it after hearing the throatiness of straight pipes on the Crown Vic.
    Maybe try putting a slightly louder version of what you put on the Town Car with H-pipes on those two other cars.

Unfortunately I still can't justify owning one until I'm about 70 years old it's the eternal gramps car to me. But 70 year old me will strait pipe it and piss off the 90 percent of people that will be driving EV's by then... (If you can still by gasoline then)

    Now im just saying. I think that it was pointless of the high flow cat being in the rear if the factory front cats are still in line.... yes, understanding that the Panther platform Computers monitors the front or, aka the main catalytic converters only. You should have just cut the rear cats out and left the rest on like that.

      I converted my grand marquis and I had a single. All new dual exhaust pipes stainless steel, H-pipe, magnaflow mufflers, and labor rang a total of $1000 at a quality exhaust shop. A lot of money spent only for my magnaflows to be too quiet for my liking.

    Little tip (pun not intended) All fords with either the 4.6, 5.4, 5.0L H.O (pushrod, not the coyote) if you're going to straight pipe them should have the crossover (H or X). Obviously a dual in any form is better than a single but the reason why they come like that is because the V8's all use the same firing order as the 5.0L HO 302 windsor (which is 351W 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8). It's because 1 and 3 fire consecutively on the same side of the engine and so do 6 and 5. The crossover is so that the second cylinder fire will bleed into the other exhaust pipe to equalize the pressure and hence create high rpm exhaust flow. GM LS's on the other hand don't have that problem. Their firing order is always from one side to the other. People put X pipes on them anyway but they aren't necessary. I think old LT1's from the 90's also have a more or less perfectly balanced firing order.

    • @collinhensley3760
      @collinhensley3760 ปีที่แล้ว

      All crossplane crank v8s fire unevenly side to side. The only US flat plane crank V8s are the C8 z06 and the Voodoo GT350 to my knowledge.

    • @BoardwalkBullies
      @BoardwalkBullies ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@collinhensley3760 incorrect. What do you think they made the h pipe for, to just give away some extra metal? You never wondered why it's strictly a Ford thing? It takes minimal research to find out.

    • @howieewalt1322
      @howieewalt1322 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I have a 96 Ford Thunderbird with the 4.6 non-pi motor (has PI intake manifold though). It's got just under 80k miles.
      It's got the rear mufflers deleted and glasspacks in place. So it's still the single pipe, and at the end after the rear axle it Y's into dual. It's a nice rumble and did the job when I first got the car, but now I'm ready for more.
      I plan to complete the PI swap, install a nice TC and JMOD the transmission. Finally I'd like a nice tune put on.
      Would you suggest true duals with a quality X-Pipe and High-flow cats? I think I like the glasspacks where they are at. I don't want the loudest in terms of clap/rasp, but I would like to play into the 4.6's already beastly gurgle as I think that is the best part of it's exhaust note.

    • @BoardwalkBullies
      @BoardwalkBullies ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@howieewalt1322 you can't have too much exhaust with MN12's. If you can get your hands on the Kooks mid length headers as well then more power to you. You can do a true dual setup on those with the mufflers in the middle (I had one, 96 cougar) you just have to offset them but the tunnel underneath has enough room.

    • @sleeper.simulant7327
      @sleeper.simulant7327 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dual’s aren’t necessarily better then a single, a properly placed/sized Y pipe will have the same effect as a X pipe, it’ll create a scavenging effect. Dual 2.25” exhaust will flow the same as dual 2.25” to a single 3” Y. Making sure the runners to the Y are equal length will also make a massive difference, as each exhaust pulse enters the Y, it’ll create a vacuum helping draw the next pulse out…
