- Urmar Tanda is a town and municipal council in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, India.
In the 2001 Indian census,Urmar Tanda's population contained 22,115 people, of whom 52% of them were male and 48% were female. Urmar Tanda has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the 59.5% national average. The literacy rate suggests there are gender differences in education with male literacy at 77% but female literacy at 71%. 11% of the population are under 6 years of age
Urmar Tanda has a variety of tourist attractions such as Shimla Pahari Park; Shri Mahadev Mandir; Ram Mandir Ahiyapur; Jahara Peer; Gurudwara Pull Pukhta Sahib; Gurudwara Tahli Sahib;Bheem Mandir; Baba 'Jathere baba kamuana ji...saini(gehlan), every year they organise a akhand paath in june, thousands of peoples around the world gather to pray to sri guru granth sahib ji
Urmar Tanda is situated on NH-1A highway. The city has various railway and road links. State highways connect it to nearby cities such as Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Shri Hargobindpur and Dasuya. Urmar Tanda also has roads linking to Amritsar, Pathankot and Hajipur. It is on the junction of Chandigarh to Gurdaspur, Pathankot road and Pathankot to Jalandhar Road.
This city has been linked with Sikh Guru Har Gobind sahib Ji, the sixth guru in the history of the Sikhs, who visited various places such as village Pull Pukhta, and village Munak Kallan where he is said to have tied his horse and stayed for several days. This city has also linkage with Bhima of the Pandavas who briefly stayed in village Jaja. Legend states that Bhima killed a giant (or demon) named Bakasura who had been troubling the villagers.

Thank you very much for this video. This is my father's village. My mother's uncle Ghulam Muhammad Zaildar lived In Tanda. We were landlord of Tanda and Urmar. My mother parents lived in kainthaya dasuha. My mother's real uncle Muhammad Hussain and Mohammad Hassan were zaildar while my mother's father Qutab Shan Khan was Numberdar of Kaintha. We were also landlord this area. Mostly These area was of Pathan Families. Thank for this noble act. I shall never forget my villages in India till my death.

Phillip - This was my grandfather's home town - His name was Jan Mahomed. He had two brothers - Ghulam and Shah Mahomed. My grandfather migrated to Australia ca 1920. When in India I visited the family home in Urmah Tanda in 1974 with the help of Mohindah Singh Sardu who was then chief of Air India at Jullunda. Is there anyone who may have heard of this family or its history in Tanda? Kindest regards -

@@brindersahota6141 Good to know veer jee. My father is alive. He is 91. Though he has now some problems with short term memory, he still know each and everything about his birthplace and the partition. Actually we had two villages both of Rajputs; my father is from pind kharal khurd (chottian kharalan) and mother was from pind kharal kalan (waddian kharlan). During migration many of our elders were killed in riots or drowned in the river Bias. There are many sad stories 😢 which my father usually recalls.
@@PakPunjabi my grandmother told us so many stories. Her memory was so good. She lives in Canada now. She is too old now and has lost her momory. I wish if she was able to tell me about hwr past time. My grand parents were from mahilpur then moved to I think Montgomery.
@@brindersahota6141 The people from our village settled in different cities of Punjab like Lylpur, Gojra, Toba Tek Singh, Montgomery and Multan. I am from Multan but I was born in a village of Montgomery district as my Nana jee lived there. My elder son also lives in Canada. He got direct PR in 2018 under express entry program. He is now an employee of CRA and a part time teacher at Dalhousie University Halifax NS.
