    Very good review hitting a lot of the new features and how to apply them. I bought my Z6III the first day it came out to replace the original Z6 due to the frustrating auto focus. This camera backs up my Z9 and I’m so happy I can just about set up both cameras the same so it’s seamless to go from one to another during an event. I really hope Nikon is listening to some of your suggestions cause you’re spot on. Gonna check some of your other videos now.

    You can already do the autofocus style you are asking.Just assign your back button to your most instinctive and trusted af mode and then assign your shutter to 3D or customize C1 or C2 the size you felt appropriate and assign to the shutter button or the af on button.
    Though I will love nikon to bring the "switch af" that is found in the Z8 and 9 to the Z6iii.

      @@leonmullingscreative on Z8 and Z9 you can assign a button to switch among the af area modes you selected . Example you can add single point ,3D and C1 to the list of af area modes you want that button to switch among ,with a press of a button you can cycle them all without rotating any dial .

    Nice video - a few comments though:
    With respect to your criticism that the eye track should take over one you put the box on the person there is a reason that this does NOT happen. That is because the point of the box is to be able to quicly select different targets - if the box disappeared and the eye tracking took over you would not be able to switch to another target easily.
    What you are looking for is the use of subject detect with 3D tracking mode as you do later in the video. In 3D tracking with subject eye detect turned on you can select a target with the box and then the eye detect will take over until you let off the AF/shutter button - in this way you can select a target and then let the eye detect track around the frame.
    What you have described is not a bug - it is a feature and a good one.
    Also, you can set function buttons all over the camera to activate any AF focus mode including 3D - so if you want 3D to activate when you hit OK you can - it is much better to do this with the AF ON button however - then the shutter button can be ALL Area which you can immediately override with the AF ON button.

      Thank you for your comment! I tried to set it up for the OK button, and it didn't work.
      Tracking around the whole frame: I absolutely understand that is why 3D tracking is, but I find that the 3D tracking box is quite small. On Sonys at least you can configure it's size (S, M, L).
      If I use the Custom box on the Nikon Z 6 III, I was expecting the camera to track the found eye as long as I was holding halfway down the shutter button (or Af-ON). If I want to find a new target, I would just lift my finger off.
      Anyways, to me it was surprising, because Canons track the subject around the whole frame even in custom Area AF mode.

      @photographydiscourse1185 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@miklosmayerphoto Understood - I see what you are saying. The put the 3D box on the subject and then eye detect will take over all over the screen, but you are saying that the 3D box is too small for your liking - I understand what you are saying now.
      Still, I am not sure why you would want to use the OK button when using the shutter with the AF ON and/or Disp buttons are much more ergonomic, but of course to each their own.
      Overall, very good work on the review!

    This is a good review. I have the Z50 and, for my needs, the autofocus works well enough in most cases. I don't generally focus on fast moving subjects, so my needs are pretty basic. I really need high MPs for wildlife, but Z6iii has some cool features that I'd love to have(except for the screen, I love the Z8 screen more). My Z5 will become backup and travel camera. BTW at 14:30 your shots are less in focus because of the lens. That's why there is 70-200 F2.8 S lens it has better AF motor. 70-180 has slower AF motor from the tests.

    Hello Sir. Please if it is possible can you make a full review of the Nikon FTZ Mark II adapter, on TH-cam no one has a real informative review of this product. it will be interesting to see how F-mount lenses from any brand can perform on a Nikon Z mount Camera, how accurate the autofocus is how fast is it, and so on. I think it will be interesting for a lot of people because right now a lot of people are considering buying a Nikon mirrorless camera but Nikon does not offer affordable Z-mount lenses and also there are no real good alternative lenses from other brands like Sigma or Tamron. for example, you can find a lot of perfect lenses for Sony E mount like the latest Sigma24-70mm f/2.8 mark II lens. to make a long story short You know better than me that you can find a lot of good half-price lenses for E mount but not for R mount or Z mount and there are a lot of people including myself want to know if we can buy Nikon Mirrorless camera and adapt F mount lenses without any problem with FTZ adapter and be happy.

    Thank you for the excellent review. I was blown away by the Z8's ability to track the border collie's face in your other video. I was expecting (hoping) close to same performance by the Nikon Z6III, but was somewhat taken aback by what you were able to show from your video, as the autofocus seemed a bit erratic / was initially slow to find the dog's face. The fact that the dog's eyes are not as clearly visible as in the Z8 video may impact this.
    Have you had the chance to do any more testing or gain additional experience in this regard? I am looking to upgrade from Nikon Z6, and taking pictures of dogs running (usually straight towards the camera) is one of my favorite sort of pictures to take. And this is an absolute chore with the Z6, which required single point focusing with unreliable results. It seems the Z8 is well capable of this, but I am just wondering how short the Z6 III will fall from the Z8s performance. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I'm still a bit confused about all of the autofocus options, and maybe there is an idea for another video or two here.
    One question I have is if it's faster and easier to use User Profiles settings instead of custom buttons to switch focus modes?
    I'd love to hear the pros and cons of doing that, if it's possible to do that.
    For me, I mostly shoot street photography (people, sometimes 1-3 in frame, sometimes more) and then landscapes and architecture.
    Would it make sense to just have one User Profile for single-point autofocus, where not much is moving in the frame and where I pick the focus point and then re-compose, and then to have U2 be "I need to track a moving object" that has 3D tracking on, with human-face recognition?
    Also, would love to see a video about using the camera display to select a focus point. Isn't that faster in some cases?
    Would also like to see a discussion of when or if to use the joystick vs locking focus by pressing shutter halfway down. When do you use the joystick?

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question!
      You can of course do that with User Profiles. But there are so many other things you can also assign to User Profile (WB, drive mode, file formats, metadata, exposure settings, etc)... So I think it would be a waste to assign User Profiles just to have different AF points / zones.
      Instead, you can set one of the customisable buttons to cycle between AF zones / points.
      So for example, you have full Area AF, but then you press the Fn button and it jumps to 3D. Then you press the Fn button and it jumps to single AF point.
      In the Menu you can select which AF area modes the Fn button would cycle between.
      I hope this helps!

      also at 10:30 the option you want is 3d tracking, where you choose an eye with a small af box and it tracks it (in 3d) across everything. This is an awful review, you have no idea how to even use the camera properly. 3D is for tracking in good light, AF Wide S or one of the custom areas with 1x1 size is for tracking low light subjects. You need to know camera settings and how to use it before you form your opinions, wether they be positive or negative

      @miklosmayerphoto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eldengard23 I tried exactly that setting, and it didn't work. I have screen recording of it, but didn't include in the video not to bore people. On the Z6 III this setting is only available if you tap on the screen - something that pulls you out from taking photos, costing seconds.
      Believe me, after 9 years of doing private photo tours for more than 800 photographers, I've used every camera out there, and know their quirks.

    I have Z6ii. Is Z6iii dynamic range worse? Indoor video is my priority

      I haven't tested dynamic range in video, sorry

    • @andersistbesser
      @andersistbesser 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Z6iii is worse. It has dynamic range of a apsc camera and even a micro four thirds camera like lumix gh7 is a bit better in this regard. This is what comes with the partially stacked sensor z6iii has. It makes the camera fast but it kills dynamic range. Dynamic range in my opinion is good anyway but its not full frame level.

    The 70-200 is heavy and expensive. Agree. But also quite a bit better in all other aspects.
    I always enjoy your reviews. Thanks.
    If you want your canon like tracking mode make a custom size box and use 3d tracking.

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's was my "bug": 3D tracking mode in these Nikons is a separate AF Area mode, so you cannot use with the customized box.

    • @FawfulDied
      @FawfulDied 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@miklosmayerphoto The "Nikon way" is to do a little dance with AF-ON set to "AF-area mode+AF-ON" > 3D Tracking.
      First, use Wide Area AF to capture the eye. Then start holding AF-ON. 3D tracking will start tracking the eye that was captured by Wide Area AF. At this point the camera will track the eye anywhere in the frame until AF-ON is released.

    • @FawfulDied
      @FawfulDied 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@miklosmayerphoto to clarify you have to start autofocusing in Wide Area AF before performing the handoff, it isn't enough to let the camera detect the eye, the camera has to actively be tracking it

      I didn't say it's a waste. I said, don't waste your money. I know it's a tad bit better in every aspect, but the design of that lens could be so much better.
      Why couldn't Nikon make it smaller (look at the Canon RF version)? Okay, some people don't like the extending design...
      Why did they put the zoom ring where it's so uncomfortable?
