In Canada, if you paddle a lot, we often use a longer, narrower paddle for lakes, and longer distances, but a shorter, fatter blade for faster water and rapids. There are of course in between paddles, and in the end use what’s most comfortable. If you put a keel, or even multiple keels, it would be much easier to keep it straight, and I’m willing to bet it would feel less "wiggly" and unstable too. Of course manoeuvrability would be a lot less. You’re a master with that band saw, nice job.
I was imagining that after you edited the video, you went into your studio and made the background music, rocking out with your handmade synthesizer………….😉😘🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great job on the paddle. 👏👏👏👏
Great video, Felix. Good paddle for the canoe. However, your followers would like to continue enjoying your mastery for a long time to come. I say this because of how dangerously close your hands look to the saw you use. Be careful, careless with these tools do not give second chances. Cheer up with the channel and we wait for the next one. 👍😉
Felix, you cease to amaze me, all your video's are so great to watch. the best thing is you make things from almost nothing or only at a very small cost. The lesson is that the best thinks in life are free ....or almost free. I will never look at a Roof lath in the same way again 😊👍 cheers Ian
Meisterhaft mein Freund!
Nice! A kayak paddle would be best for this narrow canoe. Borrow one from your friends. You will like it. Make sure that the paddles are at 90deg to each other. Your kayak friends will explain to you why this is necessary. Love what you are doing man. Take care.
I really like the idea to use the leftovers for it and also the result, of course it had some weight compared to professional paddles but It worked like the canoe itself….much better than expected, the for sharing my friend, take care, Taro
Excellent series! I've been wanting to buy a canoe for a long time now. The expense of a new one and used one has held me up. Since I found your channel I have learned many new skills that I didn't know that I had. I think my winter project will be building a canoe. Do you think if I made the canoe wider it would make it more stable? I will keep watching you my friend . This is Marty from West Virginia in the USA
Marty, here might be a channel of interest if you are basically new to building wooden boats and don't have a sophisticated (like Felix's) toolset. It's kind of like a cross between a canoe and a kayak called the KanoYak . th-cam.com/channels/rCTQD0XcHspVJLbha0ys1w.htmlvideos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=0 About 30 years ago I built one of these KanoYaks from a similar kit out of plywood, it weighed about 75 pounds empty. It looks like Jim, the company owner has found a way to lighten them up a bit. It's not a whitewater boat, just lakes and easy rivers...a good fishing or exploring boat. It took me and my young son four days and evenings to complete it back then with mostly hand tools and electric drill, saw, & sander, plus a few days to prime and paint it. This was my first attempt at anything like this and it was a grand success. I took this all over the West (CO, NM, UT, WY, MT, SD, NE) on various lakes and rivers. After refinishing it about 12 years ago I gave it to a friend and she has enjoyed it since.
Kudos F I. From the top working down , you brought the roof down , seriously though, thanks for sharing your Design ideas, as soon as you said flat bottom. I had a. Vision of something I've been. Planning for a while .finding time has been an obstacle. You have helped me feel I must make time , so thanks again , Good luck in all you do ,,
Superbly done. As a suggestion you could think of using outriggers. They will help you with stability. Also you could make it into a removable attachment. That way depending on the conditions you can decide to add or remove the outriggers.
Amazing results from humble origins. I wonder if you could give us a bit of a tour of your favourite spots in your part of Switzerland? It always looks so very scenic. 🇨🇭 🇨🇭 🇨🇭
Ganz toll gemacht lieber Felix! 👍👍👍 Es ist immer wieder schön zu sehen, mit welchem Elan und welcher Begeisterung du an deine Projekte heran gehst!👍👍👍 Ganz liebe Grüße aus Wels in die schöne Schweiz!
Hello,Felix!I think without Victorinox you could not make the canoe and the paddel !It's a joke! In my country the boats with flat bottom are very popular. To my mind what people preferred for themself's intentions that is popular. Felix - great job!
Well done Felix. Now that you have used your paddle what, if anything, would you change on the next paddle? Really fine job making your canoe and paddle.
@@FelixImmler Your paddle is all you need to move your canoe 96 ways. Just learn how to use it and you will be a better paddler and a better man. There is an old saying in the Canoe world, "Half the paddle, twice the man". lol
Really enjoyed this, apart from the bandsaw. Love the way you were able to use the belt sander with one hand. I'm not strong enough to get the control with one hand. I was wondering how well the white wood glue is holding up? Even if you use a 'waterproof' one, the water will soften it.
Das ist Pu- Leim! Und der hält garantiert nicht gut bei solch offenen Klebefugen! Auf das Paddel würde ich definitiv nicht vertrauen! Oder halt eins als Ersatz mitnehmen.
Greetings Felix. Enjoyed viewing this excellent follow up video. Great project ! I am curious, did you ever mention what you do for your regular job ? Other than being a wonderful TH-camr.
