How to Grow Beets from Seed to Harvest

  • Beets are a cool weather crop and can be grown in fall (autumn) or in spring after the last frost. Plant Beets 1/2 in deep and 4 in apart. Row spacing should be 12 inches apart. Beets take 2 weeks to germinate and 3 months to harvest. Enjoy delicious home grown Beets! Beets leaves are also edible and can be substituted for Swiss Chad and Bok Choy. Beets that you grow yourself taste way more flavorful than any store bought turnips!

Just planted my beets after our last snow, May 23rd. Started in a drainable plastic container, and will transplant to a indoor container, as I live in an apartment. I love my plants around on a cart. My squash, lettuce, okra, and tomatoes are already up, and looking great! Thank you for your assistance in helping me grow veggies, even in an apartment. Lol.

Actually got 2 ideas here, high tunnel green house that gets tilled out each season vs aquaponics beets. My plans are to do like the native americans and use as much as i can and waste nothing. I heard they make amazing feed for cows, and im sure pigs/chickens/other farm animals can enjoy as well. (I am working on moving to homestead to control what goes into the body instead of trusting stores who dont have my best interest in mind nor tell me what actually got fed to the animals.)
Another thought would be if you could plant them around trees if shade helps them root out or not. Also do you trim the leaves to boost root growth and get free greens 4 the salads?
