      I think you are right but they still needs to acknowledge them. Especially let them know ahead and then go on and do your thing. If such is done trust me, these icons or whoever the original owners are will not complain as sir Victor is complaining. Even if the original owner not living anymore, still reach out to the family. It shows maximum respect. I think there are some that knows this but avoids it for fear the original creator might ask for a cut, as in his or her own profit. Well why not 🤷‍♂️. There is nothing wrong about that either.

      Dolapo Ogunsanlu very wrong. He used the wrong word. Intellectual property is protected the moment it is created. No registration required

    • @dolapoogunsanlu6865
      @dolapoogunsanlu6865 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seun Idowu, you are partially correct. There are many forms of intellectual property and the one you just described is copy rights which is applicable to music. However, in this case, sir Victor Uwaifo has no case because Simi's arrangement is completely different from his and that's the reason I said he didn't trade mark that word "Joromi". He should go to court. He will LOSE except he's trade marked the word 'Joromi"

    • @SeunIdowu
      @SeunIdowu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe he mixed things up a bit but he could still have a case Of he is able to prove that parts of Simi's song are similar to his. I can identify one. If you check the recent case between Robin Thicke and Marvin Gaye's family, the similarity wasn't on all fours...

      You might want to further enlighten yourself by going over the case of Marvin Gaye's family Vs Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines).

    As regards Joromi, just the use of that name is plagiarism? I really do not see the similarities in the 2 songs aside the use of the name. Will you also sue someone for naming his son Joromi?

    Copyright protection does not extend to title of songs. This is because they are mostly short do not fall under the realm of creative originality. However, if it was a hit like "Joromi" was, it then could be classified as a trademark. As such, be protected against unsolicited completion in the guidelines of a trademark law. A simple request for permission by Simi could have sufficed; then again, it is sometimes hard for honest permission seekers to be granted permission.
