Good advice, thanks for the video! The problem with the terminology "slow-growing" is that it's subjective. Some folks describe underfeeding as slow-growing, which is an unhealthy practice. Some folks describe what they do as slow-growing in contrast to power-feeding, which is just adjusting feeding to achieve good body condition. These are two entirely different feeding methods, but I've seen them both described as slow-growing.
Homeboy I’m digging your rack setups and your collection of hogs! Great information!! Whenever I acquire new hogs or Kenyan sand boas I always bump them up from pinkies to fuzzies after about 6 months of age especially if I know roughly when they hatched or live birth as Kenyans give. 👍
Great video we just got into the hobby and this is what I tell my partner the hognose want to eat when I check on them I always try to feed them two pink at a time we breed our own mice
So happy to hear that you guys are in the hobby! Yes hognose can be very food motivated at times :) thank you for the comment. I enjoy interacting with the viewers 👌
I would say I reckon I agree with YOU, that, same with all our pets, really, we should try to avoid both under, or over feeding, except during times of gravid and during pregnancy as you mention since these're specific situations, that require certain adjustments in feedin'.
I agree 💯 ty I get so sick of seeing skinny looking boas because people want to slow grow. Literally there are breeders that say they pretty much starve their males so they will breed better. my opinion if you don't want a big boa then get a small snake!!
Slow growing and starving your snake are two different things. You can slow grow a snake and it be healthy. You also have to be aware of your snakes body condition to make sure they are at a healthy weight. Hognose who naturally don’t eat only rats who have a higher fat content then frogs and toads. I fast all my snakes in winter and make sure I give them a lot of enrichment. I feed my hognose either once or twice a month but and she’s in perfect health.
Please depict what slow-growing means. I do agree that you can slow grow a snake and it can be healthy, that to me is feeding it correctly on schedule with digestive system, appropriately proportioned meal, consistency etc....... great comment thanks for the insight! you feed your hognose rats? (not saying its a bad thing, your obviously conscience about the higher fat/calorie content.)
@@Angry_Hogs I would say slow growing is feeding less frequently the every 2 week time table that is given while also being cognizant of your snakes body condition. I feed my hognose mice in the spring and fall and during the summer I give them frog repti links.
