- Shaper: A shaper is a machine tool that uses reciprocating straight line motion of the tool and a perpendicular feed of the job or the tool. By moving the work piece across the path of the reciprocating tool a flat surface is generated regardless of the shape of the tool. With special tools, attachments and devices for holding the work, a shaper can also be used to cut external and internal key ways, gears, racks, dovetails, T-slots and other miscellaneous shapes.

Very good graphics however you totally bypassed explaining about the clapper box and its function and what about a spring? What prevents the clapper box from just flopping loose?.. You did not explain that on the return stroke the clapper box pivots up to allow the tool to drag and clear the work especially in cases where it will advance sideways during the backstroke. A person not familiar with a shaper watches the video and not one thing was said about the clapper box but everyone raves about the animation which was the best in history for sure.

The main advantage of the shaper machine is it's cheap tools and short setup times.
