Awsome! Just published my first terrain last night, worked really hard on two custom structures for it to, a nice underground warehouse that you can drive trucks in and out from, and a large office building with a underground detention senter and hospital.
Really liking the series. Keep up the good work. I can definitely see more custom terrains being built specifically for whatever missions people come up with.
Hi, congratulations on your videos. I would like to ask you a couple of questions: 1) when I have finished my map, how do I use it in a scenario? 2) If I want to add buildings that are present in one of the downloadable mods, how can I do that? Thank you
For some reason every time I test my world, almost every single building consistently snaps to the water underneath the terrain, even though it was placed perfectly beforehand. When I go back to edit mode, I have to snap every building back up to the ground to fix it, but it happens every time. The 'Ocean as ground' placement option is disabled. It does not matter if I get the buildings from prefabs or resource browser, and I discovered that it only happens to buildings I've placed BEFORE reshaping any of the terrain..
One tip for painting, don’t place all paints in at once, cause then it can get confusing, especially for larger terrains. If you are working with a larger terrain, start with three or four basic textures that define the whole terrain, where everything is built on top of. Then when you add the finer details, the textures will mix nicely and will make it look much more natural and realistic. Also, don’t paint anything on the default terrain texture. Before you start painting you want to replace the default terrain texture with a texture that defines the majority of your island. For instance, if the majority color of the sat map is green, use a green texture like grass 3 coastal, or if you want a solid foundation for everything, use rock and paint everything on top of that. Once you have done a rough coverage and painted the entirety of the island, you can then add the finer details without having to worry about running into texture grid issues, where you have 5 textures on both grids making it difficult to blend the two grids together.
My grass takes the satellite image. For example, when I use (Grass_03), the color of the grass changes. Is it possible to disable this function without changing the satellite image? I would just like to have uniform grass without changing its color.
Would love to see you do a custom UI scripting tutorial at some point once you know how to use the tools for that @Griefdrums I am currently working on a terrain based out of Western Canada B.C. It's looking pretty good so far. Thanks for the amazing tutorials. Mike.
When paiting, the grass assume the satellite color, but its difficult to know what is painted or not. When you go far, it shows the stellite image, and when you get closer, you see the material. Do you know what is the key that we press to see the material painted insted of satellite colors?
So, when I import my map it looks good but the issue I’m having is my whole map is in the area that you can’t go. There’s more water then land and the land mass is all in the “out of bounds” area so to speak. How can I drag my entire piece of land ?
Not sure if this is a topic you cover but if one was to create a mainland map, and as in Arma 3 the land just continues forever, does that have to be made or does it automatically generate land once the map is exported?

I think the older way of creating the sat mask and then creating the Texture mask from it is way more intuitive than painting the entire map with a brush...I don't really consider this a step forward, this sounds like a step backward.

Mine just crashes every time I go to paint a texture. So frustrating. Update: It seems like closing the program and then reloading my project resolved the crash.
Hopefully this comment finds you. Is there a way to add assets? I’m planning on making a map and I need to have large apartments in it, but I know those assets don’t exist in the game.
can't wait for AI to knock this stuff out with the simple prompt "build me an 20sqm Island with 4 cities 2 villages 1 airstrip 1 military base" and sit back and edit what comes out
