That picture is the Angelus and in the old days farmers could hear the church bells ring at noon and would stop and pray. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could hear the church bells reminding us that God should ALWAYS have a place in our day?!
That picture went straight to my heart. So beautiful. Where I have lived all my life, we at one time had a church that rang its bells at 12 oclock every day. We still have the church but the bells haven't rang in many, many years.
This is a tradition from YEARS ago. I was born in 1954 and my brother in 1958 and on Christmas Eve we would ride around and look at Christmas lights in our little town in west Tennessee, then we would ride over to the next little town, which is Humboldt, Tn and look at all of their Christmas lights. There was a little place called The Burger Bar, the kind you just pulled up in the parking lot and walked up to a window and ordered. There was some small seating space inside, but we would sit in our car there and eat our burgers and fries. Then we would go home and get to open one gift!! Of course my brother and I were too excited to sleep waiting for Santa to come during the night!!! That was my favorite tradition!!! I’ll be 70 Friday December 13th. 🎄🎁✨❤️🍔🍟🥤💖
We had that tree topper growing up. In our family you can only drink your coffee or hot chocolate out of a Christmas mug. ❤❤❤ Have fun at your family gathering. The women’s club at our church had a Christmas party at an Italian restaurant . I made treat bags for twenty five ladies and homemade soap. Three people were sick so I gave the extra candy and the soaps to our sweet guy waiter who did an amazing job waiting on twenty two people. It was freezing cold or we would have had more people. ❤❤❤
We have a tradition on Christmas eve - I wrap 3 boxes (stacked and dressed up with beanie and marker as snowmen) 1 box has a new blanket, 1 has Christmas PJs and one has all kinds of snacks. Each kid gets a snowman stack. They open them after dinner then we watch a Christmas movie together.
My husband and I took our girls to ride around and look at Christmas lights. This was in the early 70's. Our children were so excited! The house that had cars lined up for miles was James Browns house. Decorated with so many decorations. So much fun! Then our grandchildren came along and we to them out for the lights. (James Brown house gone) by this time. We made hot chocolate in the thermos with marshmallows. Such great memories.
Midnight Mass followed by getting into Christmas pjs and eating a piece of Christmas bread ( made with cranberry nuts and oats) and drinking a cup of hot cocoa. Christmas morning is champagne breakfast with savory breakfast casserole and bread pudding. We eat aearly dinner at about 4pm. We end our Christmas day with watching old Christmas movies like Miracle on 34th street, Its a wonderful life, The Bishop’s wife, White Christmas and snacking on whatever we want to. Gift exchange is minimal in my small family. It’s the way we have chosen to remember the Blessed birth of Love in Jesus Christ. ❤
🎄The star looks like it might be capiz shell. I love tree toppers, but they are so dang heavy! I have to MacGyver mine with zip ties and wooden dowels I painted green to support it, and then I have to camouflage the support pieces. Haha! It will just flop right over if I don't.
We have many traditions in our family....sometimes it's hard to fit them all in! But our favorite is 'soup day' Our family makes several soups, I make focaccia bread and we just have a low key, game playing, eating all day day! No agenda, nothing to do but be together, eat and enjoy each other. I'd give all the others up for this.
My mother had that exact same picture in her kitchen and now it is in mine since my parents passed. I do agree with you about the color we just moved so I haven’t had the time to do anything with it yet. The background color match’s the color of the frame. It’s that old style oak color.
Well now a widow i will be home alone on Christmas. My girls have already came for a visit. Its always a fun time when they come. For Christmas it will just be me and my kitty Lilly-Bella. But it could be worst. . Ill get into my p.j.'s. Get comfortable and watch Christmas movies and count my blessings. Love that star. So pretty. I thought it was Mother of pearl. But not sure. Some kind of sea shell maybe. ❤❤❤
My daughter (34 and my only child) and I go to the Christmas High Tea at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans every year. It’s our favorite thing to do during the holidays! 🎄✨
Julie that pucture is from Home Interiors. It is the same almost as thd ones in ovsl medal frames in your bedroom they were available at the same time. The color i believe was made that way something about the sky and weather the painter was trying to portray. I have the metal oval ones too!
Julie, I loved many of the things you looked at! In November you said you were decorating early so we could see what you did and give us ideas. Hopefully you will do a house tour soon! You always do beautiful things!
The star IS pearl …it’s beautiful. Your goodwill has better prices than my location. I have never seen anything priced as low as 1.45 - 2.49…( I forget exact price!!!) great stuff! Can’t wait to see how you use the star this year!! See you tomorrow! ❤xx
You won’t believe this, but I found the exact same picture at Goodwill here in Waco, thought about it in the buggy, and put it back because it had an orange hue to it. I’m on the hunt for one for years because one hung over the fireplace on Andy Griffith!
Yes, my thoughts about the color of the picture, Made to look like dawn or dusk! (Edit: The colors the sun casts when shining thru some light clouds at dusk!)
Julie, the first item, round ceramic Santa house, is handmade. It was pored in a mold and then fired in a kiln. The only reason I know this is because my deceased mother and I took ceramic classes together. We each made one. Now my children are fighting over WHO gets it when I’m gone😂😂 Under the snowy roof, there were holes that small plastic peg’s went in, kinda like the lite bright toy for kids. It had a cord with a small wattage light to go in, like regular Christmas lights used to be. It was alwas part of mom’s and my Christmas decor, so cute. Just thought I would give you a bit of information on it. 💕🙏🙏
I really loved the Angelus picture, stopping to pray at noon church bell no matter what you were doing or where you were.I have a couple pictures in that same style, colors are muted, but gentle reminders of a simpler time🙏 The shell tree topper was beautiful. I thrifted a crocheted angel this year as I always seem to choose tree“topplers”” not toppers!🤗
I always enjoy your videos. I try to watch what I say now. I was explaining to a lady last night why some of Julie's videos for Thriftmas were filmed in Nov. Julie added an explanation right after I did saying the same thing. The lady took my explanation the wrong way. She said she didn't know someone else was making the decisions for Julie on her show. I definitely didn't mean anything by it was just trying to be helpful!
Hi Julie, I finally put my Christmas tree up, but usually, we have family day on Christmas day what we do but this year my brother is going to Canada with his girlfriend to see her family because she's got a new baby in her family and great video ❤🎄
The picture was Home Interiors. I bought mine in the 70s or 80s and have kept it all these years. I always thought the sky colors represented God watching from the sky. The colors are original.
Hi Julie thank you for another great video. I just loved the duck from last night. I couldn't believe how you got it to look like wood. Great job! I started a Christmas tradition with my adult children ages 29 and 31. Unfortunately, they never met their grandparents on either side due to them passing away before their birth along with many other family members. So each Christmas l have photos printed and frame them with a bit of information about the person. This way it's like building a family tree for them.
❤When my children were younger and at home I used to bake a Cake for Christmas Morning we would sing Happy birthday Jesus 🎂 before opening our gifts as Christmas is about the birth of Jesus our savory!!! Then the kids could eat cake for breakfast 😋 ❤❤❤ My children are older now and things have changed they have families of there own and have there own traditions 😢 how I miss family gatherings ❤❤
We head to Illinois to visit my mom, mother in law, family and friends ❤ Spent Thanksgiving in El Paso, Tx with our youngest son, daughter in law and her family ❤ Leading up to our trip to Illinois we have gatherings with friends. ❤❤🎄🎄
My son just joined the military on November and Im devastated without him I cry all the time but my pain is nothing compared to yours. I can’t imagine how hard it is for you. I’m sorry for your loss and wish you peace in your heart
We bake a Birthday cake for Jesus.Candles and all and sing Happy Birthday to Him. One year I sent out Birth announcements, announcing the birth of God's Son, Jesus instead of Christmas cards. We love this season.
The picture is a reproduction of a famous painting by Millet called 'The Angelus" (1859). The colours in the one you saw are nothing like the original. The star is made from capiz shell.
I'm sorry. You two could start your own. Traditions can be just two people- Candlelight dinner, Driving around seeing the lights, Helping a family in need, Baking cookies.
Oh I love that star. I believe it’s made from a shell, or mother of pearl shells. Very very pretty. 😊❤😊❤🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
That picture is the Angelus and in the old days farmers could hear the church bells ring at noon and would stop and pray. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could hear the church bells reminding us that God should ALWAYS have a place in our day?!
I have a church near my home that the bells ring at noon but I never knew the meaning Thank you for sharing this
Oh I love that! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, I remember those times when religion played a big role in our society. After we moved to the USA we lost our traditions
That picture went straight to my heart. So beautiful. Where I have lived all my life, we at one time had a church that rang its bells at 12 oclock every day. We still have the church but the bells haven't rang in many, many years.

To me, it looked like the picture was at sunrise or sunset, when the sky looks pinkish.
Your star topper is capiz shell. Nice find.

I had a picture that did that coloring thing and it was caused by the sun fading it

That coloring on the picture is called sepia. It was made that way. It is on old pictures a lot. I love the picture.

The picture is faded from exposure to sunlight. I have some that have turned a pinkish color after prolonged exposure.

IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE CHRISTMAS, I REALLY HAVEN'T DECORATED, NONE OF MY TREES ARE UP. I MISS MY SON PAUL THAT PASSED AWAY 10 YRS AGO. HE WAS MURDER.
