I found one of these at a thrift store for 11 bucks. When I turned it on the disk wouldn't spin, so I cleaned every single part that I could and realized coffee collects behind the disk and mineralizes if you don't take good care of it. After wetting a small cloth in vinegar and putting it behind the disk to soak for 5-6 mins. Most of the coffee came out and the last bit I filed down. It immediately worked from that point on and makes a good cup if you calibrate it, but I can see how people get the 001 disk stuck error even when they think they're doing a good job of cleaning it. It requires a lot of maintenance.
I have had this unit a few years now. I like it very much. The only down side is, when using oily beans, the grind chute tends to clog up. When this happens you have to clean the chute which can be a bit tedious. Non oily beans don't seem to clog it up however. I use the timer for morning brew. I set it at 8 for strong coffee. Also, customer service in the USA is quite excellent from Breville. If Breville figures out a way to clean the chute easier, this machine would be the perfect coffee grinder/brewer.
Have you tried contacting them recently? Whenever I call now, I get very unintelligent and unknowledgeable overseas workers who literally have to read for about 10 minutes how my product works before they can even think about giving. Any suggestions. Would you get your car tire replaced by a guy who is reading a manual for the first time on how to change a tire? I think not. Lol
Makes one of the best coffee I've ever tasted but, sadly, in my experience is prone to break. Love this coffee maker and its gobs of useful functions and settings while it worked for a year, but mine unfortunately stopped working (error 001) just a few days after expiration of warranty. One of the common issue (less than 55% 5 star rating at a popular online store) with this coffee maker is the rotor motor getting stuck apparently due to a sensor prone to break after a while of use, subsequently persistently failing to work with a 001 error. Suggests before purchase for one to do a due diligence of visiting forums and feed back comments.
Over the past 14 months Breville has sent me 3 of these units....the first two had serious problems. The one I have now has been working well for 8 months now. Two weeks ago it stopped grinding. I contacted Breville for help. I spoke to an agent named Sondra. She was so kind, she sent me a new upper grinder and stated that if this doesn't work we will ship the unit back for repair or replacement. The part arrived and didn't change. This time it took leaving 4 phone messages for anyone to call me back to set up a return. The man I spoke with informed me that the unit was out of warrenty by 30 days but they would be happy to fix the unit for $145. I was so upset. I asked him to look back over the records and see all the problems we had with the maker. He said there was nothing he could do, that if I wanted it fixed it would cost $145. Be careful if you choose to buy a Breville product. They do not support their products. This maker should have lasted more than 14 months. For the cost I paid for this it should have lasted for many many years. @breville #breville #brevillecoffeemaker
What about cleanup? The filter-basket contraption looks like it would be a nuisance to wash. Does the top come off the filter basket so that both parts can go in the dishwasher? What about the carafe? Does it go into the dishwasher? I've also seen comments that the grinder chute gets clogged up. How hard is that to clean and how often do you need to do it?
Just purchased this coffee pot....we have calibrated the grounds but still getting very bitter coffee, what grind number is recommended? We like a lighter strength coffee. Thanks
Just purchased this machine....I love it aesthetically, but not happy with its production! Can you help me understand why I’m not getting a strong cup/pot?
Hopefully quick question. If I fill this with enough water for a carafe and only choose to brew a single cup, will this keep pumping water or will it stop at one cup? Thanks, Tony
Water will stop. Be sure to clean the silver disk where the coffee enters the basket. I do so after each pot. Great coffee machine just needs a little maintenance.
We have this coffee maker, we bought it a couple months ago at Best Buy for around $299. I love the look of the coffee maker and when it works it makes nice coffee. However we have trouble all the time with the grinder and sometimes where the filter is it a pops open during brewing. I cleaned it almost daily so I’m not sure what else to do so unfortunately I’m going to return it today. I’m going to replace it with another one and hopefully that one works if not I’ll return that and get different brand.
When I turn my grinder knob the display says grind "size 3" no matter what the knob position. I've turned all the way to fine and all the way to course and display doesnt change from " 3", Any ideas what's going on?
If you can find it locally, go for it. If not, try Amazon.com - amzn.to/2e2nijX What do we do with the coffee gear we have tried, but don't use every day? Mostly it ends up in the hands of family, friends and neighbors. ; )
Coffee brews and taste great. However the grinds seem too large. Very wasteful. I would go through a 3 pound bag of coffee very quickly. Anyone have suggestions on keeping grind waste to a minimum. I have the grind setting a as tight as it goes.
Question, if you had it to do all over again, knowing what you know now after using the machine this long, would you buy it again? I got mine a week ago and I had to crank the strength to level 8 to tamp down this odd flavor the machine is giving off. I got it at a great price, the best price i've seen in over 2 or 3 years of stalking so i'm trying to figure out if that crazy flavor is what will make me return it. Thanks.
Thank you. Had my morning cup a few hours ago and I'm really leaning towards returning it. That crazy flavor is really bugging me, especially at the cost of the machine. This is my 11th Breville appliance. I guess I can do without one, lmao. Thanks again.
Crazy Flavor > I have used this machine for a year and have not ever noticed this. I do have to run it through a Descale mode, have you done this? I do this about every 2 months, the machine will tell you when this is needed. Not a hard thing to do. Also don't forget to clean the chute. Open the swing-out door. The coffee grinds chute will rotate to the open position. You may hear a winding sound, this is normal. This will give you the ability to clean the area between where the beans are grounded and they go into the basket. This area can easily get stooped up. Hope this helps.
I don't know what price you'd find in a local store, but I just took a look at Amazon.com - amzn.to/2e2nijX - and it's priced at $278. Given that this is both a brewer and a burr grinder, and that it's a solid machine from a good manufacturer, I think the price sounds about right. Not inexpensive, but a good machine.
I just got this last night. I played with it a lot this morning. Yes the coffee was delicious. I love all the stuff it does and I love how it can do single serve and you can adjust it to your taste, but it just doesn’t make the coffee hot enough. Damn it. I really wanted this coffee maker. Why did it have to have that flaw. It needs to be hotter. When you first drink it, it’s like, “ok, it’s hot enough”, enough is the key word; but then it gets cold a little faster than it should. I wish you could adjust the temperature. I might return it in a couple of days. I’m going to make some coffee with my other coffee maker and see if there is a difference that’s worth keeping it.
Hi Rebecca, have you tried preheating the pot with the hottest water from your faucet for several minutes? I do this and my coffee seem to stay hot. If this does not work I would get an digital thermometer and check the temperature of your coffee after it has brewed. Could be something wrong with the unit.
Dont waste your time with this junk. We bought one, it would never work right and the company would only warranty out their product if we paid out of pocket.
Love the machine - BUT - its is high maintenance...its take a little getting used to but like it alot. Descaling it as we speak. That said, the worst thing about this machine if the thermos. Whoever developed it is stupid. If there was a new design for the thermos, without the huge lip that makes it difficult to pour when it gets low, it would almost be perfect.
@@carlasaunders3983 I prefer the paper filter because it's cheap & I dump the spent coffee grounds into my garden. It's much harder to clean the reusable filter. What brand coffee are you using?
Piece of garbage, makes plastic tasting coffee and eventually breaks down. The electronics on mine are done, just proves this stuff is not meant to last. Get a manual grinder, a kettle, and a french press.

Does this machine have a standby warming mode, or does it just shut off when done.. looking to have hot cofee hours after completed?
Thanks for the review. For single cup serving, do I need to fill the water to 1-2 cups only or it automatically know to only dispense 1 cup.

Never had that "crazy flavor" problem. But did eventually get a little annoyed with how the bean hopper is a bit flat, and you have to fill it often.

This machine gives great coffee but high maintenance and if you do not keep up with the maintenance it will stop working.
Hi John, what kind of maintenance do you mean?
Do you ever get a kraft full of grounds?
Good video! Very helpful!
any way to program it for morn brew and make coffee WITHOUT grinding?
Yes. You turn down the grind dial to zero and it uses pre-ground coffee... even for programmed brews.
awesome review. just picked a used one up for $80, can't wait to try it out.
80?!?!? How
Can u quote the price of this machine, I would love to hear your opinion on this

The whole thing is designed terribly
