You have to remember as well that Martin basically carried a team, that had not won a final for 16 years (and only 2 in 35 years), largely on his shoulders to a ground breaking flag. The amount of pressure on a player of his caliber playing for Richmond, perhaps the second most hated team in the game to Collingwood from fans + media, and doing so with his contract pressure in 2017 AND Dad being deported all the same time.. has yet to be surpassed on a personal level. Lastly, when you take into account Richmond were one win away from a potential flag in 2018, in a competitive 18 team league, which would have led to 4 flags in a row with 2020 being seen as impossible at the time given nearly the whole season being away from Melbourne.. he would have practically carried the greatest TEAM of all time as well. Judd is 6th all time and is the 2nd best midfielder ever, and was at one point the best mid ever. Educate yourself on 2000s footy

@@obi-nine1504 having a better midfield means he had it easier to start. Oppositions had to much talent to spread attention across and you get more feeds from those other stars.
As for accolades, judd was obviously a gun. But the norms and Ayres medals and 4 or more years to run, dusty will likely sit above Judd. I would say Judd has the best 3 year period of any player (somewhat modern). But dusty 2016 year blows him out in every statistical category. So he takes the best year. Dusty finals stats also wash Judd.
But again, I wasn’t even arguing who was better. That is an argument for the end of martins career. I’m Just stating the fact that they’re stats show statistical parity at the start of their careers. Hence the the narrative Judd did it from day 1 and dusty didn’t is false.

And at Carlton although he wasn’t the same player he was at weet coast he still won another brownlow, and his stats at Carlton were better but at west coast he had to compete against cousins, Kerr etc. playing along side that midfield is a good argument, there wasn’t enough of the pill going around. For those agreeing with those Richmond haters that Judd did it straight away and Martin took 3, 4 or 5 years to be good haven't got a clue. I saw Martin play all those games live and he was amazing.
Martin was doing the don't argue on blokes with mature bodies when he was 18 years old and playing brilliant football from the start. The only thing he needed in the first 2 years was a bigger tank to be super effective all game.
However lets compare some stats and then tell me who was better early......
    Dusty.....
    2010 --- Games played = 21, Kicks = 210, Handballs = 215, Total Disposals 425 (Average per game = 20.2)
    2011 --- Games played = 22, Kicks = 311, Handballs = 175, Total Disposals 486 (Average per game = 22.1)
    Judd....
    2002 --- Games played = 22, Kicks = 222, Handballs = 109, Total Disposals 331 (Average per game = 15.0)
    2003 --- Games played = 22, Kicks = 268, Handballs = 150, Total Disposals 418 (Average per game = 19.0)
So don't believe the narrative that Dusty was no good when he started, and Judd was great from the beginning. These nuff nuffs just talk crap without delving into facts.
We also know that Dusty is the very BEST big game player of all time.
An area that people might think Judd has the wood on Dusty is Brownlow votes.
Career Brownlow votes are as follows
Judd --- 210 Votes from 279 games played, 0.75 Votes per game
Martin 191 Votes from 244 games played, 0.78 Votes per game (I have not included the games played in 2021 as votes have not been awarded for those yet)
Also remember, no Brownlow votes for Finals, in which Dusty has been BOG for 3 finals series when it counts most.
Now whilst I've debunked the "Judd was better earlier" crap, I'll also add that Dustin will be better longer than Judd too.
So yeah Dusty is better than Judd. This is not just me saying this. My friend who is a diehard Carlton supporter thinks it isn't close. He is a man into his 60's and has seen a lot of the greats. He tells me he thinks Dusty is the best of all time.
Also career numbers for those interested:
Martin 250 games, Average Kicks 15.64 per game, Average Handballs 9.32, Average Disposal 24.95 per fame. Average Goals 1.11 per game.
Judd 279 games, Average Kicks 12.73, Average Handballs 10.14 per game, Average Disposals 22.87 per game, Average Goals 0.82 per game.
So Martin not only with more disposals per game in his career, but with the more damaging kick, he kicks it a lot more than he handballs.

The Tigers ended up taking a narrow lead at half time and it took until the third quarter before the Tigers kicked away (thanks a lot to Dusty's great performance). I don't call that front running, I call that being the most clutch finals performer ever. That was the same year as him winning the Brownlow and polling more votes than anyone else.
Now you say he front ran the second grand final too in 2019. Of course the second grand final against GWS was a huge blowout from start to finish. However it wasn't just the grand finals, it was every game in all those final series where Dusty elevated his game to an extra level and dominated. In the 2019 final series, Richmond played 3 finals where Dusty kicked 12 goals with only 2 behinds kicked. The 2020 finals series speaks for itself with him digging Richmond out in the grand final itself with 4 amazing goals.
He actually kicked 7 goals and 0 behinds that final series (remember this was the year all games were reduced severely in the time played in each quarter due to the covid). He still had 20+ possession games whilst kicking those goals too despite the reduced game time.

Dusty was almost traded to North in his early years because he wasn't living up to his potential...

    • @mathematics480
      @mathematics480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@markymark4831 At the end of 2013 several clubs thought they were a chance to get him but weren't even close. North tried hard to get him in 2017 but you were talking about early in his career. Speaking about 2013, Richmond didn't want to trade him, they wanted to only pay him what he was worth at the time, so they let Dusty and his manager Ralph Carr explore offers to see what other clubs thought he was worth.
So when Dusty's first contract was negotiated, his agent Ralph Carr played hard ball and shopped him around trying to get a better deal, but Dusty loved it at the Tigers and kept telling the clubs he was supposedly in talks with how much he loved it at Richmond. Here is a quote in an article from the age regarding what happened :
"One by one the potential suitors fell away: some for financial reasons; some for concerns about his lifestyle or image; some because when they spoke to him all he did was talk about how much he loved Richmond and they wondered why on earth he was leaving.
In the end the market was not what Martin or his manager thought it would be. The $600,000 a year four-year deal they hoped or expected evaporated."
He ended up being signed on $480,000 a year at that stage at the end of 2013.
So you make it sound like Richmond wanted to trade him due to him not living up to potential. That was not the case. In fact even in 2013, Dusty came 2nd in the Best and Fairest and Richmond made it clear that he was a required player at the club. They just wanted to pay him what the market thought his value was.
As it turned out the original offer Richmond gave to Martin ended up being lowered a bit after Ralph Carr shopped him around. Martin's heart was not in this negotiation as he loved it so much at Richmond that it ruined their chances of finding a potential other team wanting him. Other clubs were also severely worried about the risks of the type of person he was and that it would come back to bite them. In regards his football ability, everyone knew he was worth a lot more.
You did mentioned about Dusty nearly being traded to North in the early years. I don't remember North wanting him in 2013 during his contract negotiations but there were a lot of clubs testing the waters at the time. However in 2017 North made that huge effort to get Martin offering him 1.5million a year. The tigers then upped their original offer of 1.1million a year to 1.3million a year for 7 years which he then accepted.

Lmao Judd averaged a goal a game when he was at west coast and he never ever played forward. Dusty plays forward more so than midfield, Judd at west coast was the best midfielder in the game and the best midfielder ever, he was simply remarkable. He’s no way the better athlete 🤦🏼‍♂️look up Chris Judd west coast highlights before he’s groin injury’s and feel ashamed, he was so fast and explosive, would kick running goals from 50 out, burst through packs and deliver a bullett to a teammate or kick a goal, he was so hard to tackle its not funny, Gary ablett, Luke ball, Simon black, Joel Selwood and Dangerfield and all said judd was the hardest to tackle when asked who was. Dusty might look stronger because he’s more solid, Judd was 190 cm 88 kg was the most explosive player in the league, impossible to tackle, he was a beast of an athlete. Dangerfield is the closet thing to Judd we’ve seen but even he doesn’t possess the explosiveness Judd does. Judd just hadn’t had the speed his whole career due to injuring his groin just before he came to Carlton, he was more of a inside contested midfielder at Carlton and didn’t kick as many goals due to losing his pace, he still won another brownlow even after having to change his play style. Judd is better at every part of the game besides field kicking and marking, he had bad shoulders so marking was always a weak point. You know nothing about prime Judd or 2000s footy.

Judd played inside the Contest more and that’s why he scored less Goals where Dusty plays Outside the Contest more and this suits each player.

Some of the things Dusty does are simply awesome !!! His latest Grand Final effort is one such example of his brilliance. However, his disposal efficiency is pretty bloody poor, running at somewhere near 60% last time I checked. Richmond fans know that he turns the ball over in really bad area's and costs goals. His defensive efforts are pretty ordinary as well. Would I like him on my team? Hell yeah, his pro's out weigh is con's. Judd was consistently brilliant from what I saw, playing most of his career in a horrible team, with average coaching staff. If he was able to put up with the West Coast 'party culture' particularly Cousin's antics, the Eagle's would had an amazing run of success.

Had that club not foolishly and stupidly sacked Brett Ratten after only 1 poor season in his coaching career, Carlton would have easily returned to Finals the following season just like Richmond did after 2016 and would have been a major threat in the Finals. I dare even say probably the only team that could have stopped that great Hawthorn team at the team. Retaining Ratten changes everything. A whole bunch of very good players like Betts don't leave the club in the first place, the players develop much more and more effectively under him than they did under Mick Malthouse and most importantly the culture of the club is much better and become more about winning than losing.

I'm a Tigers Supporter and as it stands Judd is No 1 but who knows what Martin might end up achieving So the question should be asked when Martin Finnish's his career. GO DUSTY EAT EM ALIVE.

Dustin doesn't even come close. Everything Dustin does Judd did better and was playing in an era of champions. Dustin would have been an average player at best in his era.

Tony L how is he overrated, take some time out of your dad and watch Chris Judd eagles highlights, at west coast I’d take him over Ablett any day, he was freakishly explosive, no one could tackle him. Your going off by how he played at Carlton when he had groin problems at Carlton. Could of had three brownlows In 2007 but got injured
