Proves that you don't need a massive lift hill, for innovation. The first two inversions, are a full tease. The instant one from the station, is just because the designers could.
I've ridden some of the fastest, tallest, coasters, with the most inversions, launches, etc. Copperhead Strike is one of the only launch coasters that I ALWAYS feel like I'm coming out of my seat while riding. The roll at the beginning is to let you feel just how much wiggle and play you have on this ride.
What saddens me about this ride is that most of the hardcore enthusiasts won't appreciate this ride for what it offers because it's not the tallest, fastest, and longest launch coaster. Copperhead Strike is INCREDIBLY a fun coaster. No, it doesn't have the fastest launch, but it wasn't engineered/designed to do so either as the focus on this coaster was having hang time in those inversions. The speed of the launches was powerful enough to get you through those inversions and provide you with adequate hang time, but what some don't know who haven't rode it yet is that you haul ass through through the rest of the layout after the first loop and after the second loop. Those tight and snappy transitions almost make you feel like you're on an Intamin Blitz coaster. They certainly do toss and throw you around and out of your seat which was wasn't expected. Not every coaster has to be 90mph, 315ft tall, and have 11 inversions to be an awesome coaster and provide a great ride experience. But, not everybody understands that.
Exactly. The engineers and designers know what they're doing before the first footer is put in the ground. I worked at KD on I305 its inaugural season. The designer/whatever you call them was there one day. He and the others wre riding it, to test the lift hill speed.. I remember him saying he wanted it to go faster. At any rate, people are gonna say it's too slow or whatever...but trust me, you don't want it to go faster than it is. But then again people are going to complain no matter what. But you know, if those one that DO complain and say they won't ride it again...well that's less people in line and means I can ride it more :) I can't wait to get to Carowinds and ride Copperhead Strike.
Ok but seriously. And Green Lantern is closed. Apocalypse is closed. I’m pretty sure some other major attractions have been closed lately. I’m really disappointed in Six Flags. Maybe they have a grand plan, but from an outsider it seems like all they care about is number of parks and not quality. I think they even forgot they have parks in St. Louis, Canada, Baltimore area........ I don’t even go to Six Flags anymore.
@@luvmj32 They just announced a few days ago Green Lantern is closed forever. My guess is they found a buyer for it, as they were running it just a couple days ago with no people on it.
Man this fits the current Carowinds lineup so well. Anyone who has ridden one of these knows how much fun they are all having. It might not be the biggest or most scariest in a park that is mostly high intensity anyway but damn that looks fun.
@@bezoticallyyours83 I do not think that this is a family coaster. When utilizing rcdb defintions, this qualifies as Extreme. Then again, rcdb really needs to change its system.
I rode it today and I've never really done roller coasters, but it's much more intense (in my opinion) than The Fury 325 or The Intimidator. It was cool but I'd agree with the comment above in feeling like you were gonna fall out.
Rode it Friday and it's a fun ride. It has some hang time and some nice pops of airtime. I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10 unless you get the back. Then it's a solid 9 in the back. The hang time seems more intense in the back. I think the general public will love it and the coaster enthusiast will be like it's okay. Where else are you gonna ride a Mach double launch in the Eastern United States? It's no Maverick but it's way better than Fire Chaser Express.
Looks a lot like ICON at Blackpool PB to me. Also noticed that there’s no over shoulder restraints, which makes me wonder whether the lap bars would be uncomfortably tight. Felt like I was gonna fall out of Icon when I went upside down because I’m short, so my body would drop onto the top of the shoulder restraints every time it went upside down.
@@treinspotterhoofddorp9841 So they should make that first car camera permanent and then sell microSD cards with the .mp4 video to the people that were in that first seat.
Update: my friend went to Carowinds on opening day, they said the line was horrible. Like a 2 hour wait. They never got to ride it. It kept breaking down.
It seems like a lot of fun! My only strong critique is about those launches: Mack rides just do not have strong enough acceleration it’s so mild for me. For them to make a ‘airtime’ hill launch the riders seemed to get no airtime on that portion. They need to kick it up a bit in the launch department but otherwise really solid layout.
The airtime is actually more aggressive on-ride than what videos make it out to be, especially in the front. Those ejector hills really do bring you out of your seat.
The looks are very deceiving on this ride, the launches dont look like much but they do have an impact. It's really only slow thru the loops and top hat. The rest of the ride combined with how close it is to the ground and the design makes it relatively fast with airtime spots
I went there on the same day you posted and you should try POV for Fury ;-;-;-;-;-; Edit: btw copperhead strike is fun but when you do the first loop it feels like you aren’t going to make it past the top bc it takes a bit of time to get across it
The ride isnt themed around snakes, its themed around moonshine. The trains are designed after cars that were used during prohibition to outrun the police and ship moonshine. Copperhead is a reference to a moonshine still.
Copperheads aren't a desert snake they're native to SC and known to hang out under pieces of rubble. The old lady in the launch pre-show is making moonshine in an old farm-like building and copper pipes are utilized. Theme is well realized.
This thing hauls ass. Looked like a complete blur to me whenever I rode it. The corkscrew at the start is the worst part though. Being suspended upside down isn't fun.
I road my first coaster at Carowinds, White Lightning, during a church youth group trip. 35 years later, I’m still riding coasters. Love this park.
It's still alive! It's been operating as the Golden Loop in South Africa for about 30 years. Very fun ride.

Both are great, maverick is better for people who don’t want intensity
