Jurisdiction of the arbitration court is not the issue. The issue is that China's "historical" claims to sovereignty over the South China Sea were examined and were determined to be unfounded.

Beijing is known for doing invasion little by little like their strategy in Hongkong by introducing CCP law.Apart from this is contested area of West Philippine Sea or South China Sea.What the CCP did was using militia as fishermen and occupy the Mischief Reef which they said to be safe haven for fishermen but later it turned to be permanent structure ,which is a few Kilometers from the nearest shore of the country Philippines. Its man made island and the bullying tactics for Asean fishermen who treated them with arrogance from the its navy. The occupation of Chinese is 100% illegal, its Nine Dash Line was only created in the year 1947 has no basis in International law.The sea is Asean’s traditional fishing ground since ancient times unlike China who is very far away from the sea she wants to steal. It is a clear violation of UNCLOS who also a member of the said organization.Plus the Arbitration tribunal rules in favor of the Philippines and not the Nine Dash Line of the CCP because it is common how that far encompasses claim that left few kilometers to the shore of another claimant countries. This is greedy attempt to steal another land.Under Unclos China has no basis to be there ‘You are illegal alien that wants only to poach the area including its natural resources. It is shameful that you want to own the area only by force and arrogance.

The issue here is about China and the Philippines and it's not about the U.S., The Chinese are harassing our Filipino fishermen and Vietnamese fishermen as well. Chinese took the Coral Reefs and build artificial Island which is illegal and it's inside our 200 EEZ. We've been knocking several times and talk to them regarding the issues but it's been ignored by them,So in order to get this Chinese attention is to go and complain on UNCLOS. Actually this issues and happenings is all about the U.S. and China why? Chinese in the first place expanding their militaries and showing their force and of course US will react. After ww2 there's no issues around there at SCS every countries can sail and fish around there except our 200 EEZ. Maybe this Chinese is running out of food, expanding or show off their STOLEN TECHNOLOGY.

Look how far away from your country. We have our new President so I hope this will resolve peacefully.

+Joshua Feng I know your going to brought US in this discussion but this issues is between China and Philippines. Yes we are Allied with the US since the 1800 but it doesn't mean that they are telling us what to do. Just to let you know 1993 US Bases was out in our Territory just to let you know that we don't need war and we want Peace and Stability on our country. The reason why the US reacted is because first You took and build artificial land on our which is inside 200 EEZ and first you flashing your military around that area and saying telling us about 9 dash line, you cannot get all of SCS by grabbing and build just like that .Imagine without a law ..what will happen on our surroundings. Sorry that's how it goes ..after ww2 we ALL but some sign around that area on UNCLOS including China so you guys comply regardless.

When China knew it is going to court on the ownership of the islands, China did not prepare a defense team nor substantial proof to the islands, except for the bull that they were part of Chinese history. If the defense team do not go to court, they forfeit or claim no contest for the claims. China ignored legal ruling and then said that any claims to the islands can be held in China's court system. Hello? China is a claimant too. You need an outsider as an arbitrator to decide fairly. Since the islands are closest to the Philipines and based on the international waters laws, the islands belong Ito the Philipines. Don't come to my front door and claim my front yard belongs to you, unless you want some a$$-kicking, you thief! Stop telling us you want transparency and peace when you invaded, China.

The difference between US territories such as Guam and your so called territory is that the International community recognizes these territories as US territories, with no other claimants. They have the right to put their military there. Chinese territorial claims are not recognized by the majority of the international community, as well as being claimed by other nations. You cannot just put your military to a territory that is claimed by other nation, such actions are not only reckless, but also create tension in the region.
The majority of Asian countries have already recognized the UNCLOS ruling in the Hague, Only China and a few other countries do not see it as such.
If you claimed a territory that is being claimed by other countries, and you forcefully restrict their rights, you are not only seen as a bully, but also perceived as a powerful, unstable state that will do anything to expand their territories. An expansionist country will always be a cause for concern for every nation.

The so-called award issued by the arbitral tribunal for the South China Sea arbitration "has no meaning beyond a piece of paper", said Martin Jacques, a renowned British scholar on Asian issues.
Jacques made the remarks in a recent interview with China Central Television (CCTV) in light of the tribunal's decision on Tuesday that denied China's long-standing historic rights in the South China Sea.
"The difficulty here is that the corpus of international law is western law. So that's built up over, especially since the Second World War, but before that as well. And the Chinese position is very different. It's historic claims," said Jacques.
Jacques explained that as the West had shaped and written the international maritime law, it has been accepted as the order, adding that it reflects the western domination over a long historic period.
While he believes this is coming to an end, it is going to take a long time.
From Jacques' perspective, it has been much tougher for China since 2010 when the United States became more involved in East Asia. He said the U.S. has tried to offer a voice in these disputes for claimant countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The scholar believes that dialogue between China and other countries is the best way to solve the disputes.

So China believes that since they invested the time effort and money to "develop" islands in the South China Seas and the Spratly Islands, then it rightfully belongs to them. So what if the US, or Japan, or Australia, or some other country, built man-made islands 20 miles off the coast of China? Could we then claim that since we developed the islands, it belongs to us? Would China accept American islands 20 miles off their shores? Could we also claim the oil and gas resources within 200 miles of those man-made artificial islands? Would China be okay with that?
Or what if the US and other countries started building man-made islands in the South China Seas, next to China's man-made islands, and then claim natural resources near those islands. Would China be okay with that? I don't think so.

By the way, China is in worse debt than the US. Their spectacular growth has been shrinking for the last 9 years. Chinese labor has gotten too expensive. Foreign companies and Chinese companies are both moving out of China to cheaper labor markets like Vietnam, India, Indonesia, The Philippines, etc. China's economy and spending spree paid for by debt is unsustainable.
China is still one of the poorest countries in the world. The average Chinese make HALF as much as an American teenager flipping burgers at McDonald's for minimum wage. A quarter of the population still lives in 3rd world poverty.

May I point out a few facts for your review.:
    1) During the 2nd W W, Japan invaded & occupied most Chinese coastal cities including all the islands in the South China Sea and the Philippines.
    2) When Japan surrendered, America regained control of the Philippines only, as a colony.
    3) At the same time, American gun-boats ferried Chinese soldiers to all these islands in S. China Sea to restore Chinese sovereignty from the occupying Japanese. Some of those islands are named after those US gun-boats ever since.
    4) All the maps were drawn by the US Government before 1975 clearly marked these islands belonged to China.
    5) For thousands of years, only China has laid claim to these islands until oil was found in 1975.
    These are facts and history.

Now, in the case of the spratly islands, There are no permanent inhabitants on the islands, Most of them are shoals which are not islands but are part of the sea bed... No country can claim a sea without measuring first the distance from an island that supports human habitation independently. The UNCLOS ruled that all the features in spratlys are all low tide elevation and rocks which means they are not entitled to a 200 nautical miles EEZ. These means that even if china owns all the rocks in the south china sea, those features will only get 12 nautical miles of territorial sea but beyond that 12 nautical miles will be the EEZ of the philippines. okay? It also means china HAs No right to claim scarborough shoal because it not an island.

China's policy toward South China Sea since Deng Xiaoping is "lay the disputes aside and exploit together".
China has a long historical relationship with SCS:
King of Nanyue (predecessor of Vitenam, a part of China till 939AD, Vietnamese: Nhà Triệu) Zhao Tuo (a Han Chinese 240BC-137BC, Vietnamese: Triệu Đà) administrated northern part of SCS.
1972 unearthed Mawangdui Han Tombs extracted some maps with SC Sea.
"Book of Later Han" wrote between 432AD and 445AD has chapters about SCS.
Various later historical documents describe SCS.
The most famous event for Chinese to explore South China S is "Zheng He's Voyages".
Zheng He (1371-1433 or 1435), formerly romanized as Cheng Ho, was a Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, fleet admiral, and court eunuch during China's early Ming dynasty. He was originally born as Ma He in a Muslim family, later adopted the conferred surname Zheng from Emperor Yongle. Zheng commanded expeditionary voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. His larger ships stretched 120 meters or more in length. These carried hundreds of sailors on four tiers of decks.
South China sea is very important "belt" for old Chinese's trade route.
"China" as porcelain can be found in many places on land or under water along the old "belt" trade route.
If you think China should claim a small part of SCS then China can get peace with other countries? Which small part?
If we claim small part of SCS, it is not reasonable. In the ancient time, Chinese ancestor's activity/navigation is not restricted to a small part or to a fixed sea route. Most islands or coral reef are claimed after WW2, or after WW1. But Chinese has relationship with SCS is 1500 years earlier than most of the claims.

South China Sea does not mean that that body of water or sea is a territory of China The country China is only used as reference that such body of water is located south of China. No Maritime Law or International Law or UNCLOS has defined that such body of water is clearly a territory of China. So why China is telling to the whole world that such area is their territory? Are they not ashamed of such lies? They are putting themselves in great mistake. China has no jurisdiction or sovereignty in that particular area because it is very far from their country.

China then claim the surrounding sea as 11 dash in 1947 prior to unclos.
China had ratified unclos with reservation to protect their historical right which includes the scs.

The UN court has declared a 12 n/mile territorial zone and a 200 n/mile EEZ.
It doesn't matter about history. All previous claims are invalid. China, if she owned the SCS, has now lost it by international law, and the legitimate claimants within their EEZ of the SCS are Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam. They are now the rightful occupiers. China lost it, and the only way China can get it back is by winning it in a war,,,, but with such, China will have to fight at least 20 nations. Do China want to be beaten in a war? does China want to lose all those countries as customers? China, apart from NK, all other nations distrust you because of your obscene claim in the SCS. Do yourself a favour and retract from the legitimate claimants EEZ.

Western hypocrites dominated by the US:

Well, China is claiming the international water that circulates about 5 trillions dollars, and what China is doing will hurt the economy of many countries that belong/have trading in South China sea. The Chinese government is in fault at this part, because the 200 EEZ is something every country in the world has agreed upon.
U.S has 100+ bases in other countries, because those countries are allied to the U.S, and they allowed the U.S to put its military bases on their soil as a proof of the U.S's commitment to up hold the alliance. anything else you want to ask ?
Also, lots of Chinese people call the U.S government a hypocrite, but the problem is that China is acting the same as the U.S while claiming itself as not greedy as U.S. If you have to be perfect to criticize some one else, the U.S wouldn't have stepped into the second World war, and China would still being fucked by Imperial Japan, and the Europe would be under the Third Reich right now. It is all because just like Nazi, the U.S has concentration camp for Japanese citizens living in the U.S during war time, see my point ?

Hao Dong And how ? Just one embargo, and China will be screwed. Its economy is not stable thanks to those "wise leaders" CCP. China is taking profit base on 2 things: export to other ASEAN nations, and manufacturing goods for the Westerns nations. If an embargo is put on China for aggressive expansion, the Western world will not be hurt that much, because China tried to boycott their goods long time ago in favor for local goods, causing unfair trades between local and foreign trading. On the other hand, China will not be able to export its products to ASEAN countries, because: 1) It has been embargoed. 2) ASEAN nations, with the hatred for the 9-dash line claim, and the U.S backing them, will not give China a favorable trade deal like before, causing China to lose its influence in the region.
Chinese people keep saying " without us, you won't have any product to use, hahaha", well, it's quite the oposite, India can actually replace China, and it will not have competition in ASEA if China is embargoed. Also, most Western nations has followed "globalism" and have their products manufactured in multiple sources, like Middle East, South America, South East Asian, so it's not like the old day when China is the only provider anymore.

China is going down and it will go down hard as China has to reduce its population of 1.4 Billion souls, fast as they cannot afford to feed its own people as china is depleting the West Philippines seas from all its wild sea life. Heres a simple example look at the Philippines Sea Does it mean that It was name under the Philippines Name and the Philippines owns that (area)Sea? the answer is NO! Look at The Indian Ocean Does it mean they name Indian Ocean They Own Sri Lanka Seas Of course No! Does It mean that because it was name South China Sea. Then China Own South China Sea. the answer is NO! Chinese people try to read The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) its say every coastal country has exclusive rights to the oil, gas, and other resources in the seabed up to 200 nautical miles from shore or to the outer edge of the continental margin, whichever is the further, subject to an overall limit of 350 nautical miles (650 km) from the coast or 100 nautical miles (185 km) beyond the 2,500-metre isobath (a line connnecting equal points of water depth). Legally, this area is known as the continental shelf, though it differs considerably from the geological definition of the continental shelf. Where the territorial waters, EEZs, or continental shelves of neighbouring countries overlap, a boundary line must be drawn by agreement to achieve an equitable solution.) The Fact China is Building Artificial Islands inside this Countries Territory and So Close to the Land of Philippines. Inside the Economic Zone. The Problems is China knows That they dont own this whole south China sea but only part of it. They are doing it by force by Building Fake Island and So close to the main land of the Philippines. Then If China wont Recognize or acknowledge the Laws of the Seas of U.N. Then what Law will China Follows? Then China will make its own Laws her Own Law. Is that what you Mean Chinese People? you make your own Laws. Or you are theft by nature.

China should not claim territorial sovereignty on the EEZ of other ASEAN nations.
While it quotes the case of other powerful nations who has been claiming islands thousands of miles from its main territory in the olden times due in fact when these western powers in certain century were in the phase of conquering countries and territories, doing the same thing now would not bode well to peace and stability in the South China Sea.
Just because it is called South China Sea does not mean it owns the whole South China Sea. It does not justify China's aggression on harmless fisher folks, ramming down small fish boats and making announcements that these fishermen are entering the sovereign territory of China when in fact, these fishermen were within the Exclusive Economic Zone of its own country.

China has territorial disputes with every one of its neighbors. The US regards the South China Sea starting 12 miles off mainland China as international water and air space giving anyone the right to traverse it without anyone's permission. The construction of artificial islands to build military bases asserting it's sovereignty over this vast area of the open ocean is not recognized by the United States which sees it as an act of military expansiomism. It isn't clear yet what the US plans to do to eliminate these constructions but it will eventually and until then will traverse the sea and sky above to whatever degree and manner it chooses. This is a dispute China cannot win.
Another dispute it can't win is over islands claimed by Japan The US is obligated by treaty to defend Japan's interests.
The alternative to the US defending its allies from China's aggression and that of its proxy North Korea is a nuclear armed Japan and South Korea. They have the technical capability to become major nuclear powers very quickly. China had better denuclearize the brutal regime in North Korea soon as time is fast running out before a major American attack. This is not a bluff. President Trump does not bluff.
