@costage He's a great economist, he knows his stuff, though - he's an ace I'd say. But, lately, he engages in heavy platitudes, appeals to the lowest common denominator and, most notably, he never fails to mention those evil Nazis, fascists, racists, xenophobes and what have you, which works on the post-WW2 indoctrinated masses. He still hasn't figured out that those "racists and xenophobes" aren't so because of economy or poverty, but because of principles, which really shows that he doesn't know the kind of people the nations - NATIONS! - of Europe are. And how could he by zooming through the streets on a motorbike, shilling for climate change - a money hungry, globalist lobby? As for populism, there isn't anything inherently wrong about it, just that he's engaged in the same tactics people he criticizes are engaged in. If he stuck to the technical aspects of macro economy, he would've garnered more support also from the right, those evil "xenophobes." His movement, DiEM25, touts a lot of this new-age, neo-liberal lingo, like open borders, feminism, equality (this one always makes me laugh) and all that crap, it most definitely smells a lot like Open Society Foundation - just think of all the necessary resources that go into the public conferences, movement campaigns, public relations, personnel employment, co-hosting, space for rent and so on. I doubt he does it from his own wallet, but I'm sure his heart is in the right place, although, misguided; he's "un-apologetically Marxist" after all (his words).

this man has a conscience and most importantly, a love and a care for greece. he also happens to know what he is talking about. furthermore, his dialogue suggests a completely transparent and honest view about greece's situation. this is a lot more of what many of the other ministers had, who previously governed and destroyed greece, because they themselves were governed by non greek entities and non greek interests... varoufakis is worth his weight in gold.....for me he is the only man alive today who makes any sense regarding any greek issues and for any greek interests......when he goes to the other world and when finally greece wakes up, they will build a statue of him.
This man cares about himself and no one else. His whole tactic was to not have one but try to build a brand around himself and capitalize it later on. He closed the banks and people would stand in the queue to withdraw with a limit of 40 euro but he "didn't think its appropriate for him as finance minister to do that". His whole interest was about portraying a personal brand image on TV wearing leather jackets, lifted jacket collars and bullshit people all over the board - when he wasn't trying to enforce a tutoring of his "ideas" on them. He is a moron, and one of gigantic proportions. Just like his ego. He has no idea about real life whatsoever because he enjoys living in his bubble where he's the center of the universe and God among peasants. He is completely ignorant, one with studies - a charming bullshitter for those who enjoy consuming such content. I admire you having such views. And I mean that, even though I find such views delusional.
i don't agree with you.... he has an ego.... yes he wears leather jackets and rides a bike....yes. he can appear and could be ignorant.... yes all that. ....but he was all that, way back then before this crisis, i remember well during his time that he spend at sydney university. same man....he didn't just change, just for that crisis to create the image that you are talking about. ....he was like that way beforehand, i can assure you. and he didn't write greek history and could never have known or predicted his fate with the dealings that he had and met. he never planned or ever wanted to become greece's financial minister anyhow. it was tsipras who approached him to become his financial minister, with the view and the plan between themselves to never yield or compromise greece's position...no matter what. the plan was never to borrow again to pay off greek debts, something which should have happened 30 years ago anyway. this was the plan which they both agreed and they both went into. he was then betrayed by tsipras because allegedly, tsipras was pressured by the european union and given the ultimatum to get rid of him (varoufakis) or suffer the closure of the greek banks. something the european union (not varoufakis) did anyway to the greek banks and something that varoufakis did not want. varoufakis could never had all this planned beforehand as you say only to act accordingly and create his brand....sorry but your story sounds somewhat delusional.

Money is simply numbers. Numbers on screens and numbers on paper. But humans have been generationally conditioned to think these numbers are so special...and yet there just numbers. For economies to work numbers~ have to continuously flow~ but we've allowed the system to be designed so they Pile up! and this design flaw causes the system to crash. Everything we know about life requires flow: blood, chemistry, oxygen etc. But this is not the way the monetary systems of the world are designed! 1)We allow Banks to create the Publics currency as a Debt 2) We give them the power to Allocate this where they want. 3) we allow them to charge a compounding rental fee(interest) for money they create from thin air! Money begins in Banks and returns to banks, flows in circuits they choose, and money goes to money because interest grows exponentially. This amounts to a bad design. Money must flow like electricity or water we need a system based on life. Look up talks by Richard Werner, Ben Dyson, Bernard Litaer.

Dalibor Bartoš , Germany haw always been making products of excellent quality but the introduction of the Euro helped Germany overcome the re-unification crisis and go on to become the export powerhouse it is today. The reason for that is the Euro itself - it's a currency that, because of the southern Europe countries also adopting it, is quite low in parity compared to what the Deutsche Mark was and would have been today. This makes German products far more competitive than they ever were! It is in the national interest of Germany that the crisis in Europe is kept simmering because this keeps the Euro relatively weak.

Such a shame DiEM didn’t break through last year.
Yanis talks so much sense every time.... 3,788 views ? seriously ? This needs to go viral....
No, not really.
It makes sense to the uninformed and unaware. He is just a populist.. tells nice things with no substance..
@costage
He's a great economist, he knows his stuff, though - he's an ace I'd say.
EU Commission doesn't like J
Yanis 2 much... And has SEVERELY hampered passing on information via latest laws on Tim Berners- Lee opposed Article 11 + 13 of so-,called 'copyrite law' allowing film 2 only b shared by wealthy corps (memes r allowed) so, crucially, a political commentator exposing hypocrisy, via film, of politicians displaying contradictory views 2 yrs apart (usually pre and post power) will have 2 pay a lot, risk fines and/or b unable 2 play such clips. I choose commentators, because of context, judicious choice of clips and, crucially, a decent amount of content surrounding such statements eg a 1 minute clip rarely enough. I don't take any commentators word 4 it either, nor do I have time 2 go through all clips a corporation chooses 2 show on-line...
Yeah true.
If you don’t have a referendum on whether nation state citizens want a federalize Europe then it’s not democracy no matter how you slice up the pie. Are you going to ask them this question first?
None of your business.
Next suggested referendum: on Muslim refugees/migrants. :D
[Come on, after a big economic crisis, it is a tradition to vote for some brown shirts]
Judging by the comments the leftist are against referendums: the most direct form of democracy. Strange times ...
@@galileo_rs You judgement is shit, probably has something to do with your IQ.
@Sean Setting name calling aside - Do you think that such more radical centralisation of the EU would have any chance in referendum?
Hint: there were already moderate ideas like EU constitution which was rejected by voters in both Holland and France. (EDIT: Holland)
Amazing and truthful speech. Now put this in work
@Maria M. For that to work, we need you as a worker too, don't sit on your hands.
Yanis Thank you for speaking the truth! Change is inevitable, fighting against Social dislivell and Poverty, salaries are too LOW! Democracy is collapsing we urgently need a new System to fight It! IN ORDER TO PRESERVE HUMANISATION!
geezus - we need more of Yanis in our politics!!
O I have thought this for along while he is 100% correct I would do exactly as he suggests! Now act people!
I am a right wing Conservative but there are some very good points there.
alright, time to get off TH-cam and get hands dirty like the good old 19th century activists…
That's were you're wrong, this is the 21st Century, Politics are made on the Internet not on the street
@Anagha Shyham. Haven't you heard Yanis, saying we need a transformation? The 19th century style is in sync with the consciousness of that time, in people. We're moving toward a less violent, less destructive way of solving things now.
Let the dead bury the dead and let the living live for the living. Yanis is alive!
Nothing wrong with being a rebel without a cause, but does it pay off, helpful?
this guy is Brilliant more more more
I love this man! An intelligent compassionate leader who cuts through all the mystification of the kleptocrats.
Really? When he was describing my country (Poland) he clearly behaved as either having no clue about our internal political dynamics or disregarded that for rhetorical purposes as it was not matching his agenda at all.
Standardowy Login I grew up in Greece, England and the US and I live in Asia. I have read three of his books and everything he has written and said reflects exactly what I have seen and experienced. But I know very little about Poland.
Standardowy Login As far as I understand, his agenda is a transparent democracy with economic justice. What do you understand?
@@zantecarroll4448 He is using Poland in his narrative of post-crisis nationalist wave sweeping all over Europe because of German imposed austerity. Yup, Law and Justice Party is nationalistic party and is mass producing international PR disasters. The only problem... we neither had serious crisis nor austerity in Poland. Its recent electoral success is result of usual political cycle (we had liberals for prior 8 years) and EU trying to dump us some Muslim refugees/migrants caused some extra outrage among masses.
@@zantecarroll4448 Anyway for me impression was that his agenda is winning election in Greece (or possibly also in other Mediterranean countries too) while effectively promising his voters German money. Which is as good as Trump idea of promising his voters some Mexican money. (both may work perfectly fine in election campaign, but in implementation phase require some scapegoat)
Finally, someone with a broader, clearer vision. Grass roots movement is the way forward.
Best of luck in the May elections Diem25!
Superb as ever.
we live in a Lobbycracy - whoever has over 100 million $ makes the rules
Thank you, Mr. Varoufakis!
Is Yanis the most important voice in Europe right now? Time will tell.

He's a visionary.
Great speaker, great man ,an asset politician and hope for the future.

There's no hope for your kind.
Varoufakis is a genius! I'm a firm believer in the dissolution of the EU, but a new EU designed by Varoufakis is something I'd be very interested in.
Im hard right ...but ....respect for this genius. .

We need Yanis back in Australia - politically we are a nut case.
What’s happening in Australia?
You don’t need Yanis, awesome as he is. You need your community. Help establish a progressive movement at home, chances are there’s already one there you can lend a helping hand with. It’s not easy but even with a good leader they aren’t going to be enough with out the groundwork of local communities and those local communities joining the other communities. I’m sure there’s an Australian leader that can take the role, but the support needs to be there for them to do so and that starts with you. We all need to take these causes upon ourselves, we can’t wait for others to do it for us
@@Sam-_- We have politicians, on both sides of the fence with their heads so far up their arses the don't know what is happening. They are responding to those that support them financially and at their beck and call. Our economy is a giant bubble, ready to burst, we have no clue about what is happening with the environment despite many drought / flood events recently, despite our own agencies warnings. The muppets in Canberra ignore all expert advice - the governments own experts and they treat the populations' concerns with disdain. We are a disaster in the making Sam.
@@markhaus There is a group (that I belong to) called GetUp! who do some good things, but our government supports and in turn is supported by the Murdoch press and they invariably demonise them and we are dumb enough to buy the scare mongering. The polies have tried on several occasions to shut them down. We are a basket case in the making Marcus.
I live in the US, and yes I am slightly aware that Australian politics are similarly twisted like the US’s is, but right now an activist progressive politician Bernie Sanders is running. He’s not just clear the front runner for one of our two parties in the presidential election, but right now it looks like the right wing isn’t going to do very well when the final election happens. If this can be done in the US, one of the most disgustingly corrupt governments in the western world, then it can done in Australia.

Yanis has it all: smarts, charms, and great oratory skills.
this man has a conscience and most importantly, a love and a care for greece. he also happens to know what he is talking about.
furthermore, his dialogue suggests a completely transparent and honest view about greece's situation.
this is a lot more of what many of the other ministers had, who previously governed and destroyed greece, because they themselves were governed by non greek entities and non greek interests...
varoufakis is worth his weight in gold.....for me he is the only man alive today who makes any sense regarding any greek issues and for any greek interests......when he goes to the other world and when finally greece wakes up, they will build a statue of him.
And I mean that, even though I find such views delusional.
i don't agree with you....
he has an ego.... yes
he wears leather jackets and rides a bike....yes.
he can appear and could be ignorant.... yes all that.
....but he was all that, way back then before this crisis,
i remember well during his time that he spend at sydney university.
same man....he didn't just change, just for that crisis
to create the image that you are talking about.
....he was like that way beforehand, i can assure you.
and he didn't write greek history and could never
have known or predicted his fate with the dealings that he had and met.
he never planned or ever wanted to become greece's financial minister anyhow.
it was tsipras who approached him to become his
financial minister, with the view and the plan between themselves to
never yield or compromise greece's position...no matter what.
the plan was never to borrow again to pay off greek debts, something which should have happened 30 years ago anyway.
this was the plan which they both agreed and they both went into.
he was then betrayed by tsipras because allegedly, tsipras was pressured by the european union and given the ultimatum to get rid of him (varoufakis) or suffer the closure of the greek banks. something the european union (not varoufakis) did anyway to the greek banks and something that varoufakis did not want.
varoufakis could never had all this planned beforehand as you say only to act accordingly and create his brand....sorry but your story sounds somewhat delusional.
@@mikelast7918 If your argument is YaNNis was forced to become a minister then I urge him to resign from Greek parliament and go back to what he enjoyed doing (whatever that might be). No one becomes a minister by force. Put a camera in front of his face and he will give the best show. "the plan"... Neither him nor the other moron had any plan. Neither has ever worked for a living. I can have many brilliant ideas if I sit on my ass all day and have nothing to do. If I'm a sociopath I might as well develop a nice facade over time for people to fall for it easier. Especially Greeks who love a bullshitter (for example Andreas Papandreou) who says one thing and does another. This guy thinks he's better than everyone else. In my opinion, he's a douche.
@@bite-my-shinny-metal-ass .... you have missed my point because i never said he was forced into being a minister.
in my argument as you describe it, i said that he was approached by tsipras, not forced by tsipras.
so straight up, you are trying to colour up the conversation, to suit your argument....
the only force was used later and only by the european union upon on him,
from the negotiations that he had with them, to either accept their
ultimatum or close the banks.
....
but thats history and one cant re write it....not even you.
and so papandreou is a bull shitter...?....well he is a politician after all.
perhaps you have perfect flying virgin angels flying over as politicians, where you come from...?
its clear my friend, that you not only know much about greek politics,
but also ignorant about world politics as a whole.
it also sounds as if you have discovered that very rare politician who has never lied and did exactly
what he/she promised.
you are a lucky and special rare breed my friend, you and your truthful political friends who ever they are.
you should buy a lottery ticket.
@@mikelast7918 I don't need a lottery ticket. I work for my own prosperity and that of my extended family. I don't leave things in luck, that's for the rest voters to do. My bullshit radar is quite sensitive and has warned many people I talked to about the disasters of their choices, before they voted for their "saviors". I don't hang out with politicians, nor I befriend them. But, aA
pparently I pinched a nerve there with Papandreou :-) So you might as well be a former Pasok voter who later went along with Syriza and now with Baroufakis? Apparently one with studies and raised up in a upper class family, judging from the tone of your posts. Yes, I still do believe, and I used to even when it was happening, that A. Papandreou was the worst politician ever. But Tsipras now has taken the throne; and it was an easy task for him. I also believe that Baroufakis is highly toxic, regardless if some of his thoughts may make sense to some. He is pure toxic, in my humble opinion, and I am amazed how 30+ percent voted for a complete moron and 3+ percent voted for a non moron but highly toxic person. I guess I will continue having that area of Europe as exclusively recreational and avoid dealing with a big percentage of its inhabitants who ruin it for the rest of us. Tsipras is going to come back in power because he's shit like A. Papandreou. Just a lot worse. So tough luck if you're living there (although most times left rebels with such profile have millions in the bank)
Diem25 is finally getting to the UK. Almost too late though. We have already fallen!
keep up the fight brother

How satisfying to listen to this Mercurial speaker. It gives me hope that there are still wise people who care about everyone.
An extremely simple surefire way of fixing this ailing world economic setup would be to give "money" a limited lifespan of say 5 - 7 years in which it progressively looses all its value... and that would be cereal grains ! Nature provided the perfect setup (Rev. of St. John 6:6 ; a seed crystal) Talk about the genius of such insight... and if this makes sense to you go and 'read' Dr Rudolf Steiner [PhD Phil] for mountains of such wisdom & insight on any subject. rsarchive.org/lectures
@Johannes Bekker. Yes, I see why you share that link with lectures. Yanis and Rudolf Steiner would've enjoyed each other's company much, I believe.
If you put Mercurial in upper-case, then it makes it a noun (someone from Mercury). If you put mercurial in lower case, then it's an adjective (someone who is changeable, adaptable, dynamic, etc).
I've always considered the Euro to be the centre of all problems in the European Union. The only functional alternative being a return to national currencies and internationalism.
Varoufakis has successfully made me think about that question more.
Sure: Another Europe is possible. And I'm sure the germans will love his plan.
The best politician since Perikles!!!

Im 45 seconds in and already I want this guy to lead . and Im in America!
He will do great together with Trump. By all means, take him.
But one thing is correct..we need federal Eu that means UNITED STATES OF EUROPE....and that is the truth...we really need this in orde rto be able to protect the interests of all europeans aganist the interests of the USA, of Russia and also aginst the interests of China....if we do not succeed in this then, European small states will be a cheap lunch for the big predators, USA, RUSSIA and China....so this is the choice...live misserable under the foreign ruler or have our own ruler...European ruler.....
Oh please enough with this crap. There are 160 countries in the world that are out of the EU. Does that mean that they have to obey the USA and China ? International relationships don't work like that. Vietnam has the GDP the size of Romania and decided to ban Glyphosate last month. They were able to do it because they are a self-governing country. Many countries including France wanted to do the exact ame thing but couldn't because they had to obey the EU. The EU IS the problem not the solution.
@@philippegoogle1388 yes they do obey the USA and if they do not...some US air carrier will be sent close to the coast of that specific country....to force the country to obey......Do not also forget about secret task forces thatr can change the regime in a country..USA has done that already many times Just read the documents about MOssadegh 1953 and the involvemnet of CIA..........

I belive you need content to actually make a video. On that topic it would be quite an accomplishment.
Where is he now?!?! Are all the good ones done in Europe?
wasn't he in control of Greece's finances?
He was elected on a mandate to stop irrational bailout policies that were economically idiotic and didn't benefit anyone, including Greece's creditors. He held firm but was betrayed by others in his party and he then resigned. Read up a bit on it. Yanis has been subject to a smear campaign, same as anyone else who dared question the received wisdom from the Eurogroup.
Yanis Varoufakis. It's correct for your ekszakli explaccion .Good politics in Greek Parliament. Vote for Yanis. Diem 25
I like his idealism but the idea that you can reform the undemocratic monolith of the EU is just so naive. You will never stop the project as it stands. It is outlined in the Four President's Report (you can read it online) : Capital Markets Union, then banking union, a manufactured new economic crisis and then fiscal consolidation. Finally, through these 'fixes' EU Law will reign supreme and individual sovereignty will be abolished.
That’s BS

LOL maybe some day you'll be able to afford something from the European Union, then your whole village can celebrate.
This is at least a hope my friend. Hopefully we can achieve something and if not at least we will fail doing something with right and justice, rather than laying down and allowing the current situation to continue to create a large poverty ridden underclass.

Look up talks by Richard Werner, Ben Dyson, Bernard Litaer.
the wealth in the hands of one or in the hands of few existed already 5 000 yeras ago...faraons........so it is not us today........it is the system of evolution of humans and of human groups..........
Why did this message not reach enough Europeans?
Because we live in a totalitarian state that controls the media and the narrative. They have an agenda that they do not want interrupted by people like us.
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is 🙂
But not necessarily. There is no certain science when it comes to modern economic and financial policy, and since monopolists, oligarchs, big banks and financial speculators have not solved the problem it is time to try something different.

I love listening to this man and his very passionate lectures on fixing the capitalist system which is broken poverty is on the rise. Inequality in so many ways. Jobs are harder to find pressure on people no money. Wages are very low in most European countries. People are suffering now as I speak. We have to stop all this bloody rhetoric and getting on with finding solutions now before we end up like the 1930s which was the Americans fault. The whole world suffered for years but president Roosevelt did amazing things in America to help people suffering. A very wonderful president.

, Germany haw always been making products of excellent quality but the introduction of the Euro helped Germany overcome the re-unification crisis and go on to become the export powerhouse it is today.
