    Nick has to know that just because the Lakers signed Gabe at 11M doesn’t mean he was available to the Rockets at 11M or for even Dillon’s 20M. Gabe just competed for a championship like a month ago. A rebuilding situation probably isn’t even an option for him. Rockets and other bad teams have to pay the “loser’s tax” and that’s what it is.

    Rockets gave contracts also to fill cap space so they weren’t under the minimum. All their main players are rookies, they had no money on the books. With who was coming to be vets for their rookies the Rockets did pretty well for trying to compete this year. Even if they don’t make playoffs they should be a genuine step forward by the end of the year. Brooks can’t score but he plays all nba defense, the rockets can cover for his deficiencies and he’s going to be really important to covering there’s. Def makes them a potential watch next year

    • @xavirik4828
      @xavirik4828 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lol, another one of these takes. All they had to do was pay some role players large contracts on short term deals. Now they are tied to 2 guys whose contract value will likely decline and have to have assets attached to trade away in the future. Yeah, super smart thinking!

    • @zachnantz5304
      @zachnantz5304 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      All you have to do is take a look at what the Lakers did with KCP before LeBron came if you are trying to fill cap space. Dillon Brooks getting a 1 year/25M makes a lot more sense than a 4 year/80.

    • @kylekatayama2709
      @kylekatayama2709 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No but for four years is ridiculous. They could’ve easily gave him a 1yr deal at 25 mil in order to get to the league minimum. Why tie themselves to him for 4 years… if he does well then you can give him another 1 or 2 yr deal.

    I think Nick is seriously undervaluing how much Ime could help the Rocksts this coming year. I have nothing bad to say about Stephen Silas as a man because, by all accounts, he's a great human being. But as a head coach he was an awful fit in Houston. He couldn't keep guys accountable, the offense in and of itself was dreadful in its design, and he did bizarre things like admit that he never ran plays for Jabari Smith, their #3 overall selection last year. Not to mention that getting him to run the game through Sengun, arguably their most electric young player, was like pulling teeth.
    If Ime is still the coach he was in Boston and with the pieces they added in the draft and free agency, it is easy to see the Rockets in a position to make the play in tournament next year. Silas was quite seriously that bad and anyone closely following the Rockets would tell you that his departure and Ime's succession as HC is the best thing they did this offseason and they just drafted both guys they wanted at 4 in Amen and Cam.

    • @JohnnytNatural
      @JohnnytNatural ปีที่แล้ว

      Team defense is hard, you have to be developed mentally and physically, those young boys don't have that, it will take at least 3yrs to understand the plays and habits of other players and to correctly move on team defense, heck even LeBron struggles on team defense

    • @Rokz911
      @Rokz911 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as a counter point, I think we are also overvaluing Ime a little bit here. I do agree Silas was a bum and just removing him will help tremendously.

      Also, the Clippers were 0-5 in Russ' first five games, but he was very good; 16.6 points, 8.8 assists, 3.8 total rebounds on 53.2% shooting.
      After the first five, they went 11-5, while Russ averaged 15.6 points, 7.3 assists, 5.2 rebounds on 47.5% shooting, 36.8% from 3s and 3.1 turnovers. Those numbers are excellent as a 3rd option! Kyle Lowry won his championship as a 3rd option with 14.2 points, 8.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds on 41.1% shooting, 34.7% from 3s with 2.8 turnovers.

As far 8:08 as Westbrook goes no one was going to pay him what he may have wanted on a potential championship team. He brings high energy but turns the ball over to much. Can’t shoot. That shrinks the floor significantly. He’s a solid 6th man with that being said

      @vincente4570 I think they may get close to the (play in) next season but not directly in the playoffs.
      I don't think they need to get a star. The Rockets just hasn't established who that player is from the potential already there.
      And this is why they were losing close games and don't have an Identity.
      Sengun has shown flashes of a young Jokic (potential star)
      Jalen Green is explosive and athletic ( potential star)
      Jabari Smith Jr looks like he could be a (potential Defensive Star) that can hit the occasional 3 or midrange
      Kevin Porter Jr is a wildcard that is athletic and can be average or drop 50 on any given night
      And we don't know what Amen Thompson is......the new rookie
      If they choose Sengun as the #1, it could be an inside out game with J Green being the #2.....they could develop a game style like Jokic and Murray....and Jabari would be the Aaron Gordon and Amen Thompson could be the Michael Porter Jr
      If they choose Green as #1, then it would be a different system.
      FVF and Brooks are there to make them more mentally tougher and not young and dumb, eventhough Brooks might come across Dumb with his words sometimes.

    I think the Clippers are a much better fit than Philly. Embiid doesn't pair very well with Harden and Embiid's lack of court-vision and insistence on getting the ball near the 3pt line will limit the Sixers in the playoffs. How many times do people need to watch the Sixers get bounced by the Celtics to figure that out? The Hawks did the same thing with some success too in the infamous 'Ben Simmons Year'. The difference was that Atlanta has to protect Trae Young and lacked the wings and bigs to do so, whereas Boston does (Tatum, Brown, Grant Williams, Timelord, Horford are all long, skilled defenders that can help and make jumpers tough for Embiid).
    Going to the Clippers puts Harden with Kawhi. Say what you want about Kawhi's crazy injury history...all it takes is for the man to be healthy and he's a Finals MVP level player. That's something Philly does not have at all.

      Two issues there, he doesn't make the best decisions. Secondly in the playoff you don't always need to run downhill ay 500 miles per hour. If you watched the Nuggets in the finals they would slow and speed up tempo. When the Heat were on a run they would slowly bring the ball up court. When the Heat didn't get back on transition they could sprint up the court for east fast break points. Late in games the Nuggets clog the lane so Butler couldn't attack the lane, everyone on the team bought in. I don't see that same IQ when i watch Russ play, he isn't someone i see that will adapt as the game goes along.
