- Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - 1988 Winter Games, Ice Dancing, Compulsory Dance No. 3 ("Viennese Waltz") - Marina Klimova and Sergei Ponomarenko of the Soviet Union remained in 2nd Place after this dance.
In my view, Marina was and is the one of the most beautiful ice dancers in the world. But Marina's beauty is unquestioned! Of course, there were Bestemianova, Anisina, Navka and Torvill. But Marina is the ultimate beauty Queen in ice dancing history! Sergei is a lucky man to have such a beautiful life and dance partner!
what lovely lilt and extensions, they make the beat with such ease, it is wonderful to watch and learn.
They medaled at all three Olympics that they competed, started with bronze in 1984, silver in 1988 and finally took gold in 1992. Now their son Anthony is one of the best American ice dancer.
Really beautiful but the circle they make on the ice was kind of small. Their speed and ice coverage kind of went down that year. It was back in full force in 1990 though.
