Oh my god, nothing ever changes. Back in the day Wild World/City Folk players had strict stranger danger etiquette because of this. Because of action replay, players could brick your game very easily just by placing structures or giving you weird items. You had to follow people around and be careful about saving. Stopped being so much of a problems in recent years, not sure what's slowed people down. Man this brings back memories.
I still have a stranger danger policy! Since you can order pretty much anything with HHP, I see no reason to engage with other players and risk this kind of thing. It's not like there's any actual activities to do with other players, lmao
Something similar to this: Don’t pick up wrapped presents from other players, they can hack the presents to make them empty. Once you open them, you have an unusable blank space in your inv

I think it’s a coding issue, I don’t think you can donate in other people’s islands for construction works, so you can’t pay for this specific project too since you were not the one requesting it.

Not gonna lie, this type of thing is why I don't do treasure islands or interact with any other players that I don't know personally. I have 900+ hours and I'm never restarting the game so I can't risk it!!!
Somehow I bugged my animal crossing game so bad, I can't fill up my critterpedia, the fish and bugs are in the museum, I got my golden tools and yet I can't fill it up.
I broke ACNH too! I placed a bug cage, then placed another bug cage on top of it. But, I'm guessing I moved while placing it and it seriously placed the top cage HALFWAY on top of the bottom cage! No freaking clue how. And now, because it glitched like that, it won't let me remove EITHER bug cage! 😳 I have literally tried everything to move it or pick it up and nothing works. So, I've just raised the terrain around it to hide it. It sucks too, it's right in the middle of my island. Other then resetting/restarting my game, I don't think it'll ever go away. Any suggestions anyone has are greatly appreciated! 😊

Occasionally villagers will drop off around 300 bells to the site
Solution: open up your island and wait for that player who gave you the fake bridge to come to fund it

Personally, I don't have bridges on my islands. I island hop on glowing moss-covered bits of land, which adds on to my fantasy theme.
