Wow!! I can't believe how things turn out sometimes in life! Read this: Humphrey Bogart said, that they planed to make the film:
"The Man Who Would Be King" had been a pet project of John Huston's for many years after he had read the book as a child. Huston had planned to make the film since the 1950s, originally with Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart in the roles of Daniel and Peachy. He was unable to get the project off the ground before Bogart died in 1957; Gable followed in 1960.
Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas were then approached to play the leads, followed by Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. In the 1970s, Huston approached Robert Redford and Paul Newman for the roles. Newman advised Huston that British actors should play the roles, and it was he who recommended Connery and Caine. Caine was very keen to appear, especially after he was told that his part had originally been written for Humphrey Bogart, his favorite actor as a young man..!

Lauren Bacall is the antithesis of class, style and grace, even the way she walks and moves, speaks and uses her mannerisms oozes graciousness, intelligence, and genuine charm. And the way she looks at Bogey as he speaks, with total love, adoration, respect and devotion, warmly amused by his humor as they play off each other, is the stuff true love is made of. Bogey, the gruff straight shooter, clearly loved her to his very soul; supportive (“there’s nothing you can’t do” 😫♥️👏🏼), kind, warm and witty, looking at her with total devotion, respect and admiration, it’s obvious their love for each other was incredibly strong. And it’s apparent in this short interview, that they shared a crackling sense of humor, revealing a depth of connection and a compatibility deeper still than on screen. Perhaps Hollywood’s greatest love story, perhaps true soul mates, I never tire of watching them together. Their’s was a rare love, and they shared a white hot attraction for one another that crackled with electricity on the screen, and appears deeper still when you see them in person. I hope they are together even as I write this, somewhere in the great beyond.

Most actors are type casted. But Bogart has played in so many different roles, like the film noirs, then opposite type roles, ex. the African Queen, the Cane Mutiny. Amazing ability. He smoked heavenly all his life and died early of cancer. A great life. A great actor.
