Hi Wah! I never comment on anyone's videos, but I just want to say that I've been really wanting to relearn my canto as it is my first language. But, after attending school I lost it all when I was younger. Watching your series really inspires and motivates me to learn and speak it again. Love this series so much. Hope you, Weylie, doggos, and bun buns are well x
Thanks for sharing, I'm sure you're not the only one. Most second generations outside of HK/China barely speak enough to order at a restaurant, so the fact that you want to get better is a major step! TVB drama/movies are great ways to keep up. Even Canto YT channels!!
Seriously appreciate the thought and care you put into your videos! I love how it shows daily life and without all those fancy edits. Sometimes simple is nice too :)
This video made me feel very nostalgic :') I drifted apart from my canto speaking friends and my current smol friend group doesn't have any canto speakers except me. More of this canto series please! It's very warm and welcoming :')
As someone else mentioned, you're actually supposed to ground the toasted rice. Try doing the recipe with a piece of meat that you'll slice up yourself instead of ground meat! It tastes so much better! Anyway, if you like laab, definitely you'll like Lao food because laab is originally Lao. They have it in Thailand because the northeastern part of Thailand is actually of Lao ethnic. The French gave away that territory of Laos to Thailand back in the early 20th century. Anyway, for Lao recipes, check out Saeng's kitchen!
I don't why I slept through the first 5 minutes of the video, I think the Cantonese was so soothing it knocked me out 😂I am learning so much about the culture and the food in general. I honestly love seeing how different people from different cultures and backgrounds just do their own thing. I am straight up African and seeing this just sooths my heart. I love it.
Sad I didn't see this sooner! I loved this vlog! I would repeat the words in canto out loud that I haven't heard in a while. Thanks for helping me practice 😄
i really need to re-learn my cantonese. even tho i dont understand all the vocab and grammar when someones speaking cantonese it feels like its comfortable in the background i cant explain it
You could take your roasted sticky rice you put in your laab and put it in your mortar and pestle and grind it to a powder before you put it in your laab, that way you get the flavors and it’s a nice texture and not a whole rice grain
I love the feeling of hearing your native language on the internet more! I just wanted to ask what app did you use for translating english to cantonese? I've had a hard time finding some because they're mostly Chinese (mandarin) to english :(
I've been dying to learn how to cook this. It was so helpful to follow along even though I had to read the subs. One thing I really love is how the food not only looks good but is presented in such a way as to elevate the meal. That's one thing I've noticed from yours and Weylie's vlogs. Can I ask...would you mind sharing where the wire basket (where you put the fried fish) is from? As well as the tree stump serving platter you guys used for your thanksgiving hosted dinner? I just placed an order from crate and barrel after watching that vlog :D
hi Wah, maybe next time you can try marinate the fish with salt and tumeric powder. It will taste really good too! and the tumeric powder helps to get rid of the fish smell too. This is how my mum would fry her fish. if you saw this XD
Cantonese and cooking in one video! it was made for me :D What was that app you were using? I had been looking for a cantonese translation app for the longest time
I thoroughly enjoyed your vid thank you so much!! It really reminds me of home speaking canto and I forgot how many words I actually know!! ❤️ keep up the great work!
Laab is originally Lao! ;) I think you should check out Saeng Douangdara's page. There are many other dishes I think you would enjoy and to modify accordingly.
Thai food is my all time favorite!! Wah if you like the sweet andspicy tamarind paste, you should definitely try the Papaya Salad!! That is my all time favorite dish!
I’d pay $1,000 for a dinner night with you and Weylie!!! You be killin’ these food vlogs 😩😋🥰 Keep em up PLEASE!!! I’ll keep dreaming while you keep cooking’ and vibin’ in legit restaurants!!! ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
Have u tried laab with other meat? My mom we make laab with all types of protein, such as: fish, ground pork, ground chicken, shredded rotisserie chicken and my moms favorite, steak or tri tip!
When I lived away from my family for a couple months and didn’t have friends that also spoke my other non-English languages, my skills deteriorated so badly 🙈 It was a struggle when I got back
Hey Wah, what’s the translation app that you used called? I have trouble finding a good app translator that includes “Cantonese” as an option. Thanks 🙂
Wah, can I just say how impressed I am of your Chinese, how did you keep it up? So I came to Canada when I was 5, and I was able to keep my chinese and Mandarin because my parents didn't speak English, but now my two girls does not speak Chinese at all, and it's quite unfortunate so I'm looking for inspiration on how to teach them (they are 3.5 and 7)

Watching this with my one year old, as you're making the laab she said "mmmm" lol!

Hey Wah! What app do you use for translating English into Cantonese with the pronunciation?
You remind me of Harry Shum Jr. For some reason. Maybe it's cause he's also Chino Latino. Nice Cantonese content.
was the app you used for translation Apple translator or a different app? Could u please share TY
You should try using the fried fish and making larb out of it!
Have u tried laab with other meat? My mom we make laab with all types of protein, such as: fish, ground pork, ground chicken, shredded rotisserie chicken and my moms favorite, steak or tri tip!
TRY Lucky 1 Restaurant for dim sum takeout!! it's on Garvey Ave., a couple blocks away from Capital dim sum! Enjoy!
