“Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka-the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny-their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
New and returning cast members were called on to lend their voices to the film:

- Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, a lion prince with a bright future who accepts Mufasa into his family as a brother

“Mufasa: The Lion King,” the new film coming to theaters Dec. 20 explores the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands. Na, him and scar aren’t brothers in this anymore. Scars family was the royal bloodline and scar accepted mufasa into his family as an orphan. So scars family has past kings and mufasa came in and became a king.

@@dereknight861 It's funny how we revere royalty (even metaphorically like JFK's 'Camelot', The King of Pop etc.), so we make characters kings, but we also like rooting for underdogs, so we give them humble origins. (Squire becomes King Arthur etc.) Even though that's almost never how things work.

Money talks. 2D animation of western films doesn't make as much money as 3D animated films today. The only 2D animated films that tends to do extremely well are anime films.

Update: Because people didn’t seem to understand what I was saying, I said “in this universe” for a reason. None of the live action remakes are canon to their animated originals, that’s not how it works. Also, it does seem to make sense if they both made up this part of the story to Kiara to make themselves look cool. We’ll have to wait and see how the movie turns out (not that I’m gonna watch it).
Well Lion King 1.5 was set during the same time as Lion King, just in their perspective instead of Simbas. So it wouldn't go with the origins of Mufasa anyway
There's probably going to be some kind of framing device that takes place after the first movie where they're telling the story like it's a folktale.

I did. Mufasa is my favorite character in the Lion King films next to Simba. I wanted to see more of what could be done with 2019’s Lion King & have liked Jon Favreau’s CGI animal films since his Jungle Book movie.

They have already given an explanation for how he got his scar in The Lion Guard. He was tricked by another lion into an ambush where a snake bit him.
There are so many things they could do in this movie hinting towards event of The Lion Guard, which could open up the posibility for more movies, if people apear to be wanting it.

Yeah there’s no question, they clearly have facial expressions. It’s also being shot a lot more creatively and excitingly, whereas Favreau refused to do anything exciting out of a desire to be like a “nature documentary”.
