  • In this video I restore an old Stanley made bevel gauge that I found lying in a puddle at an estate sale. I payed a dime for it because I saw potential in it. I started off by soaking the metal parts in Evaporust and polished the brass and refinished the wood on the handle. I then sanded down the carriage bolt back down to smooth metal because it was super pitted. I also sanded the actual bevel gauge down to make the sides actually flat on it. Overall I love how the polished steel and brass ended up looking together.

A dime and a few hours of elbow grease and you have turned a piece of junk in to a super tool. Excellent job. Best wishes

From Australia with love. I can’t afford a Jet anything, or a festool sticker. 10 cents on that tool, I could manage 🙏

Thanks for watching! I buy all my tools used and they end up being far cheaper than buying new

Great video ..but you have a lathe ..why didnt you simply mount that bolt in the chuck and work on the head that way . Ive done this exactly same thing in about 2 minutes !

Not a bad idea, but I frayed away from it because my Chuck would mess up the threads on the bolt. And doing it by hand didn't take very long

@@TheRussianWoodworker two nuts on the thread locked onto each other will save the threads . BTW the woid and the brass look so good together .. well worth your time .

Unfortunately Stanley made their own weird thread sizes so if I used any regular nuts it would cross thread the bolt. And yes I agree I really like to look of the two together
