after watching some really heinous riding in my youtube feed, this is a balm for my soul. Your hands and seat are always so calm and steady! You're so patient, yet firm teaching these young horses! I've been applying the techniques you talk about with the horse I'm training and it works great. I'm teaching him english, but some things are universal and he's getting so soft and willing. :) thanks Tim!
Great lesson. Will the walk to lope departures get better as you work through softness and driving from behind or do you have specific exercises for that?
Haven’t checked in for awhile. Training is all about achieving and maintaining balance, and recognizing balance! Once I learned that the symptom (a stiff face) is not the diagnosis. Until you’ve made a correct diagnosis, you can’t make the correction
This is why I love lunging with loose side reins. They consistently pull against resistance and soften perfectly without us having to think about it. So when you get on they are already soft in the bridle. I just love home mindless it is. I struggle with consistency I get bored and space out. Lunging in side reins I can do just that.
This is the best way of describing it that I have ever heard. Wish I had understood this with my English Lessons with my Throughbred.

Softness with speed is a challenge with my younger horse
A common problem - age helps
