Motavec was quietly one of the top pianists in the world for several decades

It's the best interpretation of these pieces I've ever heard.

    Чудо волшебства,которое
    покоряет и очаровывает душу.
    Так поэтично,трепетно и красиво,что душа замирает.
    Спасибо Вам!

MORAVEC!! Always the best renditions, in my mind!

Moravec is definitely taking time at the beginning. I haven't heard it this way before!

Exquisite and elegant playing! I heard Moravec only once in person, in the early 1980s, and was spellbound by his seemingly inexhaustible command of pianistic colours, especially in Chopin and Debussy, which he here applies to Janáček. He makes this music a painting in sound, with a subtle palette of colours worthy of a Monet, Turner or a Sisley!

Heard so many interpretations of In the mists, but Ivan Moravec is definitely the best. When I listened to his 3rd movement, I felt that I could see when Janacek was composing this piece, Moravec made all the intentions of the composer clear, all that Janacek wanted to express, wanted to distroy, all those were hided in the 3rd movement, in the left hands...I love him!

Oh, I remember this Nonesuch lp, one of my favorites. Side 1 had the Sonata 1.X.1905, which I had never before heard, and which I thought was fascinating, the chords and chord changes sometimes putting me in mind of Debussy. Then the gentle mood music of "On an Overgrown Path." Moravec I thought was absolutely convincing in all three pieces. I just couldn't imagine this music being better played. Thanks for reminding me of all this. I'm going to get the lp from the attic (if I can find it!).

Such evocative music (and image) - very sympathetically played.

I’ve always been on the fence about these pieces - maybe too repetitive, or other Janacek pieces just summarize his very unique style better... but they really sound magical here. I’m glad to have listened to this

I agree on the notion 'the summarization of his style is better captured in his other works' but these were the first piano pieces I heard from him! They will always be my favorite!

You can hear ideas that would later be part of Sinfonietta....

Perhaps this music does owe a certain debt to Debussy, but it's far less pronounced than in the libraries upon libraries of piano music written in the early 20th century and onward... Beautiful recording.
