The person who sang "Meriyetay" is Martyrdom Ogba'Gabr and yes he did die in Nakfa during the war for Independence day but I do not know wich year. but the voice you heard it is Tefeno with Tanki.
Tefono (the guy singing this song with Tanki) was killed defending/liberating Eritrea. He went out gun blazing, killing a reported 9 Ethiopian derg soldiers who ambushed him, before a bullet struck him and ended his life for the land he payed for with his blood to help free. R.I.P Tefono, you died for Eritreans everywhere!
