Any change in fuel or transmission type needs a RTO approval.
If they require agency certified parts you have no other choice than to go for iCAT, ARAI, CIRT on your own or use certified manufacturing parts.
Many manufacturers do get them certified these days ready for you.

Ah, what if I wanted to convert a bike that I have used for 20 years to electric, I import all the parts and do it myself, I have to go through all these process to make it street legal?!
Though it’s for one single two wheeler, I don’t think they allow conversions for the same, but we need to upcycle what we have. Scrapping our past for a necessary shift is a total waste of a lot of resources.
I am personally looking into converting a 2 wheeler of mine but I find it illegal in my place.
A simple red card for a green concern, I hope that these laws change with respect to basic necessities.
